Waylon Smithers, Sr is a minor posthumous character in The Simpsons. He was the father of Waylon Smithers, Jr. and Mr. Burns' former assistant.
He was voiced by Hank Azaria.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He is shown to love his son, as he brought him to work and gave him to Burns before going into the reactor.
- He sacrifices himself by heading into a nuclear reactor core without a hazmat suit to shut it down in order to prevent it from destroying Springfield.
- He lacks corrupting factors that other characters have from the series, such as being on & off or anti-heroic.
- While he's only a posthumous character and is not as admirable as Homer or Bart, he has lower screen-time than them, allowing him to stand out from them.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He doesn't have much characterization, as he only had less than a minute of screen time, but we do know that he was loyal to Burns and loved his son, so he still has enough characterization for NPG.
- He helps Mr. Burns hand out plushies to convince children to either support or ignore his nuclear power plant, but Smithers, Sr. doesn't seem to take much joy in it and it's the only scheme of Burns we see him participate in, so it's a minor prevention.
Trivia[]
- He's the only Simpsons character to be Near Pure Good as everyone else in the series are either too inconsistent or standard to qualify.
