Work hard... and be sure to smile. After all, without joy and laughter to balance the sorrow, this world can never hope to have a bright... future.
~ The end of Sir Nighteye's speech and final words, before he succumbs to his wounds in a hospital room.

Mirai Sasaki, better known as Sir Nighteye, is a major character in the 2016 Shonen manga/anime series, My Hero Academia.

He is All Might's former sidekick, that constantly served as the brains of the operations. After a disagreement after All Might's fight with All For One, however, they broke up and went on separate directions. Sir Nighteye then took in as a sidekick a student named Mirio Togata, whom he believes will be a very good successor for All Might's power, One For All. However, All MIght passes his powers on to another student named Izuku Midoriya, whom Nighteye completely disapproves, but ends up accepting as sidekick for a stage anyways. During Izuku and Mirio's stage, Nighteye plotted an invasion to the criminal Yakuza group, Eight Precepts of Death, led by Kai Chisaki, aka Overhaul, an event where he ends up dying but his view in the future and in his pupils change forever.

He was voiced by Shin'ichirō Miki in Japanese, who also voiced Roy Mustang, and Brandon McInnis in English.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • He solved many problems in the past as All Might's sidekick, who All Might trusted enough to tell the secret of One For All.
  • While he betrayed All Might's trust and used Foresight on him, trying to get him to retire, as he'd die a painful death, it was out of care for his friend, in the best of intentions.
  • Despite their disagreements, he never stopped admiring All Might and was still a respectful fan of his.
  • Despite losing communication with All Might, he had Mirio Togata trained in his agency so he could succeed All Might as a One For All wielder.
  • He started investigating and gathering information on Kai Chisaki and the Yakuza.
  • When the current One For All wielder, presented by Mirio, Izuku Midoriya, told him he wanted to get in his agency, Nighteye tested him, and despite his disbelief, he accepted Izuku after he was shown to be able to attack him without damaging any All Might content across the room.
  • When Izuku and Mirio informed they made contact with Chisaki, and that he had a little girl with him, apparently a victim of abuse, and Izuku showed regret for not saving her, Nighteye comforted him, saying it was his fault for not using Foresight in neither of them before the patrol.
  • He asked for help to many other Hero Agencies, to make up a plan to rescue Eri and defeat the Yakuza.
  • After explaining the information, he had the other Hero agencies make sure where was the Yakuza hideout by elimination, checking each one of the possible places before getting to the actual one.
  • He discovered where Eri was being hidden by using Foresight in one of Kai's men, giving this info to the rest of the heroes.
  • He, with the other heroes and the Police, attacked the 8 Precepts/Yakuza's hideout, with him being in the front squad while the other allies were being left behind to fight the villains on the way to Kai and Eri, one by one.
  • He fought a clone of Rappa made by Twice and defeated it.
  • He incapacitated Joi Irinika after Aizawa erased his quirk.
  • After Mirio was heavily injured, Nighteye, Eraser Head, and Deku came and protected him and Eri from Chisaki.
  • He protected Mirio and Eri, and when Deku almost couldn't handle Chisaki by himself anymore, he fought him, using his weapons and Foresight to predict his movements and hold him back at all costs, to the point he reached his limit and was mortally wounded by Chisaki. This proves he was willing to sacrifice himself if it meant saving Eri.
  • He asked for Ryuko to take care of Mirio.
  • In his last moments, he comforted everybody in his hospital room, telling them to keep working hard and smiling.
  • He assured All Might he held no grudge at all, and finally considered Izuku a worthy hero and admitted he was pretty much impressed by him.
  • When a crying Mirio desperately asked him not to die, Nighteye smiled and comforted him by using his Foresight one last time on Mirio and declared he will be a great hero before passing away.
  • While the admirable standards of the series are pretty high, not only does he have the third biggest role in stopping Overhaul, but it was him that started investigating him to start with, meaning he's the primary reason why the Yakuza and their plans to spread Quirk-destroying weapons across Japan was foiled, as well as Eri being saved, which allows him to pass the standards, especially considering he has limited screentime compared to other heroes.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • If his sidekicks were too serious during work, he would, due to his humor-loving personality, put them in a tickling machine to learn to be more humorous, which, due to Bubble Girl's reaction, seemed to be very uncomfortable.
  • He was a very cold jerk to Izuku at the start, not even giving him a chance to show what he is capable of before declaring that he doesn't think he is a good choice for a One For All user and that Mirio would've been a better one, although he warms up to him at the end.

Trivia[]

  • He is the first My Hero Academia Near Pure Good to die in the series, as well as being the first major hero to die.
    • Additionally, his death was caused by a Near Pure Evil villain, Overhaul.
  • He is the one of the three My Hero Academia characters approved as Near Pure Good to be a Pro Hero, and the first to appear, before Ryukyu and Hawks.
