Zeus is the overarching protagonist of Disney’s Hercules franchise.
Based on the Greek mythology character of the same name, he is the most important and powerful God in Olympus, reigning over the others. He and his wife, Hera, had a baby named Hercules, but he was kidnapped while still a child by the servants of Zeus's brother, Hades to turn him into a mortal. Despite not being able to reclaim his son to Olympus (at least not until he recovers his status as a God) he helps him throughout the movie in his journey to improve himself and become a "true hero".
In the original film, he was voiced by the late Rip Torn. In the television series, he was voiced by Corey Burton.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- As told by the Muses, he defeated and imprisoned the Titans when they caused chaos and destruction, saving millions of lives, whether their destruction rate was aimed at the whole world or just Greece.
- He is mostly kind with his fellow Gods and made a banquet to celebrate his newborn son.
- He made Pegasus, a little flying horse to be Hercules's best friends.
- Furiously yelled for Hercules when he got missing, and ordered the gods to look for him everywhere, becoming heartbroken when he discovered he wouldn't be able to return to the Olympus due to being a mortal.
- He manifested in a stone statue and clarified his son's doubts and questions, as well as sending him to Philoctetes, who would train him on how to become a hero.
- Was proud of his son's actions as a hero, though he still pointed out he needed to demonstrate more than power deeds to become a hero, which frustrated Hercules.
- He tried to defend Mount Olympus when the Titans attacked.
- He and his son defeated the Titans once he got free, exploding both Rock Titan's heads.
- He respected and allowed his son's decisions to stay at Earth with Megara rather than Olympus, despite wanting to reunite with his son.
- Made a constellation for Hercules, which fulfilled Phil and Hercules's dreams.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He's arrogant and jerkish, as proven when Hades pointed out he had no time for partying with the Gods due to all his work (a fair point despite him being a villain) Zeus turned this point into a notably insensitive death joke to humiliate him and by extension making the other gods laugh at it, thus further fueling his hatred for him as well as his evil plan, although Hades was a bit rude to Zeus and Zeus didn't realize he turned it into a joke until he did he never apologized for humiliating his brother. It's worth to notice that Hades stated that Zeus "charitably bestowed" him the Underworld in first place which was something he detested, this also makes him responsible for Hades' hatred towards him and by extension the rest of the gods in the Olympus.
- He struck Phil with a lightning even though he could have given him a signal of Hercules being his son in order to train him, while Phil was being a jerk there was no need to use brutal force to make him reconsider training Hercules.
Trivia[]
- It is ironic that Zeus is Near Pure Good, as his original counterpart from Greek mythos is anything but, being a short-tempered, unfaithful, arrogant jerk, and a full villain at some particular times.
- He, Tramp and Mufasa are the only parents from the Disney Animated Canon to be NPG. And ironically, their respective sons are Pure Good.
- He and Mufasa are the only Disney Near Pure Goods to have Pure Evil younger brothers.
