~ Garfield to Odie about Vic. |
Victor Sr., also known as Vic, is the deuteragonist of the 2024 animated feature film The Garfield Movie, a film adaptation of the comic strip "Garfield" created by Jim Davis.
He is the father of the titular character.
He is voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, who also voices Frozone in Pixar's Incredibles franchise.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He, despite his living conditions as a street cat, tried to be the best father he could to Garfield. He went everywhere he could to try to feed his kitten, even though he failed repeatedly.
- Even if he was a thief trying to steal food from people, this is not a prevention, since as a street cat this was the only possible way for him to survive, so it is justifiable.
- Besides, in the end, he leaves this life behind anyway.
- While at the beginning of the film, Garfield's memory made it seem like Vic abandoned him, later on it is shown that this was not the case. He was on his way to get food for his son and ended up being delayed by something that was completely beyond his control, and he did not expect his son to leave where he left him. He waited for what was probably hours, even in the rain, just to get a measly fish for his son, but after seeing him with Jon and realizing that Garfield would be happier with Jon than he would be with Vic, he sadly leaves his son so that he can have the life he could never give him.
- He even tried to visit Garfield at Jon's house, in his own words, "a million times", but he didn't have the courage because he thought Garfield would be much happier without him. Yet he still saw him from a tree every day, watching his son grow up.
- When Jinx was alone on the street after losing her life of luxury, Vic reached out to her and brought her into his gang.
- Even though he was unable to save Jinx from being caught by the dogfight, the flashback shows that he tried to save her and, in his words, tried to save her (although he apparently failed miserably). In short, it was out of his control.
- While his former gang mates claim how he is "untrustworthy" and that he leaves in the middle of the job, it was to see if Garfield was okay, so it was understandable. Even Garfield himself gets a little emotional hearing this.
- One night, he discovers that Garfield and Odie were kidnapped by Roland and Nolan, who take them to an abandoned mall as hostages. He puts a black hoodie on him to disguise himself and rescues Garfield and Odie.
- While he, Garfield, and Oddie did try to steal milk from an farm it was only because Jinx blackmailed them with their lives if they didn't.
- Besides this action is subverted when Jinx was handed over to the farm's animal control unit for her actions anyways with his role helping with he downfall anyways.
- He even tried to convince Garfield not to talk to Otto, but only because he thought Otto needed some time alone.
- He shows compassion for Otto upon hearing his story and tries to find another way into the farm so as not to disturb him before Otto decides to help them.
- When he, Garfield and Oddie are cornered by the dogfighter, he hands them over, but he only did so, as analysed by Garfield later, because he knew that, as they were domestic animals, they would be rescued by Jon, and besides, he decided that he was the only one who should suffer at the hands of Jinx.
- He is horrified when he discovers that Garfield came to save him from Jinx, not out of ingratitude, but because he didn't want to see his son in danger.
- He saves Garfield in the train battle and helps him.
- When it seems like they are both going to die, he thanks his son for the chance he gave him in a solemn moment.
- At the end of the film, he accepts his son's offer to live with him, Oddie and Jon, lefting behind his life as a thief, and it is shown that they are getting along very well.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Like his son, he can be somewhat slack, lazy, glutton and rude, as when he fought with Garfield in the tree scene by punching him through the vines, in addition to, together with Garfield, raiding the refrigerator and buying food and items using Jon's money.
- While his thefts are justified since he is trying to survive, and he leaves that life behind in the end, his thrill-seeking nature makes him somewhat reckless, as when he was able to prioritize jumping on a train during his adventure with Garfield, as he decided on a perfect spot to jump on a train from quicker than the latter.
Trivia[]
- Until now, he and Garfield are the only dad-son duo on the Near Pure Good Wiki, as well as the only Garfield Near Pure Goods so far.
- Since a sequel is confirmed, his NPG status could be challenged, if he shows more of his usual corruptions, or not.
