Yukino Yukinoshita is the deuteragonist of Oregairu. She is a student of Class 2J of Sobu High School and the founding president of the Service Club. She was the only member until Hachiman Hikigaya joined her.

She is voiced by Saori Hayami in Japanese, who also voiced Shinobu Kocho.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • She is an immensely good person who has a very noble, idealistic goal: she formed the Service Club to help people becoming better and more morally upstanding, which kickstarted the events of the series as she would rope in Hachiman into becoming a better person. She genuinely wants to change the world through this.
  • While at the beginning she could be rather cold and unfriendly, this changes with her character development as she genuinely becomes kinder and friendlier. In fact, teacher Shizuka also says that she's a very nice girl deep down.
  • She despises pettiness and mediocrity, she's willing to do her best to help them and make better people out of them.
  • She's genuinely forgiving towards her family despite having been treated as the black sheep, as she always had been living in the shadow of her sister Haruno. She still buys presents for her parents.
  • She is deeply, deeply selfless. She really feels the obligation to help all those she encounters, and states she always helped everyone, even those she barely knew or didn't know at all. She is literally there to help everyone at being better, morally and practically.
  • While she tends to be even brutally honest, she attempts to understand other people and is kind and compassionate.
  • She's better than Hachiman at understanding the emotional side of other people. In contrast to him, who believes that people cannot change, Yukino tries to focus on bettering others rather than having them focus on dragging others down.
  • Overall, she's the realist in the Club, being the most balanced member who understands the emotions of others while also keeping the club's objectives in mind, striking a balance between the logical and goal-oriented Hachiman, and the emotional, people-oriented Yui.
  • When Hachiman is about to play the "bad guy", namely committing social suicide to prevent bad things to happen to others, every time she can she spares him and plays herself the role to save everyone.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • While she genuinely has become kinder and doesn't count as a jerk anymore, she does have some minor arrogant moments: her massive pride prevents her from ever backing down from a challenge or openly admitting her faults, and while she really wants to help others, she doesn't want to be helped by others. It is also the cause of great self-esteem issues when Yukino does not succeed as much as she believes she should.
