Violeta "Violet" Rodriguez, also known as Ultra Violet, is the titular protagonist of the short-lived Disney series, Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion. She's a teenage girl who was chosen to become the owner of a purple luchador mask, which grants her the power of super-speed, which she'd use to become a superheroine.
She was portrayed by Scarlett Estevez.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While she's prone to having typical sibling squabbles with her older brother Tiago, and occasionally gets envious over him being so talented and skilled at nearly everything, it's made clear that Violet still cares about and loves Tiago, and respects him and his many talents. She's even supported him several times.
- While she initially used her new powers from the purple luchador mask to get famous on social media -- and once planned on unmasking herself at a certain point to get recognized by the mass public -- she changed her mind and decided not to go through with the unmasking after Black Scorpion pointed out how doing so would mean she was doing heroics for attention rather than genuine altruism.
- It should also be noted that Black Scorpion stated he wouldn't stop her from revealing herself, meaning she could have easily unmasked herself on her livestream when Black Scorpion wasn't looking. And yet in spite of this, she willingly passed off the opportunity, for a chance to be a real hero.
- Even after she temporarily quits being Ultra Violet, she still tries to help a worried mother find her missing daughter who wandered off. Then after getting her mask back and becoming Ultra Violet again, she uses her super-speed to find the daughter and pulls her out of the road seconds before a speeding car passes by, saving the girl's life. This is also a major turning point for (Ultra) Violet, as she stops caring about getting likes and followers through her livestreams, and started working towards becoming a more genuine and altruistic hero.
- Several episodes have Violet show concern for Cruz's well-being, considering he barely hangs out with his family, and is constantly alone, and makes excuses for it.
- When Black Scorpion gets cornered and over-powered by a group of imposter luchadores, (Ultra) Violet would show up to aid him in the fight.
- She aids Black Scorpion in taking down Miradora by setting off a bunch of sprinklers while the latter's impaled by her electric bolt, shocking her unconscious. Plus, Ultra Violet would instantly show concern asking if she was okay.
- She uses her super speed to steal all the tech weapons from Los Chapos Guapos, allowing her and the other heroes to fight the criminals with an edge.
- While Violet initially enjoys reading about the school gossip from the mysterious El Pajarito, she realizes just how much damage it was doing to the students' personal lives when she and her friends become the latest victims, and investigates to find out who the mystery blogger was.
- Then when she learns Luis Leon was the mystery blogger, she forces him to take down the blog (as Ultra Violet) and stop embarrassing other students. But she never tells anyone that he was the mystery blogger.
- She and Black Scorpion prevented a purse snatcher from stealing a woman's valuables in her purse.
- After learning about Cruz used to have a girlfriend before she broke up with him and got engaged to someone else, she tries to help Cruz find a woman to set Cruz up with.
- She became more practical with her channel as she'd turn it into a crime hotline and have her followers track down criminals so she and Black Scorpion could catch them.
- While she does have Luis' photo of an unmasked Ultra Violet erased to prevent him from exposing her identity and thus indirectly damages his creditability as a newspaper journalist, it's clear Violet didn't intend for Luis to have his creditability damaged and even feels bad for him. It's due to this -- and especially since she had spent some time with Luis and learned how lonely and insincere he was -- that she agrees to a private interview with Luis.
- She uses her Ultra Violet persona to make a public appearance and help out her friend Maya for a charity event, even though it meant going against Black Scorpion.
- She knocks out a criminal who attempted to steal from a nursing home.
- After learning that Catalina Rivera was Cascada, she's conflicted over whether or not to tell Cruz/Black Scorpion what she discovered or leave him in the dark for his own good (Cruz loves and is in a relationship with Catalina, but he hates Cascada for being a rebel and not following standard rules and laws). Eventually, she settles on telling Cruz the truth about Cascada.
- She immediately warns Black Scorpion about how he was caught on camera stealing an ultrasonic emitter, much to the latter's confusion due to him not remembering doing so. Then when she later learns Hypnotico brainwashed him into doing so, and was using him in a heist, she worries greatly for her uncle/godfather's safety.
- While fighting a brainwashed Black Scorpion, she tries to reason with him and bring him to his senses, by encouraging him to fight Hypnotico's brainwashing. She also never tries to explicitly harm him.
- She refuses to leave Black Scorpion behind, even when Cascada tells her to get out of there. She's able to hold him back by unmasking herself and reminding him that he was her godfather, which allows Black Scorpion to fight the brainwashing, snap back into himself, stop Hypnotico and save the city from being brainwashed.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She can often be too impatient, impulsive or overconfident, which tends to prevent her from taking her crime-fighting seriously, and often causes her to mess up. However, this is a minor prevention.
- This even tends to happen when she's in civilian mode, as "Ultra Violet, Matchmaker" has her go a bit too far with trying to set Cruz up on a date, and almost pushing Catalina (who was actually into him) away from him, because of this.
Trivia[]
- She's the only Near Pure Good from a Disney live-action series to actually be created by Disney, rather than acquired by the company like all the other approved characters.
- If the series ever returns in some manner to continue its unresolved storyline, it's possible that Ultra Violet might become a full Pure Good.
