Varian is a major character in Tangled the Series/Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. He is the main antagonist of the 1st season , a mentioned/cameo character form the second season and a major character in the third and final season.
He is a prodigious alchemist from the little village of Old Corona, who despite having his inventions being seen as not useful or even dangerous by the villages people, especially his father. Once he meets Rapunzel, princess of Corona, he helps her undercover the mystery of her hair and why has it grown again, as its magical properties were removed when it was cut several weeks ago. Over the course of their investigation across the series, indestructible black rocks start causing problems at the kingdom and at Old Corona, and when Varian tries to solve, he accidentally traps his own father in an unbreakable amber. When help was refused from Rapunzel, who had way too many problems at the time, as the lives of the entire country were in risk, he becomes a bitter villain who wants to force Rapunzel to free his father and get revenge on Corona afterwards.
After being defeated, and absent from the second season, he is freed and teams up with the Separatists of Saporia, terrorists with old hate towards Corona. He plans to wipe out everybody's memories from what happened and his villainy, so that he could then be friends with everybody again. But after he was betrayed by the Separatists and imprisoned with Rapunzel, she convinces him to make people his friends again the right way, proving he's remorseful and making up for it. He helps defeat the Separatists and save Corona and has a bigger role for the rest of the series, where he tries to undercover the mysteries of Demanitus's Scroll, the Moonstone and the Sundrop, as well as trying to prove he is redeemed to the population.
He was voiced by Jeremy Jordan.
His Good Ranking[]
In General[]
- While he was a fallen hero in season 1 and the start of season three, after his redemption, he had a lot of focus in his growth, how he didn't want to be remembered for what he did, wanting to redeem himself and make up for his misdeeds, to the point his biggest fear shown by the Red Stones, is never being forgiven by Rapunzel or Corona.
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He always tries to help his village with his inventions.
- He created a system to bring hot water to all of Old Corona.
- He helped Princess Rapunzel and her friends try to discover what made her hair become magical again.
- He showed Cassandra and Rapunzel the Black Rocks in the village when they asked about them.
- He helped Cassandra in all of her duties as a handmaiden to impress her father so she could help him with the Science Fair.
- Even when she didn't help him, he held no grudges and even honored his new element with her name: Cassandrium.
- He saved the whole science fair and the people in it from his invention's black hole like effects.
- He was horrified when his father lied about the Black Rock problems to the King and made Rapunzel promises she'd help him saved his village.
- He tried to dissolve the Black Rocks with an alchemical solution, though it led to an ever-growing crystal appearing, that consumed his father.
- He rushed to the kingdom to ask Rapunzel for help, horrified when she said she couldn't help his father, due to all the people in danger of the blizzard.
- He felt remorse for what he did in season three, and wanted to erase everybody's memories so they could be friends again.
- He gave up his plan when he discovered the separatists of Saporia's true intentions of destroying Corona and betrayed them.
- He tried to explode the Zepellin where the explosives were to save Corona, even though he could probably die, though Rapunzel did it and threw him off the ship.
- Though he wanted to be seen as good by the population again, he didn't blame them, saying they had the right to be angry after everything he did.
- When Red rocks that caused everybody's fears to torment them and turned them in stone started taking over the kingdom, he and Rapunzel worked together to stop it, with him saving the whole kingdom by overcoming his fears of never being able to redeem himself and doping the alchemical solution to destroy the stones.

- He tried to redeem Cassandra, using his own experiences as a villain driven by hate and revenge to try to make her see that the path was the wrong one.
- He created a weapon to cover the Black Rocks with crystals to try to defeat Cassandra.
- He guided the group to Demanitu's old lair, where they hoped to find something useful to defeat Cassandra and Zhan Tiri.
- While he didn't want to believe his father could be brainwashed by Cassandra's Moonstone due to being part of the old Brotherhood of the Moonstone, even scolding Eugene for thinking of that, he put a shocking device in his helmet that knocked him out when he was brainwashed.
- He tried to have all of the resistance back from Zhan Tiri's dimension after they got stuck in there.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He has some mischievous or jerk moments, lying that the balloon will explode just to scare Eugene and mess with him.
- Is kind of arrogant about his alchemy capabilities.
- Is a control freak over his inventions, not wanting anybody to touch them, though this is understandable since they're usually very delicate and cause a lot of trouble if misused.
Trivia[]
- He was once considered IA for being a fallen hero and having too many preventions. Upon a reevaluation, however, it was decided being fallen could no longer be a prevention as long as he was redeemed and became incorruptible again, as well as not having many corrupting factors outside of that, granting him a position as NPG.
- He is the only Tangled NPG not to come from the movie, as both Eugene Fitzherbert and Pascal originate from the first movie.
