Steven "Steve" Gomez is a supporting antagonist in the Breaking Bad franchise. He is the best friend of Hank Schrader and works beside him as D.E.A. Agent. Steve cooperates with Hank seeking to take down the druglord Heisenberg.

He is portrayed by Steven Michael Quezada.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • Walked hand-in-hand alongside Hank on the hunt for dangerous drug-trafficking criminals.
  • Supported his close friend in a variety of ways and was loyal to him.
  • Helped to catch Krazy 8 and after becoming a DEA informant, he made sure his identity as a blackmailer was protected, and dropped all charges.
  • He assisted Hank in helping to retrieve $700,000 dollars of drug dealer money from a dead drop.
  • Helped Hank catch Emilio Koyama and led a meth lab bust where he recovered another $700,000 dollars.
  • Helped Hank achieve his life mission of finding the mysterious Heisenberg to catch him and put him behind bars.
  • When he thought that Hank was too obsessive to this mission, he pleaded to him to take a little vacation.
  • He forced without his mind by his boss, the special agent George Merkert to replace Hank after punching Jesse in the face and not at all happy about it. He also thanked him at the graduation party for his work.
  • When Hank gets hurt by the Salamanca Cousins he visits him in the hospital and takes the blame from Marie for failing to allow Hank to keep his gun.
  • Helped to find out about Hank's theory that Gus is a drug kingpin (even when he didn't believe it), though he fails at finding anything.
  • After Gus' death, which shocks them both he admires Hank for being right about his theory.
  • Helped investigate Mike Ehrmantraut to tie up loose ends about the Gus Empire.
  • As Hank comforts Walt when he fakes crying, he also tried to lighten his mood, showing that he has respect for Walt.
  • Tried helping Hank to make sure that Walt will end up behind bars, even though the two didn't have any information about him.
  • Unlike Hank, he does show some sympathy for Jesse and is concerned about what could happen to him in their mission to catch Walt. This is also shown from how he refers to him as "the kid" whereas Hank reduces him to a "junkie murderer."
  • Immediately chastised and restrained Jesse after he spit at Walt to prevent any escalation, while Hank offered much less interference.
  • He let Hank to be the one to arrest Walt, although that ends very quickly.
  • When Jack Welker and his gang start shooting on them he fights bravely with his best friend to bring the drug dealers to justice, but he fails and gets killed.
  • It is shown that he was a good and lovable man, as even Marie (Hank's widow) missed him after his death and so did his widow, Blanca and their three children. This also shows that like Hank he dedicated his life to justice even at the cost of his private life, emphasizing him to lack corrupting traits.
  • Especially with the erratic morality throughout the franchise, Gomez lacks any particular or notable corrupting traits, and is consistently one of the most moral and righteous characters in the show.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He falls a little short of the admirable standard compared to Hank and Walter himself, due to the latter successfully taking down more drug empires with no legal power of his own. However, in the grand scheme of things, this is a fairly minor prevention, as both Walt and Hank have a more direct role in the story and greater focus placed on them.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Breaking Bad character who is considered NPG.
    • Ironically, he died confronting Kenny, who is an NPE with a similar prevention to Gomez.
