“ | Time can change a lot of people, especially in their behaviour. But I still understand that -- That there's some people out there that can't seem to be perfect. Taking the aforementioned "Oddity" person. He's understandable in a lot of ways, and it baffles me as to why he is still there. It's just like -- Like someone is just... Forcing him to be there. He deserves way better than to be treated like a literal animal. I'm sorry for his grievance, Jason. | „ |
~ Smith Jones' opinion on Oddity's abuse, showing great concern for him. |
Smith Jones is the overall main protagonist of SleepingGuy's Slenderverse series Rememberence, as well as being the overarching protagonist of its non-canon black-and-white spinoff video game Adrenaline for a God.
He is an investigator who was being pursued by Slenderman, alongside other mystical beings. Throughout his past life, Smith Jones had been heavily bullied and mocked to the point of feeling very nervous on how he looks, which may explain why his face is never revealed on camera. Later on, he would move out with his older sister, Diane, alongside his friends (Jason Hemwig, Bart Montgomery & Susan Carol) just at the age of 23. Later on, Slenderman somewhat called a truce and decided to aid Smith in his adventures whilst giving him helpful tips. He's also the love interest, and soon to be boyfriend, of Susan.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- During the first episode of season 1, Smith healed an injured Jason Hemwig, who had been cut whilst washing up, even putting a plaster on the wound & reassuring Jason that it'll be alright.
- In the third episode, Smith approached an anxious Susan Carol (whom was nervous about going outside and "getting eaten alive" by the creatures) and gives her an encouragement hug, melting her anxiety away in the process and showing utter selflessness in the process.
- Warned his crew about Slenderman's arrival in the fifth episode, and even helping out a baffled Jason, who had no clue over the current situation.
- Mourned the death of Susan Carol, and later becomes genuinely pleased that she was revived in season 11.
- After noticing that his baby brother was kidnapped by THOUGHT, Smith, alongside Jason, goes on a quest to save his brother.
- Noticeably, Smith reacts in pure panick over the situation, asking THOUGHT multiple times where his baby brother is.
- He decides to locate the nearest hideout instead of forcing his comrades to build one, being nervous that it would decrease their mental state.
- While Jason was telling the story of what happened whilst he was gone, Smith shows concern over the grievance of Oddity and Oddity himself, wishing him the best of luck and that things will be okay.
- While in a harsh tone, he called out Frank on his selfish and psychotic nature, as if he was trying to assure Frank that he has gone completely mad.
- He becomes the willing mentor of Jason, helping him become progressively competent & giving him the spot as the third leader of the group.
- After mourning the death of his brother, Smith comforts a tortured victim before releasing him, even healing the victim with the nearest medkit.
- Gestured to his crew to escape the bunker, and when Smith himself was in danger, Jason immediately helps Smith by freeing him of the clutches of Slenderman, showing that Smith's actions have truly changed Jason's incompetent behaviour drastically.
- Takes Jason and Bart to be revived, thus saving the latter for two seasons straight.
- Alongside Jason, he refused to give out his friends' locations to THOUGHT, and where exactly they were.
- Once again patches up an injured Jason Hemwig, preventing him from dying, and even rewarding Jason's courage with encourage.
- Stops everything he does to rescue Jason Hemwig, carrying throughout the chase sequence.
- Upon seeing Susan alive, Smith becomes enlightened and relieved that Slenderman revived her, and upon hearing Susan's confession of having secretly loved Smith, he mentions that he'd even felt the same about her, and even became lovers.
- Upon fusing with the Sanctum and discovering his newfound powers, Smith vows to give the creatures a better life and to instead seal THOUGHT away instead of directly killing him.
- Countless times, he had resisted corruption from many beings like Slenderman and Geminald, and it was prophecied in Adrenaline for a God that even if Geminald attempted to corrupt him for one minute straight, he would always outdo him.
- He's actually so admirable that during Adrenaline for a God, it leads up to the creation of another character known as Guidance, a being known for giving support and guidance throughout the game. And seeing as this sets into a timeline where Smith lives happily with Susan (who became his wife in the future) and an unnamed child after sealing THOUGHT away, Guidance sealing away Avarus is a symbolism of Smith sealing THOUGHT away, thus this is the sole reason for Guidance's selfless nature.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Accidentally kicked off the events of the series by entering Desire Lake Forest, though this prevention is extremely weak considering that Smith had massive second thoughts on entering the forest. Besides that, it wasn't out of arrogance that he did it either, it was more or less misguidance, curiosity and interest, as he wasn't expecting to see any mystical beings there, despite the town's beliefs.
- Qualifies as Minor Lethal as he did kill a mutant by slamming its head into a table to escape from Frank (granted that Frank was the secondary villain of the series), though this serves as merely accidental, as he simply wanted to knock it unconscious (as the mutants tend to have limited memory). He even questions why he killed it as well.
- Unintentionally left his baby brother to die in the hands of THOUGHT, but this again serves as misguidance rather than anti-heroism, as he believed that it was just deceivery to get himself killed, and he even believed that his brother was somewhere else. And upon discovering his brother's body, Smith deeply apologizes to him, even stating that it should've been himself rather than his brother. He just didn't know what was going on at that time.
Trivia[]
- To date, he is the only Near Pure Good in Rememberence, while other people may have a chance like Susan Carol. Additionally, he's the only Near Pure Good in both Adrenaline for a God and presumably out of the entire Slenderverse.
- As stated by the creator of Rememberence, Smith and Susan will become a "shining bright light of hope for the world to remember. As our one true hero" in Season 12 - Onwards, hinting that they may do something that will truly cross the Goodness Zone.
