Splinter is the deuteragonist of the 2023 animated film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. He is an animal-born mutant rat turned, and the sensei/adoptive father of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo.

He was voiced by Jackie Chan who also played Inspector Lee from the Rush Hour film series.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?

• Even as a normal rat, he showed moral agency, as he rescued the baby turtles when he found them in the sewers.
• While he did start out as a misanthrope, it was only because of his traumatic past, as he subverts this corrupting quality in the final battle, as he realizes that not every human is evil.
• He raised the turtles and trained them how to defend themselves.
• While he does have the turtles steal food, it is only because they have no way to pay for things themselves.
• He tried to make the sewer feel more like the human world for the turtles.
• He rescued the turtles from TCRI.
• He helped fight Superfly.
• He is the one who got the humans to deliver the anti-mutant serum to Superfly, allowing him to stand out amongst the other heroes.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?

• He mentioned that he would beat up anyone who would bother the turtles, even saying that Scumbug would "eat what was left." While it's unlikely that he would kill children, it was still unnecessarily violent since he would be beating up minors with far less fighting skills than him.
• He coldy ate his cockroach friend Kevin immediately after he died. While it could be argued that he was acting on his rat instincts, he still showed clear sentience as a rat, so this explanation doesn't hold up.
• He has some minor jerk moments, such as purposefully making his backstory longer to get back at the turtles.

Trivia

• He is the so far the only version of Splinter to be Near Pure Good.
• It is possible that his status could be affected in the future, as both a TV series and a sequel based on Mutant Mayhem are currently in the works.
