Bloody hell!
~ Ron's iconic catchphrase

Ronald "Ron" Billius Weasley, is the deuteragonist of the Harry Potter franchise. He is a wizard from the Pure-Blood Weasley family, former student at Hogwarts's school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he became Harry Potter and Hermione Granger's best friend, and a member of Dumbledore's Army, who participated in the Second Wizarding War. He is the sixth son of Molly and Arthur Weasley, younger brother of Charlie, Bill, Percy, Fred and George Weasley, the older brother of Ginny Weasley, the eventual husband of Hermione Granger and father of Rose and Hugo Granger-Weasley.

In the movies, he was portrayed by Rupert Grint.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • While it can be argued that Harry did more heroism than him with similar resources, Ron was by Harry's side in almost every single crusade of him, and had unique heroism moments, namely sacrificing himself in the Chess game, destroying Slytherin's locket, possibilitating the destruction of Hufflepuff's cup and making the other remember the House Elves at the kitchen, thus being responsible for their salvation, making him slightly above the in-story standards.
  • Despite often coming in odds and arguing with them (specially Percy) he couldn't love his family more, often is seen worried about them, have fun with them, and sometimes is even a little too overprotective with his sister, Ginny.
  • He is genuinely nice and polite to people around him.

Philosopher's Stone[]

  • He made friends with Harry immediately after meeting him.
  • Helped Harry as he was discovering the Wizarding World.
  • Saved Hermione from a troll, despite abhorring her, by using the Wingardium Leviosa spell to levitate his own stick and knock him out.
  • Although he was extremely jerkish towards Hermione, this ends after the Troll incident, and they become friends.
  • Stood up to Malfoy during a Quidditch game, after he insulted both Ron's family and Neville Longbottom, followed by Neville.
  • Helped trying to discover who was Nicholas Flamel.
  • Took care of Norbert for Hagrid and helped hiding her.
  • Made Hermione stop panicking, so she could set the Devil's Snare in fire to save him and Harry (book only).
  • Sacrificed himself in the Chess Game so the others would be able to get the Philosopher's Stone, ending up with a wound in the head.

Chamber of Secrets[]

  • When Harry was trapped by the Dursleys, he, Fred and George went to free him.
  • Went flying along with Harry to Hogwarts, when they couldn't go there by the Hogwarts Train.
  • Stood up for Hermione when Malfoy called her a mud-blood, equivalent of a racist insult in the real world, and tried to curse him for it.
  • Never doubted, even for a second, that Harry was innocent of the petrification incidents.
  • He and Harry disguised themselves as Crabbe and Goyle to infiltrate in the Slyrherin common-room and gather more information about the Heir of Slyhterin.
  • Remembered a very important clue while looking for the last Heir of Slytherin, with him remembering that Tom Riddle was a student in the school 50 years ago, when the event last happened.
  • Helped Harry follow the spiders, and later, escape Aragog's lair, despite his high arachnophobia.
  • Was heartbroken and devastated when Hermione was petrified.
  • Threatened Lockhart with his wand along with Harry, making him go down the Chamber along with them.
  • Was worried about Ginny when she was taken to the Chamber.

Prisoner of Azkaban[]

  • Sent gifts and letters to Harry from Egypt.
  • Defended Scabbers until the truth about him was revealed.
  • Defended Hermione when Snape called her an "insufferable know-it-all", despite him himself getting annoyed with her intelligence at times, saying he shouldn't have asked a question if he didn't want to be answered.
  • Shouted to Sirius Black (who they thought was a maniac at the moment) that he would have to kill him and Hermione if he wanted to kill Harry, with a broken leg.
  • Couldn't feel anything but disgust upon learning the truth about Peter Pettigrew.

Goblet of Fire[]

  • Invited Harry to see the World Quidditch Championship with him and his family.
  • Although he initially refused to believe Harry didn't put his name in the Goblet, even acting as a jerk to him, he eventually believed his best friend, even with no actual proof, and supported him through the trials.
  • Warned (though indirectly) to Harry that the First Trial would involve Dragons.
  • Tried to help Harry find out something to allow him to breath underwater.
  • Totally trustable of his friend, he believed Voldemort was back.

