He is a US Special Forces officer and the field leader of Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad. Initially distrustful towards the criminals in his squad, he would come to see them as capable allies as time went on.
He was portrayed by Joel Kinnaman.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Despite having a lot of corrupting traits in Suicide Squad, by the end of the movie and leading into The Suicide Squad he had completely subverted these.
- He grew to respect the squad, seeing them as more than just criminals. He even formed a close friendship with Harley Quinn, who he initially hated.
- Flag was initially willing to turn a blind eye to Waller's crimes, even though he personally disagreed with them, however he only did so for the sake of his girlfriend June Moon. By The Suicide Squad he had become more skeptical of Waller and willing to break her orders if he disagreed with them.
- Despite the DC Extended Universe's hefty Admirable Standards, Flag stands out for killing the Enchantress and saving the world as well as the impact his relationship with the squad had lead them to.
Suicide Squad[]
- He became in charge of Task Force-X to ensure they operate according to the government.
- He fell in love with June Moon and tried to save her from being taken over by the Enchantress.
- He felt remorse for accidentally releasing the Enchantress onto the city and tried to stop her.
- Despite having lied to the squad about why they were gathered in the first place, he eventually confesses the truth and even destroys the remote to the nano-bots in their necks to free them out of repentance; however, the squad still decides to finish their mission anyway.
- Although he initially fell for the Enchantress's vision of him and June, he quickly shakes it off with El Diablo's help.
- He hesitated about sacrificing El Diablo to kill Incubus, futilly begging him to get out of the detenation zone and only set the bomb off with El Diablo in the zone anyway because they didn't have a choice.
- He finally kills the Enchantress by crushing her heart, putting an end to her reign and freeing June. Moreover, he didn't even know June was still alive inside the Enchantress and thought he killed her too, overjoyed that she's still alive. This shows he was willling to sacrifice the woman he loves to save the world, putting his feelings aside for the greater good.
The Suicide Squad[]
- He lead a new incarnation of Task Force X to Corto Maltese to find and destroy Project: Starfish.
- While his group was actually being used as a diversion by Waller, Flag was unaware of this.
- After being rescued by Sol Soria, Flag becomes a supporter of her resistance.
- When Team 2 of Task Force X slaughters the Corto Maltese resistance in a misguided attempt to "rescue" Flag, he is able to calm the situation down, apologising on the squad's behalf and convincing the two groups to work together.
- Flag and the squad rescue Milton, a resistance member and supply runner, who was being accosted by Corto Maltese soldiers.
- He explains his plan to Sol Soria, using the squad's infiltration of the Jotenheim facility to distract the Corto Maltese army, leaving the presidente's palace unguarded and allowing them to easily liberate the country.
- After finding The Thinker in a bar, Flag turns himself over to the Corto Maltese army along with Bloodsport and Peacemaker to distract the soldiers, allowing Ratcatcher II and Polka Dot Man to extract him with little opposition.
- After finding out Harley Quinn is alive, he instructs the squad to go rescue her before moving on to Jotenheim.
- He fights alongside the squad to infiltrate Jotenheim tasks them with destroying the facility.
- Upon reaching Thinker's lab, Flag is horrified to see all of his experiments. After Grieves explains the US Government's involvement, Flag chooses to go against his orders and tries to reveal the truth about Starro to the press, leading to him fighting and unfortunately dying to Peacemaker.
- Posthumously, his defiance inspired the squad to stand up to Waller themselves, defying orders to save the people of Corto Maltese from Starro's rampage.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite subverting a majority of his negative traits, he's still too lethal for Pure Good. However since all of his victims are criminals or enemy soldiers, it's not too big of a prevention. He's also significantly less lethal than Harley, Bloodsport, Deadshot and Peacemaker.
- Some examples of this are: Detonating Slipknot's nano-bomb for attempting to escape, threatening to kill Thinker if he steps out of line and attempting to choke Peacemaker to death.
Trivia[]
- Only his versions from the DC Extended Universe and main DC Universe counts as Near Pure Good, as his DCU Earth X version never does anything heroic.
