This is my power. And I'm not using it to run away anymore. I'm using it to protect my friends!

Sonic the Hedgehog is the titular main protagonist of Paramount Pictures' Sonic Cinematic Universe.

He is an anthropomorphic hedgehog born on the planet known as Green Hill Zone with the power of supersonic speed. He was forced to leave the Green Hill Zone from the evil Echidnas and build a life for himself on Earth. He is the film's adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog from the video game franchise.

He is voiced by Benjamin L. Valic as a child and by Ben Schwartz as a teenager. Schwartz also voiced Randy Cunningham in Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, and Dewey Duck from the DuckTales 2017 reboot.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • He idolized Tom Wachowski for his good deeds during the years he was hiding alone on Earth.
  • He truly cares greatly for Longclaw, his family, and his friends.
  • Much like his game counterpart, he is willing to forgive former foes, and he helped redeem Shadow and Knuckles in the second and third movies, allowing them to be better people.
    • Also, unlike his game counterpart, he doesn't call Shadow "Faker".

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

  • He saved a turtle from being hit by a car. He also pitied the turtle, due to its lack of mobility and used his speed to give it a free ride across the street to make up for it nearly being run over.
    • While he did accidentally drop the turtle while moving at high speeds and technically endangered it as a result, this particular moment was played for laughs and isn't meant to be taken seriously. Furthermore, he immediately made up for it by catching the turtle again right after.
  • Although he had a brief moment where he chastised Tom for abandoning Green Hills, even calling him a jerk for doing so, it's somewhat justified since he lived a full of danger and hiding and was being chased his entire life while Tom had nothing bad going on himself, so it's more of a Heating-Up Period.
    • Furthermore, when he was going to leave Earth and travel to a different world, he apologized to Tom for what he said, showing that he felt remorseful for what he said and was merely in the moment.
  • He saved Tom and Maddie from Robotnik at the Transamerica Pyramid and also prevented them from falling to their deaths.
  • When he finally recovered his strength, instead of running away from everyone, he chose using his power to protect the citizens of Green Hills from Robotnik over prioritizing his own safety, he later defeated Robotnik and sent him to the Mushroom Planet.
    • This also inspired Tails to leave his village, where everyone from his home world believed his two tails were weird and unnatural, to go assist him and protect people.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]

  • After learning that Tails was self-conscious about having two tails, Sonic assures him that his trait was nothing to be ashamed of which helped Tails feel better about himself.
  • He empathized with Knuckles when the latter told him that he also lost the people he considered family to him like his father, since Sonic when he was young also lost Longclaw, who was like a mother to him.
  • When Tails was knocked unconscious by Robotnik, who stole their compass that would lead to the Master Emerald, Sonic rushed to his aid instead of retrieving said compass back, something even Knuckles himself noticed.
  • He went to go find the Master Emerald alone, not wanting to put anyone else in danger after Tails was knocked out by Robotnik.
  • He saved Knuckles from drowning even though they were enemies and he attempted to kill him several times.
  • He forgave Knuckles for everything he had done to him previously, knowing that he was manipulated by Robotnik and not evil at heart. By then, the two of them became great friends and battle comrades after they realized how similar they are and that Knuckles wasn't a bad person.
  • When Robotnik trapped an injured Sonic, Tom and Maddie in the ring of fire, Sonic initially encouraged them to get away from him since he knew Robotnik was only after him.
  • Once he used the Chaos Emeralds and transforms into Super Sonic, he defeated Robotnik and saved the whole world, possibly even the entire multiverse as a whole.
    • While it does seems that he killed Robotnik and didn't show remorse for it, it was justified given everything Robotnik did, as he threatened to kill Tom, Maddie, and Ozzy out of spite when they met again, as well as him taking over the whole world. Also, Robotnik survived the last battle.
  • Despite having become a powerful entity, Sonic ultimately chooses to separate himself from the Chaos Emeralds' overwhelming power after using it simply to create a chili dog, humbly stating that he still has more to learn.

Knuckles[]

  • He tries to help Knuckles understand that being on Earth isn't bad.
  • When Knuckles attempted to threaten Maddie for grounding him, Sonic advised him not to provoke her when she's as angry as she is.
  • He tried to cheer up Knuckles during his grounding.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3[]

