Wirt is the main protagonist of Cartoon Network's animated miniseries, Over the Garden Wall.
He is a young teenager who got lost in a mysterious forest known as "The Unknown", along with his half-brother, Greg. As they both venture through the woods, trying to find a way home, they find many supernatural people and situations, some pleasing, some dangerous, as well as growing more as people and going against dangerous entities.
He was voiced by Elijah Wood.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While he is shown to be a bad brother sometimes, disliking his brother just because of his father, even though Greg himself is always nice to him, and even allowing his pessimism to consume the last of his hope in the penultimate episode, leaving Greg to his own luck while he is surrounded by roots, he is shown to warm up to Gregory and save him in the last episode.
- He helps his brother defeat the Dog when it attacks them, mistaking it for the Beast.
- Rescues Beatrice, who was knocked out after seeing the Beast, and fights the Woodsman off, thinking he is responsible for knocking her out.
- Despite initially not liking him, he still protects his brother throughout the Unknown and keeps trying to find a way to get both of them home.
- He is against robbing Quincy Endicott, only agreeing when finding out all they need is two pennies.
- He helps Lorna end her tasks early to free her from Auntie Whispers, who he mistakes for an immoral abuser.
- He frees Lorna from the Evil Spirit by using the Bell to order it to go away.
- Despite giving in to the Beast's presence and losing hope, he gets determined once more when he realizes Greg is gone missing.
- He looks for Greg relentlessly.
- He owes his promise to Beatrice's mother and gives her a hug when he meets with her.
- He tries to help Greg when he is weak and dying and the Aidlewood roots are growing around him.
- He didn't give in to the Beast's temptation and figured out his weakness. He then gave the lantern back to the Woodsman, who reluctantly used the lantern to kill the Beast by making his spirit (in the form of the lantern's flame) die away.
- He got Gregory out of the roots and carried him away.
- He gave Beatrice the scissors of Adelaide to remove the curse on her family.
- Makes amends with Beatrice, forgiving her and bidding farewell as he goes out of the Unknown.
- Saved his brother from drowning once they go back to their world.
- Became a better person by the series' end.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Good?[]
- He is shown to, despite being shy, having numerous jerkish moments, such as despising Jason Funderburker despite him just being a shy and nice guy just because he thinks he likes Sara, the girl he has a crush on, as well as spiting Beatrice many times across the series.
