Near Pure Good Hero Wiki

Hello. Today will be my next offer for the status of NPG, and it is dedicated to Raiden and Liu Kang, or rather, their versions from the cartoons of the MK: Legends series.

What's the Work?

Mortal Kombat Legends is a series of cartoons based on the famous video game series of the same name.

Who are they?

  • Raiden is one of the main characters in the Mortal Kombat Legends cartoon series. He is the god of thunder and the protector of the Earthly Kingdom.
  • Liu Kang is one of the main characters in the Mortal Kombat Legends cartoon series. He is a Shaolin monk who takes part in a tournament called "Mortal Kombat" to save his world from destruction, the Earth, whose fighters have lost nine tournaments in a row.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?

  • He saved baby Liu Kang from the Tarkatans when they killed his parents.
  • He gave the demoness Ashra a chance to show her best side in order to become human.
  • He gathered three fighters for the Mortal Kombat tournament, namely Liu Kang, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, so that they would win this tournament and save the Earthly kingdom from conquest.
  • Although at first he decided not to tell Johnny Cage that the tournament was not staged, he did it only so that Johnny Cage would be able to realize everything and overcome it.
  • He asked Scorpio not to give the amulet to Quan Chi.
  • Despite the fact that he is not allowed to interfere in the tournament, he still intervened in the fight between Goro and Jax, and saved the latter by stopping his bleeding from severed arms.
  • Although he stopped Liu Kang from rescuing the Scorpion, he did so only because he knew that the Scorpion would not die so easily, and that he had to complete his revenge by killing Quan Chi.
  • When Liu Kang was upset that he could not defeat Goro, Raiden comforted him, saying that his true purpose was to defeat Shao Kahn.
  • He agreed to participate in the next tournament, even though he would lose his abilities and become an ordinary person.
  • Even in his mortal form, he bravely fought his opponents, including Shao Kahn himself, although he eventually lost.
  • When he was dying, he inspired Liu Kang to defeat Shao Kahn, which happened later.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?

  • He is lethal in combat, and kills his enemies in rather brutal ways. However, considering that almost all of his victims deserve it, being mostly incorrigible monsters, this is minor prevention.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?

  • Together with Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage, he went to the Mortal Kombat tournament to protect the Earthly kingdom.
  • He did not aggressively fight Kitana because he believed that she could become kind.
  • He fought the Black Dragon mercenaries, thus saving himself and his allies from them.
  • He fought bravely against Goro, even though he lost to him in the end.
  • He was about to rescue the Scorpion from the burning temple, but Raiden stopped him.
  • He was upset that he had failed Raiden and had not defeated Goro, but Raiden comforted him.
  • He and other warriors participated in a new tournament to save the Earthly kingdom again.
  • He defeated many opponents in the new tournament.
  • He defeated Shang Tsung, and also refused to finish him off, showing his honor and mercy.
  • He was very saddened by the death of Kung Lao and Raiden, and set himself the task of avenging them.
  • He defeated Shao Kahn, thus preventing his plan to take over the Earthly kingdom.
  • He defeated Shinnok, thus preventing his plan to destroy all the worlds.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?

  • He is lethal in combat and kills his enemies in rather brutal ways. However, considering that almost all of his victims deserve it, being mostly incorrigible monsters or ruthless mercenaries, this is minor prevention.

Verdict

I'll say a yes to both. I think this version of Raiden has a lot less corrupting qualities than the original one, so he's fine too.
