~ Rey confesses her feelings to Kylo Ren. |
Rey, later self-proclaimed Rey Skywalker, is one of the protagonists of the Star Wars franchise. She was a scavenger on the desertic planet Jakku until she met the droid BB-8 and the defecting Stormtrooper Finn (FN-2187) and fled from the planet with them.
She discovered she is an extremely Force-sensitive being and made contact with the Resistance, led by Leia Organa. Allying herself with them, she fought the totalitarian First Order, and developed a very complex relationship with the dark warrior Kylo Ren, who is actually the son of Leia and Han Solo, Ben Solo. After many adventures, she managed to find the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and started training her Force abilities with him.
Upon learning about Ben's backstory, and how he fell to the dark side of the Force, she became determined in bringing him back to the light. After many events (including the murder of Han by the hands of Kylo), she succeeds in doing so, having Ben come back to the light side of the Force out of love for his parents and Rey. It is also revealed that she and Ben form a Force dyad, which means they're "soulmates in the force", being the cause of why they have such a strong Force-bond.
During the last battle against the First Order, it is revealed that Rey is the granddaughter of the Dark Lord of the Sith, Emperor Palpatine. Like Luke, however, she resists against the dark side of the Force's corruption, as well as her own blood legacy, and, along with a redeemed Ben Solo, with the help of the Jedi from the past, she finally killed Palpatine, ending his reign of terror once and for all. She then rejected her lineage and chose to adopt the Skywalker surname, in honor of those she truly loves and consider family.
She was portrayed by Daisy Ridley, and by Cailey Fleming as a child.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Despite her very rough life, she is kind and compassionate. She is more than able to empathize with others, to the point that she even falls in love with an enemy, Kylo Ren, and tries to bring him to the light, which she eventually succeeds in.
- She is clearly always rejecting the dark side and fighting for the light side of the Force. While she is often tempted by the dark side (such as when she goes to the mirror cave of Ahch-To, when she is reluctant to refuse Kylo's proposals to join him and later when she tries to isolate herself out of fear of being corrupted), these are simply moments of self-doubt and desperation to find answers, a sense of belonging and love.
Forces of Destiny[]
- She cleaned out the nose of a Happabore by getting out the junk stuck in it. She also did it at the risk of her speeder. She ended up befriending the Happabore afterwards and together they push back Unkar Plutt's speeder to him.
- She saves Teedo after an Imperial cruiser shipwreck started to collapse.
- She gave a hungry Night Worm some junk to eat.
- She helps Chewbacca and Finn remove the tracker Unkar Plutt planted on the Millennium Falcon that was about to detonate.
- She defends herself and Finn from incoming snowtroopers.
The Force Awakens[]
- When she met a droid named BB-8, she saved him from Teedo, despite having no reason to as she didn't even know him.
- She befriended BB-8 after finding it. From then on, she protected BB-8 and even rejected a much higher number of meals than she usually gains when Unkar Plutt offers her them in exchange for the droid.
- While she interrogated Finn out of suspicions, it was only because she thought he was a thief. Later, she befriends him and once she learns who he really is, she doesn't become angry that he lied about being a member of the Resistance.
- She refused to reveal any relevant information about BB-8 and the map to Kylo Ren after being captured.
- When Finn, Han and Chewbacca find her on Starkiller Base, she helps them deactivate the shields so the Resistance members can attack the First Order.
- To avenge Han Solo, she fought Kylo Ren on Starkiller Base and was able to beat him.
- She and Leia comforted each other about Han's death.
- She went to the planet where Luke was hiding to convince him to help the Resistance.
The Last Jedi[]
- She refused to accept Luke's beliefs that the Jedi legacy was only of failure and wanted to keep fighting.
- In the third lesson, when she hears from Luke that the Lanais' village is being attacked, she immediately runs holding the lightsaber to fight the invaders and save the village, but then she finds out that it was a lie and Luke was just testing her.
