Tangle the Lemur is a major character in the Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comics serving as one of the two deuteragonists of the Metal Virus Saga and one of the two titular main protagonists of the Tangle and Whisper miniseries (both alongside Whisper the Wolf). She is a ring-tailed lemur and a founding member of the Diamond Cutters, a Restoration rapid-response team. She is best friends with Whisper the Wolf and helped her move on from her trauma.

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- After the Eggman War ended, she protected her village from raids by Eggman's Badniks, one day meeting Sonic and Blaze during one of these.
- When Blaze offered to put out the fires in her village, Tangle happily accepted her help and thanked Sonic for his help defending the village as he left.
- She joined the Resistance and went to Angel Island to help defeat Neo Metal Sonic.
- Her and Whisper protected Tails during the battle for Angel Island and used one of the Egg Fleet’s cannons against them.
- When Neo Metal Sonic became Master Overlord, Tangle helped lure him back to Angel Island so Tails and Knuckles could get the Master Emerald back, even destroying one of Master Overlord’s wings with Blaze’s help. During the battle, Tangle bonded with Whisper.
- When Whisper visited her in Spiral Hill Village, Tangle was happy to see her and gave her a tour, introducing her to Jewel, curator of the local Mineral Museum and a childhood friend of Tangle’s.
- When the Babylon Rogues robbed the Mineral Museum and accidentally kidnapped Jewel, her and Whisper got the stolen gems back and saved Jewel. Afterwards, she thanked Whisper for her help.
- When Sonic was infected with the Metal Virus, she assured Tails he would be able to find a cure.
- Upon seeing Whisper chasing after someone who appeared to be Sonic, Tangle asked “Sonic” what was going on, and the “hedgehog” responded by saying Eggman put a mind control chip in Whisper’s mask and sent her on a rampage, so Tangle stepped in to protect “Sonic” and get Whisper’s mask off, unaware it was actually Mimic impersonating Sonic because she had never met him before.
- While Tangle fought with Whisper to get her mask off, it was only because she thought Whisper was mind controlled and made sure not to hurt her, and Whisper didn’t hold it against her.
- After Whisper explained the situation with Mimic, Tangle offered to help her catch him.
- She went with Whisper to an abandoned Eggman Empire bunker to catch Mimic, only to be tricked by Mimic impersonating Whisper and locked in a safe.
- After being rescued by Whisper, Tangle apologized for being tricked by Mimic once more and promised not to let it happen again. When Whisper tried to get her to leave, she asked why and discovered it was because Whisper didn’t want to lose another friend. As Whisper began crying, Tangle sat beside her to comfort her and asked if she wanted to talk about what had happened to her in the past, promising to be quiet and listen, which Whisper agreed to.
- After learning about Whisper’s past with the Diamond Cutters, Tangle promised to help Whisper avenge her old friends and assured her they were friends before setting out to lure Mimic to the Diamond Cutters’ old base and take him down.
- When Mimic showed up at the Diamond Cutters’ old base impersonating Sonic once more, Tangle pretended to be fooled and welcomed him in, before showing him footage of the Diamond Cutters praising him and asking him if betraying them to save himself was worth it, only to discover he never cared about them to begin with and the two then fought.
- When Mimic knocked Whisper to the ground and was about to shoot her with her own Wispon, Tangle ensnared him with her tail and threw him to the floor, keeping him down and saving Whisper.
- When Whisper wanted to kill Mimic, Tangle convinced her not to since while he deserved it, Whisper would have to live with what she did for the rest of her life, and leaving him alive with the knowledge of his failure would be more of a punishment. Whisper agreed, and they locked Mimic up in Tails’ workshop before parting ways.
- Her and Whisper accompanied Tails to Central City so he could work on a cure for the Metal Virus, and they evacuated the city when Eggman arrived in his Faceship, guiding the survivors into a rescue shuttle.
- She went to check on Jewel when Eggman attacked Spiral Hill Village with the Metal Virus, only to discover Jewel had become a Zombot and was infected with the virus herself. Despite this, Tangle kept fighting and held off her infection as long as possible.
