What’s the work?

Sonic the Comic Online! is an “unofficially official” continuation of Sonic the Comic…Basically, it’s a fan work with a high enough level of Approval of God to be allowed on this wiki…for now, at least. Like the original comic, it’s about Sonic and Freedom Fighters defending Mobius against Dr. Robotnik and other threats, but there’s also a long-arse arc about Sonic becoming a fugitive due to a combination of slander and a frame-up which takes up most of the comic, which many fans weren’t happy with, and it’s currently on a hiatus, as if the issues didn’t take long enough to be published in the first place…But whatever, that’s not what you came for, did you?

Who is Silver?

Silver was born in a world that was nothing but fire and rock, thanks to a monster only known to him as Iblis having ravaged the planet for 70 years. He grew up reading the stories about Mobius’ greatest hero, Tails, and eventually became a hero in his own right by protecting other inhabitants of Mobius from Iblis’ wrath. Eventually, G.U.N. sent Silver on a risky mission into the past, to find Iblis in its weaker form and destroy it. Before entering the portal, however, Silver was treated to the pretty sight of his allies perishing in the flames of disaster…

Arriving into the past, Silver began his search for Iblis. Shortly after stopping a Mega Mack-filled missile from poisoning the Emerald Hill Zone, he met the superhero team Ultimax (never heard of ‘em) and the man, the legend himself: MILES “TAILS” PROWER. After coming to their base, he told them about the Iblis, and all that he knew about Tails’ adventures, only for the fox to claim that all these achievements were misattributed to him, as the real hero was a certain “Sonic”, who also turned into Iblis, or “Super Sonic”, in times of stress. Learning that Sonic was considered a fugitive, Silver believed that this “hero” he never heard of had gone  bad somewhere down the line, and decided to kill two birds with two stones by destroying him.

Having found Sonic, he fought him and was that close to delivering the final blow, but before he could, Totem Billy of the Death-Trap hunters appeared and told Silver that he didn’t have it in him to actually kill the hedgehog. The Death-Trap then napped Sonic and delivered him to Dexter Bagstille, who unleashed Super Sonic to be used as a weapon against Robotnik, only to lose control over him, kick-starting the very disaster Silver sought to prevent.

Fret not, though, as Silver was ready to fix his mistake. Knowing where Super would strike first, he made sure Emerald Hill got evacuated, and stopped the evil being from killing Tails. He and other heroes kept fighting Super Sonic until Tails lured him into a trap with Fake Emeralds and had his Chaos Energy drained.

The apocalypse was averted, but the timeline Silver came from was erased as a result, and he began fading away as well. Thankfully, Femni-Viewer saved him by transporting the Miracle Planet to the present and letting the hedgehog preserve himself with its Time Stones. After that, Silver, now stuck in the past for apparently forever, continued to fight crime and invaders for the remainder of the war against Robotnik and Drakon Empire. Apparently, there are great things for him and Blaze in store…

Admirable standards

Sonic the Comic continuity is no stranger to global and cosmic protection: Sonic saved all life on Mobius, Earth and even the entire universe many times, Knuckles stopped Zachary from dropping the Floating Island on Mobius and destroying all life on it, Amy saved the universe by stopping the Time Waster from destroying time, Shortfuse saved Mobius by foiling Robotnik's plan to suck out its life essense, Ebony stopped Blaze the Cat's flames from causing worldwide damage... As for Silver, his interference with Super Sonic’s initial attack was crucial in directing Tails and other heroes to the Emerald Hill Zone, so that they would go on to defeat the beast and not let him hunt down Mobians for seven decades onwards, saving them from cruel and unusual death. One way or another, it’s confirmed that only his presence allowed them to win, as in the original timeline they failed, so even with competition, Silver passes. He could, in theory, fail to Amy, but she only stopped the Time Waster with Ring of Eternity's assistance, as only it could transport her into the time spirits' dimension.

Corrupting factors?

So, gang, who is the right one here?

Let’s start with lethality. Even after learning that Sonic wasn’t the same person as Iblis, Silver intended to kill him to prevent him from becoming it, though he states that he take no pleasure in doing the deed. This is where it becomes interesting – when he is about to finish Sonic off, Totem Billy claims that he won’t do it because he is “no killer”. His words, not Silver’s. So what’s the case? Did Totem Billy use his mystic powers Nigel Kitching claims he has to read Silver’s mind, or his deduction, and draw conclusions from that, or was he manipulating the hedgehog to steal Sonic? I don’t remember mind reading being one of Billy’s powers, so probably not the first option, but either way, even though Silver resolves to fix his mistake, he never apologizes for attempting to kill an innocent person, to Sonic or anyone else. In fact, one story shows that back when Blaze told him about how Sonic died saving people in the bad future she comes from, he didn’t call off his mission, so regardless of whether Silver backed off from killing him or not, I believe he hasn’t subverted that one.

There are some bits of Silver being somewhat of a nightmare fetishist, like suggesting that Amy’s story about Tails ends with him dying to let others live for a few more days, or rejoicing at Shadow II’s declaration that they’ll grow old and moldy and wrinkly, but I don’t find that truly corrupting, as he doesn’t mean to offend anyone. His response to Blaze’s comment about how different he is from others  (“Speak for yourself, stranger”) might be a bit brash, though, but you be the jury.

Verdict?

Certain yes.
