Wyborn "Wybie" Lovat is the tritagonist of Laika's first animated stop motion film, Coraline. He is the grandson of the owner of the Pink Palace, a collection of houses in a mansion where the titular protagonist resides.
Despite being a friendly kid, Wybie's lonely, as his grandmother never allows him to get close to the Palace, as kid-kidnappings happened there, once with his grandmother's own sister. After Wybie sneaks out, he meets a girl called Coraline. He later also founds a doll in his house, awfully similar to Coraline, and gives it to her. Only later, they both'd find out the true meaning of the doll and the disappearances.
He was voiced by Robert Bailey Jr..
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While he scared Coraline to death when they first met, it wasn't on purpose and he apologized quickly.
- Despite Coraline being a jerk to him, he was nice and friendly with her trying to befriend her, and acting calmly when she jerkishly refused.
- Warned Coraline that the stick she was holding was poisonous.
- Takes care of The Cat, feeding and playing with him when he appears near his house or when he finds him in the nearby.
- Gives Coraline a doll resembling her from his grandmother's old chst. While this was revealed to be a really bad move, he had no way of knowing it was a spy from the Beldam, and was just trying to be nice.
- When his grandma required, he came and took the doll back.
- Started to believe in Coraline's story when his grandma showed him a photo of her sister, with a doll identical to her, before she disappeared.
- Used his motorbike to save Coraline from the Beldam's hand, which was almost tossing her in the great well.
- Destroyed the Beldam's severed hand with a rock before it attacked Coraline, allowing him and Coraline to toss it into the well along with the key to the Other World.
- Apologized for calling Coraline crazy, and they finally befriended each other.
- Got his grandmother (who can finally rest in peace as no more kids will be kidnapped in the property) to Coraline's garden party.
- Aside from calling Coraline crazy, which was completely understandable in the circumstances, not to mention he apologized, he has no corrupting factors.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He fails the standards to Coraline, who fought the Beldam full-body in order to stop her terror, as well as the fact that she freed three of the Beldam's victims' restless souls.
