Richard "Rick" Mitchell is the deuteragonist of the 2021 animated film The Mitchells vs. the Machines. He is the nature-loving father of Katie and Aaron Mitchell, and the husband of Linda Mitchell. He is shown to dislike technology and prefer nature and his family.
He was voiced by Danny McBride.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He convinced his family to go on a road trip to bring his daughter Katie to film school.
- When PAL’s minions attacked the dinosaur store Rick and his family were at, he discussed survival training to keep them safe.
- He attempted to stop the people from being captured at the Dino store, only failing because of the robots' lasers.
- While he did intentionally break the family’s phones, this is necessary so PAL won’t track them.
- He went with his family to the mall to install the kill code to kill PAL.
- He helped his family take down the household objects that PAL took over, such as the Giant Furby.
- While he was seen walking out of the mall when it is burning, it is not shown that he took part in it, and it is left vague plus he explicitly said that burning down the mall is a bad idea.
- He came up with the idea to go to PAL’s lair to shut her down.
- While he got the family captured after seeing a video of Katie telling Aaron she was lying about having faith in him, this was an accident and he felt remorse for it.
- When he and his family get captured, he decided to escape so he can get the video that will shut down all of the robots on the screens.
- He saved Katie’s life from PAL after PAL tries to drop her to her death.
- He broke a part of PAL’s lair so Katie can defeat her.
- He dropped Katie off at film school at the end.
- While he did start the film off as thinking Katie's films were a bit weird, he grew to appreciate them as the film goes on.
- While he does break Katie’s laptop, this was an accident and he felt guilty for it.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He has a few jerk moments, such as cancelling Katie's plane ticket to college without consulting her.
- He is shown to be reckless such as not listening to Katie's concerns about eating at a bad restaurant, performing a car stunt that almost got him and his family killed, and doing a mule ride onto a steep cliff when a storm occurs.
