One day, a talented lass or fellow, a special one with face of yellow, will make the Piece of Resistance found from its hiding refuge underground, and with a noble army at the helm, this Master Builder will thwart the Kragle and save the realm, and be the greatest, most interesting, most important person of all times. All this is true because it rhymes.
~ The Prophecy by Vitruvius.

Vitruvius is the overarching protagonist of The Lego Movie and a cameo character in the sequel. He is the leader of the master builders and the mentor of Emmet, while also being the former mentor of Wyldstyle.

Originally a protector of the Kragle, he was blinded by Lord Business’s laser pointer and soon came up with the Prophecy of the person who would defeat Lord Business. Soon he would become an ally to Emmet in he first movie and helped him learn how to become a Master Builder and guided him throughout the movie before being decapitated by Lord Business.

Once he dies, he becomes a ghost and soon helps influence Emmet into saving the world and all the Master Builders before flying off and admitting he liked Emmet before he was cool.

He is voiced by Morgan Freeman.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • Prior to the events of the films, he taught Wyldstyle how to become a Master Builder.
  • When Lord Business began breaking into the room storing the Kragle, he attempted to hold him off from getting it before eventually getting blinded when his robots shot him in the eye with a laser pointer.
  • Came up with the idea of the prophecy of the Special.
  • Unlike Wyldstyle, who had doubted whether Emmet was truly the special, Vitruvius was very faithful in him and refused to give up believing in him despite’s Emmet’s complete lack of creativity and imagination at the time, even stating that he believed with good training and enough self confidence, Emmet could eventually become a Master Builder.
  • Helped gather the Master Builders together at cloud Cuckoo land to help form a team for Emmet, leading to some of them like Batman, Benny, and Unikitty sticking with him.
  • Helped the group construct a the submarine so they could get away from the police.
  • While constructing the submarine with the group, he helped encourage Emmet to try and do his own thing rather than focus on what the others were doing, leading to him starting off as a Master Builder and becoming more of a leader.
  • As Emmet was feeling down about not actually being the special, he returned to him as a ghost and and explained to him what the Prophecy truly was: that anyone who found the piece could potentially become the Special and just needed to believe they were special in order to truly be it. Upon revealing this, he brought up all the things he did in his attempts to save the world when he believed he was special before later encouraging him to continue believing in himself in order to stop Lord Business.
    • This would later influence Emmet into sacrificing himself in order to save the Master Builders (including his friends) from death, thus allowing Vitruvius to stand out.
  • As Emmet was being guided and led by back to his hometown by Finn through the portal, he notices a cat poster which then reminds him of Vitruvius’s mantra of believing in one’s self, thus influencing him posthumously to save Bricksburg and the entire world from being Kragled.
  • Although initially somewhat dismissive of Emmet at first, even at one point calling his ideas and instincts “terrible” while they were being chased by Bad Cop, he was still the nicest to Emmet compared to the others, even admitting at the end of the movie that he liked Emmet before he was cool.
    • Additionally, while he did lie about the Prophecy, it was for good reasons.
    • Overall, by the end of film, he basically subverted all of his corrupting qualities.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Fails the admirable standards to both Emmet and Wyldstyle, the former of whom had less resources than him due to not being a Master Builder at the time yet still managed to do something admirable by choosing to sacrifice himself in order to save multiple Master Builders from dying as well as later defeating Rex Dangervest, and the latter who had similar resources, yet encouraged everyone around the world to rise up against Lord Business and fight back against him and later Rex. Though considering his influence on Emmet and how he helped him become a master builder by encouraging him to believe in himself in order to save the world, he still technically passes the admirable standards.

Trivia[]

  • He and Wyldstyle are the only heroes from The Lego Movie to be Near Pure Good.