Order of the Phoenix[]

  • Didn't want to leave Harry in the dark and would've sent letters to him if Dumbledore didn't strictly make him and Hermione not to do it.
  • Despite feeling tempted to abuse of his power as prefect similar to Malfoy, he still tried to do his duty at least fairly, mainly thanks to Hermione's advice.
  • Believed Voldemort was back all the way around and defended Harry whenever the subject caused controversy at school.
  • He was a member (one of the first and most devoted ones) of Dumbledore's Army, where he and other students would practice defensive magic, out of the sight of the dictatorial High Inquisitor of Hogwarts, Dolores Umbridge.
  • He was the one to free himself, Ginny, Luna and Neville from Umbridge's Inquisitorial Army (Movie only).
  • Went to the Department of Mysteries to save Sirius along with Harry, Hermione, Ginny, Neville and Luna, and helped them fight off the Death Eaters in there.

The Half-Blood Prince[]

  • Although he initially approved of and encouraged Harry's usage of the Half Blood Prince book, he stopped doing it when they discovered that the book had a spell as dangerous as Sectumsempra.
  • He and Hermione tried to analyze and discover more things about Tom Riddle's memories every time Harry saw one in Dumbledore's classes.
  • Despite not exactly liking her, he didn't want to hurt Lavender Brown by breaking up with her.
  • Kept looking at the door of the Room of Requirement, just as Harry asked, to make sure Malfoy didn't escape from there.
  • Fought at the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, against the Death Eaters.

Deathly Hallows[]

  • Participated in the Battle of the Seven Potters, being one of the ones to transform in Harry Potter.
  • He saved a pregnant Nymphadora Tonks from a death eater.
  • Was horrified when George's ear got cut off.
  • Attended at his brother's marriage.
  • Went on a journey with Harry and Hermione to destroy the Horcruxes by themselves, leaving his family and everything else behind.
  • Infiltrated the Ministry of Magic with them to retrieve Slytherin's locket.
  • Although he acted extremely mean towards Harry and Hermione after they got the Locket, it is stated that immediately after he departed from them, and consequently, away from the Locket, he felt remorse and tried to get back to them, showing it was more of a corruption from the locket than anything from him.
  • Saved Harry from drowning and retrieved the Gryffindor's Sword out of the lake/well.
  • Destroyed Slytherin's Locket, even fighting his own insecurities the Locket was using against him, to do it.
  • Didn't blame Hermione for being mad at him, as he did deserve it.
  • Warned the others about the taboo on Voldemort's name.
  • When they all got kidnapped, he helped them scape Malfoy Manor, along with Luna and Ollivander.
  • He got so traumatized over Hermione being tortured by Bellatrix, that his Boggart, which used to be a spider, became her being tortured.
  • Helped breaking into Gringotts and escaping it.
  • Although it was Hermione that broke Hufflepuff's Cup, it was his idea to go to the Chamber of Secrets and use the dead Basilisk's tooth, making him responsible for the destruction of this Horcrux too.
  • He realized they had to save all house-elves in the Hogwarts kitchen, even though he, like most wizards, usually thought of them only as workers (though Ron never abused any of them), which makes Hermione, an activist of rights for the House-elves, so happy that she kisses him.
  • Helped looking for Ravenclaw's Diadem, in the Room of Requirement.
  • Though not initially wanting it, he saved Malfoy and Crabbe
  • Was haunted over Fred's death, trying to take down the Death Eater responsible for it.
  • Fought against many Death Eaters in the final battle.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He can act pretty rudely or as a jerk sometimes, though it's been a little less in later installments.
  • He has problems controlling his anger, sometimes getting too wrathful over something, despite most of his rage moments being at least justified due to it being him reacting to an injustice, such as Malfoy's bullying or Hermione denying Crookshanks trying to kill Scrabbers.
  • He is shown not to be above cheating, as he approved Harry's usage of the Half-blood Prince book at Potions class, even wishing he found the book instead, and drinking a bit of Felix Felicis before a Quidditch game (though it actually wasn't Felix Felicis in the end).
