Since then, War Machine has appeared in many comics and in other media, including in the films comic books set in the Marvel comics and its expanded universe.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • When he was young he often got in trouble and even got beat up more than once whenever he got the "stare" and went straight to where he saw something bad being done in order to stop them.
  • He eventually became a military officer, helicopter pilot, that, during a war, saved Iron Man's life, while he still wore one of his very first armors.
  • Once Jim Rhodes found out about Tony Stark's secret, he became a close friend and confident.
  • He helped him, aided his mission and, alongside other close allies, protected his identity.
  • When Tony Stark got hit with his alcolohism, created to cope with his father's negligence and abuse, Rhodes was the one who took the Iron Man armor during that time, participating in multiple heroic deeds.
  • He served, during this first term, at the West Coast Avengers, defeating many villains.
  • He participared of the first Secret Wars, helping go to another dimension and stopping a Skrull invasion on Earth.
  • He fought many Iron Man villains, most notably the Mandarin, whom he foiled a plot to cause a mass starvation crisis in countries close to China to force them to go to War, hoping to profit from all that and gain power over the region to eventually destroy the United States as well. All while, despite resenting him, worrying about Tony, who is mostly drunk around the gutters.
  • He then saved Tony's, Clyntemnestra's and Morley's lives multiple times as Stane sent multiple supervillains after them. He also stopped a radioactive supervillain from collapsing a nuclear power plant, that would lead to a deathtoll of thousands around a city.
  • Despite becoming more and more possesive of the Iron Man armor, and paranoid Stark wanted to "take it from him", he eventually solves his issues with the help of a mental superhero who got to the root of these problems, and allowed the armor to go back to Stark, who used it to defeat Stane once and for all, stopping him from using his industry to sell more and more superweapons.
  • After Tony's "death" due to a technilogical and nanoscopic disease, Rhodes initially didn't want to be the new Iron Man, but after relaizing how many villains would use suxh a power vaccum to rise, he stepped to the role and was ready to protect the world. While this gig as Iron Man was short, he saved a lot of people from an attack of Iron Man's Rogues Gallery on Stark Enterprises and stopped dangerous japanese robots that were part of a ploy to steal Stark's Industry. He also fired multiple corrupt members of SI during his time in charge. While he was extremely angry when Stark was revealed to be alive, he accepted his idea to stay with the War Machine Armor and helped save the country from Ultimo, saving millions of lives.
  • In his first outings as "War Machine" properly, separate from Stark, he saved a man called Centeayo from a dictatorship in Africa. Centeayo was a worldwide peace advocate politician, and against bureocrats, Rhodes not only went there to save him, but liberated the country from the armed forces dominating it. Centeayo was killed by the mysterious Advisor of the dictator, and War Machin kept several issues trying to get to this man. It was eventually revealed he was a negativity vampire who wanted to plunge the world in a War. Rhodes killed him, stopping his plan for good. He was also defeated a supernatural bounty Hunter named Deathtoll, with a kill count of hundreds, overriding his immortality and killing him, preventing him from harming the UN people who were present, and later came back in time to Steve Roger's time to prevent a time travelling neo-nazi from making so the nazis rule the world.
  • While saving some people during a terrorist attack, he got most of his body blown up. Tony Stark made him a cyborg, and he became the new and bettered War Machine. His new mind interface forced him to see the crimes commited by everyone he sees, making enter a bloodier fase of his superhero career; every enemy soldier, he'd see raped victims, mercilessly killed children and families, tortures, all in videos and images. So he made zero effort to hold back on the especially disgusting ones, leading to quite brutal deaths. He saved a former friend of his to help look for his ex girlfriend and Rhode's childhood friend, Julia, who disappeared. While investigating a military base she was last seen at, once they got to where she was kept, she was superpowered, laser eyes, giga strenght and with a big bloodlust. Multiple other victims were in this same state. This was the Ultimo virus, and if they got close to any person, the nanotechnological disease would spread, leading to an evergrowing army of murderous superhumans. With the unexpected appearance of anti hero Ares, Rhodes and him stopped the infected humans from flooding and destroying a city, with minimal casualities.
  • This whole thing was during the Dark Reign, where Norman Osborn was considered a respectable public figure. Fighting against his corruption and even going to court, Rhodes with a team of his own managed to expose multiple of Osborn's crimes, and infected Osborn's corrupt high table with his condition of seeing the crimes of bad people, making them see nonstop the crimes of those they employed. Overrall, Rhodes contributed heavily to eventually bring down the "trustworthy person" image Osborn, as insanely evil as ever, had built for himself.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • While he usually has a very idealistic and sometimes even Captain America like personality, especially after his character development since the late 90s, he still has too many wrathful and jerkish moments, such as threatening a police officer so he'd enter Tony's hospital room, fighting Tony in the suit when he would not repair his suit to him deeming his actions as War Machine too reckless, and berating his friend before taking him to the space station (considering he was a mercenary, it is at least understandable).
  • He can also be considered lethal to a degree, but that is very minor, as he doesn't like killing, tries to avoid it, and in his most lethality full era, he had that condition about seeing footage of a target's actions, driving him to destroy many particularly disgusting human beings. Once he was no longer a cyborg, this dimished once again. Still lethal and too violent though, from time to time.
