Saphira Brightscales is one of the main protagonist of the Inheritance series and the 2006 adaptation film of the same name.

she is a female blue dragon bound to Eragon. Saphira is the main dragon protagonist in the Inheritance series. Eragon found her egg in the Spine while hunting a deer after it was transported there by Arya, the elf princess, to keep her safe from Galbatorix's forces. A few days later, Saphira hatched for Eragon. Afterwards, the duo joined the Varden to take down Galbatorix.

In the movies of Eragon, she is voiced by Rachel Weisz.

  • Hatched specifically for Eragon, though she could find more capable warriors throughout Algaeasia.
  • She is loyal to her warrior and only thanks to her he manages to get special abilities like magic.
  • She saves Eragon from a number of dangerous situations, including from the orgals who were chasing him, from falling off a cliff and although she acted recklessly against his will she prevented him from being killed by the Razak.
    • It does cause Garou's death, but she definitely didn't mean for that to happen and tried to save Eragon.
  • She agrees to join Brom since she realizes how much he can help her and Eragon on their journey.
  • At Brom's request, she keeps the secret of his parentage a secret from Aragon despite her mental difficulty.
  • Although she is against it, she agrees to fly in hiding so that they will not be recognized.
  • Encourages Eragon to acquire the Warden's trust and begin an intensive training course for both of them.
  • After Brom's death, she turns his tombstone into a diamond.
  • She helps Eragon escape Durza's captivity along with Arya.

  • She is very deadly to her enemies, although this is quite understandable since she is a dragon. in some cases she even crosses the line, for example to destroy the roots of the Manoa tree, which almost causes her death and the death of Eragon.
  • She has a number of jerk actions: she roars Triana away from Eragon against his will, plays power with her teacher Glyder and tries to prevent Eragon from deciding Sloan's fate on his own.