  • When Shadow begins causing havoc in Tokyo, Sonic is immediately called upon to stop him. Alongside Tails and Knuckles, he attempts to stop him but is overpowered. Sonic still shows courage by standing up to Shadow, even though the odds are stacked against him.
  • Although he did tease Tails about how he looks like a Pokemon, it was never really a corrupting factor given that it was harmless joke.
  • After G.U.N. Commander Walters' (possibly) death, Sonic takes on the responsibility of keeping the digital keycard safe, a task that is crucial to preventing the destruction of Earth.
  • Despite his initial distrust for Dr. Robotnik and Agent Stone, Sonic proves his maturity by forming an uneasy alliance with Robotnik in order to stop Shadow and thwart Gerald Robotnik's plans.
    • His suspicions were ultimately proven correct since he, Tails, and Knuckles were all double-crossed by Robotnik and Agent Stone, who both allianced with Shadow & Gerald Robotnik and were almost killed afterwards.
  • He tries to convince Shadow that he understands he's hurting, but he shouldn't let his pain define him.
  • He asks Tom and Maddie for help to stop Dr. Robotnik, Gerald Robotnik, Agent Stone, and Shadow.
  • In a last-ditch effort to stop Shadow and his destructive plans, Sonic channels the power of the Chaos Emeralds to transform himself into Super Sonic.
    • Although Sonic initially sought revenge against Shadow for nearly killing Tom and showed clear rage and hatred during their battle, even going as far as admitting to Tails and Knuckles that he is completely fine with defeating Shadow, Gerald, Ivo and Stone alone to save the world, he eventually comes back to his senses and realizes that Tom wouldn't want him to kill anyone and that ultimately no one wins when it comes to revenge.
    • Even when he was filled with anger and rage, once he confronted Wade for the Master Emerald, all he did was quickly confiscate it from him without harming him in any way, shape or form, and when he arrived at the Eclipse Cannon where the villains were, he only attacked Shadow and had no interest in fighting or killing the two Robotniks despite their wrongdoings, showing that he still held standards and was against hurting anyone.
    • When Shadow hypocritically called him out for letting vengeance get the best of him and abandoning his friends to get revenge while lecturing him about Tom, he rightfully rebukes him due to Shadow being a hypocrite as he himself was already filled with rage and anger when Sonic previously tried to convince him to let it go peacefully.
  • Sonic confronts Shadow while he was bent on vengeance for the loss of his dearest friend Maria Robotnik. Instead of continuing his battle, Sonic empathizes with Shadow's pain, mentioning his own loss with Longclaw, and teaches Shadow that his pursuit for revenge will only destroy him even further. This moment of emotional clarity and compassion helps Shadow realize the importance of letting go of his anger and working together for the greater good, which marks a great turning point for Shadow's character.
  • Alongside Tails, Knuckles, as well as Robotnik and Shadow, he helps prevent the Eclipse Cannon from destroying the Earth.
  • He and Shadow managed to hold the Eclipse Cannon off long enough for Tails, Knuckles and Robotnik to change its trajectory, saving the world in the process.
  • Despite having a personal disliking against him for so long, Sonic respectfully acknowledges that Robotnik's sacrifice saved the world from total annihilation, saying people always have a choice. He gives respect to Shadow as well for redeeming himself when it mattered most and also saving the world.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He is a bit mischievous, such as when he used his super speed to mess with the bar patrons and cause unnecessary damage to the establishment, throwing a house party while Tom and Maddie were away, and messing with Crazy Carl by forcing the hunter to get caught by his own traps.
  • He can also be a bit reckless at times, such as when he kicked Tom and Maddie off a building, which nearly got them killed because he goofed off while smashing Robotnik's Badniks over actually trying to take him down as it gave Robotnik the time he needed to use his quill to power his ship. Though to be fair, he was unaware that Robotnik even had one of his quills to begin with at the time, meaning he probably would have acted differently had he known. Another reckless moment he had was when he drove a bank truck and couldn't stop it from moving due to its broken brakes while also trying to getting rid of some bombs, despite the clear danger he wasn't taking the situation seriously. He ended up throwing the final bomb into a sewer grate, causing great damage throughout the city block in the process.
  • Like his game counterpart, he can be arrogant and jerkish, like when he brags how fast he is, teasing Knuckles, and calling Shadow a "New Hedgehog". The latter example leads him to underestimating both Shadow and Metal Sonic during their fights in the third film. He also rudely snatches the Master Emerald from Wade despite the latter promising to protect it at all costs. However, he was only angry at the fact that Shadow nearly killed Tom and he still didn't harm Wade so that's a minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • Sonic, alongside his adoptive mother Maddie Wachowski are the only Sonic Cinematic Universe characters to be Near Pure Good.
  • He, Tails, and Shadow are the only characters in the movie series to have the same moral ranking as their game counterparts (Sonic being NPG, Tails being PG, and Shadow being IA and IH respectively), as Knuckles is IA as opposed to NPG, Robotnik is a VB as opposed to being NPE while his grandfather Gerald being the exact opposite, being NPE instead of a VB.
  • He is one of the only other two official versions of Sonic the Hedgehog to be NPG, as almost every single other version of the blue blur have far too many corrupting qualities to qualify as NPG and Ugly Sonic failing the admirable standards too hard to be Near Pure Good.
  • He fits the description of the moral scaling trio, with him being NPG, Tails being PG, and Knuckles being IA.
