Smudge Araujo is one of the main protagonists of the long-running Brazilian comic-book series, Monica's Gang (alongside Jimmy Five, Monica and Maggy). He is a hydrophobic boy that lives in the Lemon Tree Neighbourhood, São Paulo. Due to his hydrophobia he immensely dislikes taking baths, and does all he can to never touch water, which he succeeded until his teenager years. He is the best friend and recurrent plan-partner of Jimmy Five, a close friend of Maggy, Dustine's boyfriend, and nephew of Captain Fray, also being his archenemy.
In Monica Teen/Monica Adventures, he starts taking baths, despite still not liking them, is the most "Punk" member of the gang, and is still one of the main characters, often going in many dangerous adventures with his friends.
He was voiced by the late Isaura Gomez, and recently by Paulo Cavalcante in the cartoons. In the Monica Teen cartoon, he is voiced by Ítalo Luiz.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
General[]
- Despite disliking water, and seemingly, hygiene as a whole, he cares a lot about the planet, always trying to conscientize people about saving power and discarding trash correctly.
- Alway was one of the characters with the least corrupting qualities in the original comics in comparison to most, despite still having a lot, and subverted most of them in Monica Teen.
Monica's Gang[]
- He doesn't want to participate in Jimmy's infallibly plans and is only convinced to do so by the latter's cunning.
- He stopped Fray from torturing his parents.
- Helped the gang defeat Captain Fray multiple times, and in many of them he was key to his defeat, due to both being each other's most personal enemies.
- In a particularly admirable deed, he ate a super salty snack destined to Maggy, which Fray would use to make so Maggy drank all of the Ocean's water, making Earth dry, which would cause immense problems, and he said he did it to save his friends, even though they tried to forcibly give him a bath in the same story.
- Helped in the second defeat of the Tenebrous Doll.
- Helped Doreen's plan to de-pollute the city.
- Stopped a power mad Jimmy Five from conquering the universe, by pulling out the last of his five, wish granting magical hair strings, and wishing so that he never had his powers.
- Accepted Valdemar as his friend.
- Teaches Denise to see things through imagination.
- Helped Maggy deal with Viviane, the Witch multiple times.
- He loves and cares for his girlfriend, Dustine, and his pet pig, Chauvy.
- He saved the entire world from exploding by overcoming his hydrophobia and washing his hands, as the formula to stop the explosion was "water that touched the hands of a boy that hasn't washed his hands for over 6 months.
Monica Adventures[]
- Helped defeat Yuka, the Witch.
- Battled his ID Monster, Kainin, that represented his fear, and used his powers after he defeated him to help the gang defeat the other ones and Dr. Bikkuri, the leader of them all.
- Helped stopping the Flying Donkey from ending life in Earth.
- Stopped the cyber-bullying trends on the internet and revealed who was behind it.
- Defeated Dr. McClean and his microbots.
- In the "Reverse Tower", along with Sofia and Denise, he was one of the friendliest characters towards Penha, despite everything she did to the gang in the past.
- In the "Reverse Tower", he discover that his uncle was only Captain Fray because of a pact he made with a demonic entity of evil, the Serpent, as a kid, and tries to remove the filthy energy inside him to make him free of the Serpent's influence, but this was the Serpent's plan, as it wanted a new host, and Smudge was perfect, and in the end, Fray took his power back to prevent Smudge from going through what he went through.
- Tried to help Jimmy Five in the period he was having a hard time in his relationship with Monica.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Has some very childish moments in Monica Teen, where he acts in an ill temper or don't pay attention in anything for dumb motives.
- Has some mischievousness left, such as when he scared Monica for no reason.
Trivia[]
- He is one of the two of the four main protagonists to be Near Pure Good, alongside Monica.
- His movie, play and Graphic MSP counterparts don't count, due to do not doing anything but standard heroism (and sometimes no heroism at all.)