- When Sonic needed to hold off the Zombots to escape Spiral Hill Village, Tangle suggested he wrap her tail around some lampposts to be used as a tripwire, since she was already infected and had nothing to lose. She also reassured Sonic that the Metal Virus was not his fault and Starline brought back Eggman and Eggman weaponized Metal Sonic again, not him, saying she had faith him and his friends would cure everyone. This gives Sonic the encouragement he needs to keep going and he goes through with Tangle’s plan, where she sacrifices herself to hold off the Zombots long enough for everyone to escape in the shuttle before she eventually succumbs to her infection.
- She also requested Sonic to tell everyone she was sorry, especially Whisper knowing she would take it extremely hard.
- After being cured of being a Zombot by Super Sonic and Super Silver and reuniting with Whisper, she went down from Angel Island to protect civilians from Zavok.
- Her and Tails rescue Rough and Tumble from the pit they were stuck in at Echo Mine and offer them a chance at redemption, only for the skunk brothers to reject it.
- She has a victory party with the rest of the heroes, and is fine with the Babylon Rogues showing up since they helped save the world.
- When Eggman attacks the heroes during their party, Tangle helps fight him off.
- Once Sonic returns and finishes off Eggman, Tangle pulls everyone into a group hug and celebrates.
- She stops the boat that was accidentally destabilized by Belle and comforts her when she’s kicked out of the Restoration Workshop.
- Her and Belle follow Sonic, Tails, and Amy to Eggman’s tower in the sea to help them out.
- While she grabs Belle with her tail and interrogates her after some Badniks see Belle and continue walking without attacking, her suspicion was completely warranted as Belle admits she’s a Badnik, and after Belle says she doesn’t want to hurt anyone and just wants answers from Eggman about who she is, Tangle lets her go and says that it doesn’t matter what she is or where she came from because she’s trying to do good today, and she trusts her.
- She interrogates Orbot and Cubot and gets them to reveal which portal will take them to Sonic, Tails, and Amy before heading into the portal with Belle and helping the heroes defeat Eggman’s virtual Egg Vipers and escape the tower.
- When Belle cries about how her creator Mr. Tinker is no more and is Eggman once again, Tangle comforts her, saying she did a lot of good that day and Mr. Tinker would be proud of her.
- Her and Whisper helped Sonic fight the Deadly Six before Zavok incapacitated them, and upon regaining consciousness, alerts Sonic that Doctor Starline kidnapped Belle.
- She tried to keep Whisper from leaving the Restoration to go after Mimic.
- When the Forest Ridge Zone Campground caught fire, Tangle helped her friends escape and temporarily dammed the river with her tail to make it overflow and put out most of the fire, saving everyone.
- Her and Rouge worked together to stop Rough and Tumble from stealing a Chaos Emerald from Jewel’s Mineral Museum, only to be betrayed by Rouge.
- She welcomed Whisper back to the Restoration when she returned, saying how she missed her.
- She joined a team with Sonic, Whisper, and Lanolin to investigate Eggperial City.
- While Tangle suggested Diamond Cutters as a team name without asking Whisper what she thought of it first, hurting the wolf’s feelings, she just got caught up in the moment and didn’t intend to hurt Whisper’s feelings, simply wanting to be as close to Whisper as her old teammates were so they wouldn’t drift apart again and give her back what she lost, asking Whisper if they needed to talk about something later only to be shut down, and immediately gave a sincere and tearful apology as soon as Whisper said how she felt about the name, being forgiven by Whisper.
- While she got rather upset when Whisper wanted to scout Eggperial City on her own, it was justified since Whisper had almost gotten killed by Surge the last time she went solo.
- When Whisper apologizes for being a bad friend and teammate and asks for Lanolin and Tangle to be patient with her as she moves on, Tangle promises to do so as long as Whisper is patient with her being herself, which Whisper agrees to before Tangle gives her and Lanolin a group hug. Afterwards, they set out to investigate Eggman’s central control tower.
- When Whisper has a panic attack after seeing Eggman deploy his Shadow Androids, which were responsible for killing the original Diamond Cutters, Tangle hugs her and promises that she won’t let what happened before happen again, calming Whisper down.
- After Whisper and Lanolin are trapped in Eggman’s Spatial-Displacement Traps, Tangle escapes, finds the other heroes, and helps them get to Eggman’s control tower, fighting off Metal Sonic along the way.
