~ Zhen’s form of Po’s “Ska-Doosh!” |
Zhen is the deuteragonist of DreamWorks' 47th full-length animated film Kung Fu Panda 4, the fourth installment of the Kung Fu Panda franchise.
She is an anthropomorphic Corsac fox who is a former wanted thief trained under the tutelage of the Chameleon, who tasked her to retrieve the Staff of Wisdom as part of her plan of learning kung-fu. However, her path would lead her on a different journey when she met Po, whose teachings inspired her to do heroism and would take her in as his student and successor.
She is voiced by Awkwafina.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- She is a loyal and caring person.
- She rarely (if ever) shows sadism.
- Most of her bad deeds were done under The Chameleon's orders, and it's very likely the latter would have done something horrible to her if she refused.
- Even though she was pretty mischievous and a thief who often stole the belongings of others and shows enjoyment in stealing, she does subvert this later on in the film.
Kung Fu Panda 4[]
- She forms an alliance with Po and starts to form a genuine friendship with him over the course of the movie.
- She helped Po escape the bull guards.
- While she did give the Staff of Wisdom to The Chameleon, it was most likely out of fear of what the latter would do to her and Po if she refused and not malice, given her facial expression and hesitance when doing so.
- Even so, it was done out of great regret and she made up for it with her role in the Chameleon's defeat.
- She tried to discourage Po from fighting The Chameleon solely because she was worried he wouldn't survive and gave him a tearful hug afterwards.
- She teamed up with Mr. Ping and Li Shan to assist Po in his fight with the Chameleon.
- She convinced the Den of Thieves to rebel against The Chameleon and redeem themselves.
- Using the Staff of Wisdom, she launched a chi-powered strike on The Chameleon, severely weakening her. This would lead to Po landing the finishing blow on the opponent.
- She rightfully refused to stop Tai Lung from taking The Chameleon into the Spirit Realm, disowning the evil lizard.
- After returning to the Valley of Peace, she accepts Po's offer to become the next Dragon Warrior without hesitation.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She has a few arrogant and jerkish moments throughout the film, such as throwing the Dagger of Deng-Wa to Po instead of handing it to him, tauntingly threatening to break the Urn of Whispering Warriors, bragging about her criminal past once they arrive to Juniper City, stealing coins from Granny Borr, sarcastically calling Po a "great and powerful dumpling warrior," and distrusting him when being offered a cookie.
- While there's no indication that she completely subverted this, she doesn't have any other corrupting qualities as during the film, she embraces a better personality, and most (if not all) of her jerky moments happen near the beginning of the film.
- Ultimately, while she plays a crucial role in defeating the Chameleon, she still fails the admirable standards to Po and even Mr. Ping.
- Po claims that he could have defeated the Chameleon himself and just let her do it, with him even saying that he could have escaped the cage anytime but stayed, only for Zhen to stop Chameleon, meaning Po would have likely done it without her help.
- Mr. Ping, on the other hand, is indirectly influential for Po's crucial role in defeating Tai Lung in the first movie and even plays a crucial role in defeating Kai by saving Po, both villains whom are worse than The Chameleon, making her fail the admirable standards.
Trivia[]
- Coincidentally, her adoptive mother and arch-nemesis, The Chameleon, is Near Pure Evil.
- They are also both prevented by issues passing the standards, though Zhen also has a morality-based prevention, unlike The Chameleon.
