Injuries don’t discriminate between Cogs and Barons.
~ Veil

Veil is a major protagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.

She is one of the only doctors left in the Badlands, treating the sick and crafting prosthetic limbs. She has been Sunny's lover for many years, despite Clippers being forbidden from forming long-term relationships or families. After Sunny ends up getting Veil pregnant, the two of them begin looking for a way to escape the Badlands so that they may raise their son Henry in safety.

He was portrayed by Madeleine Mantock.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • She is a doctor for those who are sick and injured in the Badlands, tending to their ailments while also creating mechanical limbs known as "mimics" for people who have lost their limbs.
  • She sees Sunny repeatedly despite his violent past and even helps him to redeem himself, Sunny even admits that she showed him that a family was all he ever really wanted.
  • After learning that she is pregnant, she asks Sunny to help them escape the Badlands so they can raise their son somewhere safe and prevent him from either being killed or being raised as a killer just like Sunny.
  • Following Baron Quinn's murder of her parents, she is brought in to treat Quinn due to his brain tumor causing his health to decline. Despite having a chance to poison him and get revenge for her family, she ultimately doesn't go through with it due to her oath to never harm a patient. Similarly, she later saves Quinn's life despite how much he has hurt her due to her responsibility to help those who are injured.
  • She saves Ryder, Quinn's son, after being tasked with it by the Baron's family despite her facing prejudice from them due to her being a Cog.
  • She is very kind to M.K., Sunny's apprentice, helping him to translate a book since he could not read and offering him food.
  • When she is kidnapped by the Widow's forces in order to help treat the Widow's injuries following a battle with Sunny. Veil saves the Widow's life despite them abducting her, and despite recognizing how dangerous the Widow can be she doesn't poison her even though she easily could. Instead, she gives the poison to the Widow's adoptive daughter Tilda and lets her make the choice as to whether to kill the Widow, as Tilda had been growing increasingly disillusioned from the Widow's cause, but she ultimately decides against poisoning her.
  • She attempts to treat Quinn's brain tumor despite knowing it is a lost cause. Once it becomes clear that Quinn has lost him mind due to his tumor, she stops treating him altogether but lets him think that she is, that way he will eventually die and both her and Henry will be safe from his insanity.
  • After Quinn develops a sick obsession with her and Henry, he tells her that she can have whatever she wants, and the first thing she asks for is a sun room for her and Henry so that he can exposed to sunlight rather than being stuck in Quinn's underground bunker.
  • She treats Quinn's Clippers during his insane conquest for the Badlands, such as a kind Clipper named Edgar who guards her.
  • When Quinn and the rest of his Clippers leave the bunker to attack the Conclave, Edgar is the only one left to guard her, and she drugs him rather than killing him in order to escape. When he wakes up, he goes crazy and attacks her, at which point she kills him out of self-defense in order to try and escape with Henry.
  • Sunny eventually comes to save her, at which point Quinn holds a Sai to her throat and says that Sunny can either hand over Henry and have Veil or keep Henry, but that he cannot have both. Veil then stabs the blade through her own neck, killing herself but also killing Quinn, ensuring Henry's safety. In her final moments, she tells Sunny to teach Henry to be good, so that he won't become a trained killer in the same way Sunny once did.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • During her treatment of the Widow she has a sadistic moment, the Widow insults Veil for being in a relationship with Sunny, at which point Veil presses on the Widow's injuries to cause her pain and angrily states "do you want my help?" in order to make the Widow stop complaining.
  • While her killing Edgar was justified since he went crazy and attacked her therefore making it self-defense, another Clipper named Declan captures Veil and questions her on what happened to Edgar. She lies and claims that Edgar tries to rape her, which enrages Declan since Edgar was actually gay, meaning there is no way he did that. Declan calls her out on accusing a dead man of being a rapist, and there was no reason to insult his good name in that way.

Trivia[]

  • Veil is the only Near Pure Good hero from Into the Badlands to not also be a Love Exalted character. This is due to her having many stupid mistakes throughout the series, and while these moments don't serve as Pure Good preventions, they do decrease the likability of her character.
