Sasha Elizabeth Waybright is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Captain Grime) of the Disney Channel animated series Amphibia.
She is a 13 year-old Slavic-American girl from Los Angeles, USA and one of Anne's best friends. After arriving in Amphibia, she became a lieutenant in Captain Grime's fraction of the Toad Army, which resulted in going separate ways with Anne. But eventually, she ends up redeeming herself and forming the Resistance to defeat King Andrias and stop his multiversal invasion, while also desiring to fix her friendship with Anne and Marcy. She represents the Pink Gem of Strength on the Calamity Box.
She was voiced by Anna Akana.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Initially, she was an antagonist and an anti-heroine in the first two seasons, as she used to be a manipulative, controlling, abusive, condescending, rebellious and cold-hearted individual who always puts both of her friends Anne and Marcy under her control despite caring for them. Despite regretfully letting herself fall from the tower in season 1 finale, she refused to learn the error of her ways and wanted to stay like this until she later discovers King Andrias' true nature. Now feeling extreme remorse over her past antagonistic behavior, she ultimately redeems herself in season 3, and even admits that she's afraid of becoming her past self again.
- Even when she was a villain, she never killed people nor did her crimes cause serious damage or bad consequences.
- Although Sasha was unsure if she could forgive Marcy over kick-starting the whole series (which is justified), she admitted that she was a bad friend herself by not paying attention to her interests. Once Marcy was freed, Sasha ultimately forgave her.
- Though she seems to manipulate Grime into helping her find her friends and going back home with them, she does actually care for him, as she helps him fight against the Herons and protects him out of fear of losing him just like she lost Anne. Throughout the series, their friendship became even stronger, as Grime decided to redeem himself like she does. Before she went back home to Earth along with her friends, they tearfully admit they're going to miss each other, showing they'll never forget how much they've been through.
Background[]
- During her first encounter with Anne and Marcy in kindergarten, Sasha tried to fight teenage bullies who hurt them. While she ended up injuring herself while trying to attack them, this caused the bullies to go away.
- Stops Maggie from bullying Anne by threatening to revoke her invitation to her pool party.
Season 1[]
- After Captain Grime captured her, Sasha befriended some of the toad soldiers and convinced them to quit their bad jobs.
- Despite the fact that he imprisoned her at Toad Tower, she convinced Grime to be nice to his soldiers, which would inspire him to redeem himself later on.
- When two herons attacked Toad Tower, instead of using it as an opportunity to escape, Sasha helped Grime fight back and defeat the herons together, despite having no real reason to.
- When Toad Tower was collapsing, thanks to One-Eyed Wally, Sasha allowed herself to fall to near-death when Anne tried to save her, being remorseful after realizing how bullish she was to her, while Grime saved her, she had no way of knowing that would happen.
Season 2[]
- Although she trained endlessly to get revenge on the Plantars and Anne, Grime revealed to her that this is only a distraction for herself, as in truth, she was deeply pained over her broken friendship with Anne. Sasha later admitted this, but also said that she wanted to protect Grime since he was her last closest friend.
- When she realized that she pushed Percy and Braddock too hard in their attempt to reclaim Barrel's Warhammer, Sasha remorsefully allowed them to quit.
- Helped Anne and Marcy recharge the Pink Gem by passing all three trials in the third temple.
- After learning from Toadie about the true meaning of support, she let go of her desire to be leader by helping Anne and Marcy perform a song that Anne wrote during Wartwood's Battle of Bands.
- While she finally achieved her goal of taking over Newtopia to rule over Amphibia along with Grime, refused to go back home and betrayed Anne and Marcy over it, she later changed her mind after discovering King Andrias' sinister nature. Sasha tried to reason with Anne that the Toad Army's invasion of Newtopia was actually preventing a greater evil from rising and fought Anne only when she (understandably) refused to listen. She later teamed up with Anne to take down King Andrias after his true nature was revealed.
Season 3[]
- She and Grime became horrified over seeing Andrias stab Marcy in the chest, showing she still cared for her despite Marcy selfishly sending themselves to Amphibia in the first place.
- After escaping to Wartwood, Sasha was extremely remorseful and guilty over her past actions (especially when she lied with Grime about Anne's status to Wartwood). After tearfully reading Anne's journal in regret, she ultimately redeemed herself and apologized for her past to Wartwoods citizens before she and Grime saved them from Frobots.
- Formed the Wartwood Resistance to fight King Andrias' forces for several weeks. While Sasha temporary passed leadership to Anne, feeling she's not worthy of the helmet, she felt happy when Anne became co-leader with her and said that she truly changed.
- Used her status as the commander of the Wartwood Resistance for good instead of manipulating others for her own benefits, showing how much she's changed throughout her life. She also puts her faith in the rest of the Resistance as she assured Anne not to worry for their well-being. Even when there are slip-ups like when Sprig and Ivy did not follow her orders, she would still forgive them.
- Stood up for Lysil and Angwin when they were punished overly harshly their mistakes. She also had a right to Parisia a moronic despot since she was not only being unfair, but her ignorance towards the threat Andrias posed to the Olms was endangering the lives of her people.
- Fought Darcy during the battle for Los Angeles, ultimately being able to cut off the cable on their helmet, freeing Marcy.
- While she did brutally attack Darcy in rage to the point of accidentally giving a scar on Marcy's face, this is justified because Darcy was very tough and difficult to be dealt with and it just cut off Grime's arm when they tried to attack her before making a sick joke about it.
- This act also makes her indirectly responsible for Anne defeating King Andrias, as Darcy tried to mind control the latter into continuing the fight when Andrias lost the will to do so. Defeating Darcy allowed Andrias to regain his free will and allow himself to be struck down by Anne out of guilt and despair after reading Lief's letter.
- After returning to Amphibia, Sasha, Anne and Marcy empowered themselves with the Calamity Gems and tried to stop The Core from spitefully eliminating all life in Amphibia via colliding Amphibia's moon with the surface, while also taking the risk of being stuck in Amphibia forever. While she and Marcy protested against Anne's plan to let her absorb all three stones, knowing that this will kill her too, they tearfully allowed Anne to do this as it was the last option left.
- During her final goodbye with the Amphibians, she tearfully told Grime that she'll miss him and asked him to find Percy and Braddock and tell them that she'll miss them too.
- As an adult, she became a child psychologist, helping teens fight their emotional problems using her own experience.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- Even after her redemption, Sasha still has some moments of being arrogant or jerkish.
- She suffers from some rage issues that are too harsh to be counted as Heating-up Periods. One such example is in the epilogue, where she honks at a nearby driver, who was driving recklessly fast, sarcastically telling them "Nice signal, buddy!", showing that she still has anger management issues she needs to work with.
