Near Pure Good Hero Wiki

Hmph. Enough jabbering. Get on with it, already.
~ Simon Blackquill.
Silence!
~ Simon's cathphrase.

Simon Blackquill is a major character of the Ace Attorney series, being the tritagonist of Dual Destinies and a supporting character in Spirit of Justice.

He is a prosecutor that got arrested after the events of the UR-1 Incident, under the belief that he killed Metis Cykes, his own mentor, with his law license being given back only seven years later, taking the role of main prosecutor for most of the fifth game.

It's eventually revealed that he willingly took the blame for the murder as a way to protect Athena Cykes from being accused of killing her mother, after the former ended up in a incriminating spot at the moment. Eventually, thanks to the combined effort of Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice and Miles Edgeworth, Simon is capable of exposing the true culprit behinf UR-1, not only proving Athena's innocence once and for all, but also saving himself from getting the death penalty, fully obtaining his freedom back and playing a role in putting an end to the Dark Age of the Law.

He was voiced by Shunsuke Sakuya in Japanese and Troy Baker in English.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close To Being Pure Good?[]

In General/Background[]

  • In spite of the high Admirable Standard of the Ace Attorney series, Blackquill stands out for his unique act of attempted heroic sacrifice, being willing to die to protect Athena Cykes, and his personal heroism towards her, playing a key role in shaping her into the heroine that she is now.
  • He learned analytical psychology from Metis Cykes as a way to improve his skills in the court.
  • He pursued an international spy known as the phantom, eventually obtaining a vocal track of his voice and thus being capable of building a psychological profile for the spy, something that would eventually become useful seven years later.
  • When he arrived to the Cosmos Space Center and discovered Metis' lifeless body, together her nine years old daughter Athena covered in her blood, in an attempt to fix her, Simon willingly took the blame for the crime fearing the worst for Athena and uncaring of what may happen to him.
  • He pleaded "Guilty" when he was eventually arrested and brought in court for the crime, while also keeping the psychological profile safe while in prison.

Dual Destinies[]

  • Seven years later, he is allowed to prosecute again by Chief Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, as a way to lure the true culprit behind the UR-1 Incident, the Phantom, and catch him.
  • He takes part to Damian Temna's process, thus allowing Apollo Justice in proving the innocence of his client.
  • He takes part, albeit reluctantly, to Ora "Orla" Shipley's process, thus allowing Phoenix Wright in proving Orla's innocence, but also Sasha Buckler's innocence, who was accused by Simon as a way to see if the Wright Anything Agency actually cares about the truth.
  • He participates to Juniper Woods' trial to test Athena and her legal skills.
  • When the true culprit, Aristotle Means, causes a PTSD attack to Athena, Simon (together with the other witnesses) help Athena to recover from her breakdown by making her remember for what she is fighting for, eventually giving her final push needed to expose Means.
  • As the Cosmos Space Center is bombed, with one of his astronauts, Clay Terran, killed, he indicts one of the astronauts present on the crime scene, Solomon Starbuck, under the belief that he is the phantom.
  • After Athena is falsely framed for the murder of Clay Terran by the Phantom, he is still willing to defend Athena to his very end, even under pressure by his sister Aura, who creates a hostage crysis with the intent of creating a retrial for the UR-1 incident, believing Athena to be guilty of both Clay Terran's and Metis Cykes' deaths.
  • He testifies in the retrial, allowing Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth to find out, not only the true culprit of both incidents, the phantom, but also the fact that he killed and impersonated the detective Bobby Fullbright, eventually getting him arrested once and for all.
  • He asks the Wright Anything Agency to represent Aura Blackquill in court for a lighter sentence, in spite of everything she did.

Spirit of Justice[]

  • He helps Athena in proving Bucky Whet's innocence and stopping Kurukuru Tei from being closed, while also protecting her from Nahyuta's tricks.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He is a bit too mischievous to be PG, as he likes to engage in psychological tricks in the court and to unleash his hawk, Taka, on anyone he finds annoying, such as the defense and the Judge.
  • He has some notable moments of jerkiness and being wrathful, such as insulting the Judge during a trial or when he grabbed Athena while she was struggling during Bucky Whet's trial.
  • He is also not above teasing people around him, including Athena herself, making him arrogant as well.

Trivia[]

  • Out of all Ace Attorney NPGs, he has the highest amount of corrupting qualities.
