Simon, also known as Simon the Digger, is the main protagonist of the anime series Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. He is an orphan raised by his surrogate brother Kamina in an underground village. After he discovers the mecha Lagann, he grows into the universe’s greatest hero.
He was voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara in Japanese, who also voiced Natsu Dragneel, and Yuri Lowenthal in English, who also voiced teenage Ben Tennyson, Yosuke Hanamura and Radar.

Beastmen War Arc[]
- Growing up, he was immensely loyal to Kamina, digging a tunnel so they could escape from an earthquake and busting him out of jail.
- He activated Lagann with his Core Drill and used it to save Kamina, Yoko and his village from the Gunmen.
- He listened to Kamina’s advice and fought the Gunmen that killed his parents with a cool mind.
- He helped Kamina seize control over his own Gunmen, Gurren, and they then combined into Gurren Lagann to save Team Gurren from the Gunmen.
- He saved Kamina from Viral.
- He and Kamina defeated the 16 Gunmen.
- He, Kamina and Father Magin saved Adai Village from the Gunmen.
- He came up with a plan to temporarily defeat Dai-Gunzan.
- While he was jealous over seeing Kamina and Yoko kiss and couldn’t focus on fighting, Kamina snapped him out of it.
- He and Kamina killed Thymilph and seized control over Dai-Gunzan for Team Gurren.
- While he fell into a depression after Kamina’s death and started acting jerkish and violent, he eventually got over this and regained his heroic personality.
- He rescued Nia from her coffin and tried to sacrifice himself so she could escape from a Gunmen.
- He refused to give up when he and Team Dai-Gurren were captured for execution, and kept digging into the cage with his drill, reactivating Lagann and saving everyone.
- He proclaimed that Kamina lives on in his heart and he would fight as his own person, and he and Rossiu defeated Guame.
- This would also inspire humans all over the world to fight the Beastmen.
- He and Rossiu killed Adiane.
- He saved Yoko from Viral and Cytomander.
- In the final battle against the Beastmen, he and Rossiu killed Guame, then he defeated Lordgenome, allowing Team Dai-Gurren to capture Teppelin, freeing humanity from the Beastmen.
Anti-Spiral War Arc[]
- He became Supreme Commander of Kamina City, leading humanity so they could flourish over seven years.
- While him destroying the Mugann accidentally destroyed part of Kamina City, he couldn’t have seen it coming whatsoever and his intent was to protect the city. Additionally, it’s not confirmed if anyone was actually killed, given the citizens only complained about their houses being destroyed.
- He was angered when he thought Rossiu was endangering Kinon.
- He and Viral saved Rossiu and everyone on the Arc-Gurren from the Mugann, and stopped the moon from falling onto Earth.
- He forgave Rossiu for betraying him and almost having him executed, and talked him out of commiting suicide.
- He led Team Dai-Gurren in the final battle against the Anti-Spiral.
- After Kamina’s spirit helped him escape the Multiverse Labyrinth, he rescued the rest of Team Dai-Gurren from it.
- He and Team Dai-Gurren rescued Nia.
- He killed the Anti-Spiral, saving humanity, and also promised them that he would protect the universe from the Spiral Nemesis in their stead.
- He married Nia before she died, and gave his Core Drill to Gimmy so he could inherit Lagann.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can be somewhat arrogant and reckless, even as an adult.

- He and Yoko Littner are the only Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann heroes to be Near Pure Good.
