Yusuke Urameshi is the main protagonist of the YuYu Hakusho franchise.
He was a juvenile delinquent, looked down upon by the adults for being a bad influence on others, until he sacrificed his life in a heroic action to save a little boy from being ran over by a car. This action, that surprised even the Death Masters, who gave him another chance by reviving him as a Spirit Detective, that now has the duty to defeat demons and other evil spirits in the land of the living.
He is voiced by Nozomu Sasaki in Japanese, and Justin Cook in English.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
Spirit Detective Saga[]
- During the first episode, he saves a little boy from being hit by a car and sacrifices his life in the process.
- As a spirit, he helps Kuwabara study for a test so the latter wouldn't be expelled.
- He saves Keiko from being burned at his old house by throwing his spirit beast egg, even if it destroys his chance of coming back to life.
- After being revived, he helped Kuwabara and his friends fight against a local gang and manages to catch a parasitic demon, thus becoming Spirit Detective.
- Before his first case as Spirit Detective, he discovers that his teacher Mr. Iwamoto stole the belongings of the students and attempted to frame him.
- He defeated Gouki in order to save the spirits of young children that he consumed and retrieved the orb.
- When Kurama attempts to sacrifice himself to save his dying mother, Yusuke decides to help him out of empathy of what it is like to have a mother mourning for her son.
- After defeating Hiei, Yusuke uses a cure to keep Keiko from turning into a demon.
- He saves the world from 3 demons who are attempting to turn all humans into zombies.
- Alongside Botan and Kuwabara, Yusuke saves Yukina from the Toguro Brothers.
Dark Tournament Saga[]
- While he was enraged at trying to kill Toguro, it was because of him murdering Genkai.
- He lectures Toguro to remind him that he is not invulnerable and that he threw the values away in exchange for power.
- He frees the demons who were trapped inside the coliseum after defeating Toguro.
Chapter Black Saga[]
- He feels intense guilt for murdering Sensui, even though it wasn't fully his fault due to Raizen possessing him, and begged him not to use the spirit gun on Sensui.
- He saves the world from Sensui's plan of genocide against humanity.
Three Kings Saga[]
- In order to keep Demon World in harmony, he constructs a democratic fighting tournament, in which the champion gets to be the leader for a period of time.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He's shown to be mischievous or jerkish with his friends sometimes.
- He can be lethal at times during battles, even trying to kill his foes.
- He is often extremely reckless and impulsive, which gets him jumping into conclusions and several dangers without thinking.
Trivia[]
- He and Kazuma Kuwabara are the only Yu Yu Hakusho characters to be Near Pure Good.
- His Japanese voice actor Nozomu Sasaki also voiced Johan Liebert, who is Near Pure Evil.
- Yusuke has several similarities with another anime Near Pure Good, Josuke Higashikata, as they are both pompadoured delinquents who save everyone around them from dangerous threats with their abilities. Not only that, they also share the same kanji in their name (助, suke).
