Tara Carpenter is a major character in the Scream franchise.
She is the half-sister of Samantha Carmpenter, who is the biological daughter of Billy Loomis, the first Ghostface. She is also the Legacy Killings first target, being attacked in her house after answering the phone call. She survives though, unlike the first victim of the rest of the movies and is internated. She later plays a big role in stopping Ghostface, actually her best friend Amber Freeman and her boyfriend Richie Kirsch, alongside both legacy survivors and new characters.
She returns in Scream VI, where she moves to New York City, followed by Samantha, who is overprotective of her, much to Tara's annoyance. All Tara wishes is to return to a normal life, even starting a relationship with her friend Chad Meeks-Martin. Unfortunately for her, new Ghostfaces appear in New York, targeting her and her sister, and they must once again gather strength and allies together to survive and overpower the killers.
She was portrayed by Jenna Ortega, who also played Goody Addams in Wednesday and also voiced Brooklynn in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
Scream (2022)[]
- She was willing to go over to her friend Amber's house to protect her from Ghostface, unaware it was a trap.
- She tried to warn Richie that Ghostface was about to attack him.
- She and Sam tried to stop Dewey Riley from sacrificing himself to finish off Ghostface, which got himself killed.
- She grabbed Amber as she tried to shoot Sam, allowing her and Richie to escape.
- While she hits Amber multiple times, it was only out of self defence and it gave Sam, Sidney Prescott, and Gale Weathers an opening to recover and rejoin the fight.
- She saved Sam, Sidney, and Gale from Amber's final attack, killing Amber and avenging Dewey, whom Amber had killed earlier.
Scream VI[]
- She wanted to settle down with Chad and live a normal life.
- She tried to warn the bodega owner about Ghostface coming to attack him.
- When Ethan spoke of rumours about Sam, she tried to warn him not to say it.
- While she did say it in somewhat of a rude manner, it is only because it was already going around and a lot of people were bullying Sam and accusing her of being the mastermind behind the 2022 Woodsboro killings, which were (unknowingly) spread by his older sister Quinn.
- She told Chad that he should get out of the city out of concern for his safety after Amber almost killed him last time.
- She ran to help Quinn Bailey when Ghostface seemingly attacked her.
- She ran back to her apartment to try and help Sam, Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Anika Kayoko.
- She drove a police van back to Gale's apartment, allowing Sam to save her.
- She was behind the plan to lure Ghostface to the shrine, which resulted in the deaths of Wayne Kirsch, Quinn, and Ethan and the end of the New York City killings.
- She saved Chad by holding Quinn back as she tried to stab him.
- When Chad was attacked by two Ghostfaces, she was fully willing to go and save him, despite it being dangerous, only barely being held back by Sam.
- She called out Sam for tasing Frankie as punishment for trying to take advantage of Tara while she was intoxicated, as while she was grateful for Sam intervening, she thought that tasing his testicles was too far and unjustifiable on Sam’s part, especially since she did it out of revenge and could’ve easily done something else to help her.
- She allowed Sam to defend herself from Quinn by letting her go.
- By defeating Wayne and his children, she and her friends saved Gale and Mindy, who would have been killed later on by them.
- She is shown to have minor care for Ethan, seeing as though she was shocked when he got electrocuted and (presumably) died.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She can be a jerk at times, such as:
- Losing her temper towards anyone, including her own friends.
- It is also implied that she was also responsible for Ethan's hatred towards her, as she was so rude to him before he was revealed as one of the Ghostfaces and never showed any remorse towards her rude behavior towards him.
- She also mercilessly killed Ethan, and while justified given he was trying to sadistically kill her, she still took joy in taunting and killing him, as well as prolonging his death a bit.
- Losing her temper towards anyone, including her own friends.
- She has some undeniably sadistic moments, such as:
- Laughing at Ghostface like a mad person when she thought she answered his final question correctly.
- Shooting Amber in the head, which horrified Sam, Sidney, and Gale, and tells them that she still prefers The Babadook as her favorite scary movie, and even though Amber deserved it for the murders, it is still sadism.
- Sticking a knife in Ethan's mouth and laughed when she thought she killed him.
- She also sarcastically said to Wayne Bailey “Real great parenting job by the way” which upset Quinn, and while she is right that he was a bad father, it’s still corrupting.
- Helping Sam torment Wayne by giving her the approval to kill him while he was defenseless and while he did deserved to die for everything he did, it is still sadism.
- Although Sam stabbed Wayne multiple times before finishing him off, Tara got appalled over Sam's vengeance, making the former a hypocrite.