- When Metal Sonic tried to attack Tails and Amy, Tangle protected them, only to be grabbed by Eggman, who pressed his gun up against her head and was about to kill her when Lanolin and Whisper escaped their Spatial-Displacement Traps and saved her, escaping the tower.
- She grabbed onto Whisper and Sonic, and after Whisper launched them into the air with her Wispon’s Rocket mode, Tangle threw Sonic into Eggman’s tower, allowing him to destroy Eggperial City and save the world.
- She welcomed Duo into the Diamond Cutters, unaware he was actually Mimic back to get revenge.
- When Whisper and Silver attacked Duo thinking he was Mimic only to seemingly be proven wrong, Tangle did not get mad at Whisper, instead hugging her and assuring her she’s there for her.
- While she agrees to vote Silver out of the Diamond Cutters thanks to Mimic’s manipulations, she’s hesitant to do so, only going through with it because Lanolin silently intimidates her to get her to agree with her. She also apologizes for voting Silver out, unlike Lanolin.
- Despite being properly wary of Surge and Kit, she still believes in Sonic and his ideals and is willing to give them a chance.
- She admits to Jewel she misses hanging out with her, and promises to do so more.
- Along with the other Diamond Cutters, she worked as a referee at the Clean Sweepstakes.
- When Sonic, Tails, and Amy’s Extreme Gears malfunction and they fall off of them, Tangle asks if they’re okay and calls Lanolin out for not caring about their safety.
- After Lanolin breaks the track during the Clean Sweepstakes trying to catch the Phantom Rider, Tangle saves the racers from falling off the track along with Whisper and the Phantom Rider himself, who was actually Sonic.
- When Mimic impersonating Surge threatens Tangle and Whisper to trick Whisper into attacking the real Surge, Tangle tries to stop the ensuing fight.
- She doesn’t tell Lanolin and Duo that Sonic is the Phantom Rider because she trusts Sonic and doesn’t believe what she saw, which is justified both with Lanolin given her lack of trust towards Tangle and Whisper and recklessness with how she tried to catch the Phantom Rider and with Duo, who was actually Mimic. She also wonders if she should tell them later on, only for Whisper to tell her not to worry about it.
- After Whisper shows Tangle recordings from her mask proving there were two Phantom Riders and Sonic didn’t attack anyone, Tangle encourages Whisper and promises they’ll figure out what’s going on.
- When Jewel tells her and Whisper about Clutch's treachery, Tangle tells Jewel Sonic is the Phantom Rider because she knows she can trust her.
- Her and Whisper try to get in contact with Sonic during the final event of the Clean Sweepstakes to get his help in taking down Clutch.
- She stops Lanolin from firing her Wispon at Sonic.
- She grabs Surge with her tail to try to stop her from attacking Sonic, only to be electrocuted.
- When the Restoration Shuttle falls, she goes with Sonic and Whisper to save everyone, convincing Lanolin to help them and apologizing for hurting her.
- After discovering Duo really was Mimic, her and Whisper chase after him when he tries to escape, only for him to get away.
- While rightfully mad at Lanolin, she saves her anger towards her for later to help guide the Restoration Shuttle to safety.
- After Jewel is saddened by the Restoration HQ’s destruction, Tangle comforts her and says how the Restoration is made up of the people, not the building.
- When Jewel blames herself for what happened to the Restoration HQ, Tangle once again comforts her and assures her what happened was Clutch’s fault and not hers.
- When Whisper wants to find Mimic and end him, Tangle tells her not to, merely wanting to stop Mimic, which Whisper reluctantly agrees to.
- She goes with Whisper and Silver to find Mimic and stop him.
- While the admirable standards of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise are high, Tangle more than meets them with her low resources and the key role she’s played in saving the world multiple times, as well as stopping a forest fire and saving Whisper from being killed by Mimic.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She can be reckless and impulsive at times, such as when she rushed into Eggperial City or infamously named her new team the Diamond Cutters without asking Whisper first. This is a minor prevention since Tangle always apologizes for her mistakes and makes up for them, but it still hasn’t been fully subverted.