- Despite everything, she allowed herself to empathize with Kylo Ren, especially after learning what happened to him, and how Luke tried to kill him.
- She tried to make Luke see the error of his ways regarding how he treated Ben.
- After Luke refused to help the Resistance, she put her hope on Ben Solo.
- She tried multiple times to bring Kylo to the light and refused to believe there was no hope for him. She even risks herself by going to the Mega-class Star Dreadnought Supremacy alone to confront Snoke and redeem Kylo Ren.
- She refused to reveal Luke's location to Snoke, who only discovered it after torturing her and entering her mind with the Force.
- After Kylo refused to kill Rey and killed Snoke, tricking and betraying him, she and Kylo fought Snoke's guards, who attempted to avenge his death.
- After Kylo revealed the truth about her parents and asked her to join him, she refused to accept his hand while he was still on the dark side. Instead, she tried to redeem him, albeit initially failing.
- After she and Kylo are knocked out by the explosion on the Supremacy, she wakes up first but decides not to kill him while he is unconscious. Instead, she chooses to believe that Ben Solo will come back someday on his own terms and then simply escapes the First Order Mega-Destroyer.
- She used her Force powers to allow the Resistance survivors to escape from Crait.
- She and Leia comforted each other over Luke's death, the future of the Resistance and Kylo Ren's refusal to return to the light.
The Rise of Skywalker[]
- She trained her Jedi abilities for an entire year so she'd have a better chance against the First Order.
- She informed Leia about the Sith wayfinders needed to find Exegol, where Palpatine and the Sith Eternal were building the Final Order, the largest fleet the galaxy has ever known, then went on a journey to find them. On the ruins of the second Death Star, she eventually finds one (which is destroyed by Kylo) and another in Kylo's TIE whisper (which she steals from Kylo).
- She healed a vexis snake on Pasaana.
- She tried to free Chewbacca when the First Order kidnapped him and felt remorse when she thought she killed him, though he survived as he was in another transporter.
- When she sensed through the Force that Chewbacca was alive, she and her companions went to rescue him.
- While she did mortally wound Kylo with his own lightsaber, she felt remorse and healed him with the Force. In the novel, she later tells Luke she was willing to give all her life force and die if she needed to do it in order to heal Kylo. Also, this act helps Kylo free himself from the dark side influence, thus Rey helped him to come back to the light side.
- Her wish of exiling herself was for a good reason: it was out of fear, remorse and self-doubt rather than selfishness. And after talking with Luke, she chose to keep fighting to save the galaxy.
- In the Battle of Exegol, she and Ben Solo fought Palpatine, and, with help from the past Jedi, she sacrificed herself by using the remainder of her strength to kill the Sith Lord by deflecting his own Force lightning, ending his countless atrocities in the galaxy for good.
- At the very end of the saga, she rejected her Palpatine lineage and adopted the Skywalker surname, allowing their legacy to live on and honoring the name of those she loved and truly considered her family.
- She embarks on a quest to finally restore the Jedi Order.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She is short-tempered and very wrathful, leading her to often act on impulse. This might make her even look like a jerk during a couple of times she explodes and argues with her friends or allies. Despite this, she is mostly a caring person.
- She can be lethal at times, such as attempting to kill Kylo Ren upon meeting him despite knowing nothing about him, simply because he was of First Order, as well as trying to do it again in moments he is defenseless such as after knocking him down in their duel on Starkiller Base (although the novel shows her being influenced by a voice in her head (likely Snoke or Palpatine) telling her to kill Kylo in this scene). She also immediately tries to kill him as soon as she sees him in their first Force connection and when he becomes distracted during their duel on the ruins of the second Death Star.
- She is also always the one who draws her lightsaber first in duels and starts the fights against Kylo, attacking him when he still didn't draw his weapon and at the times when he is not showing any hostility towards her. In the novel, when she starts to fight him inside the ruins of the second Death Star, she even becomes irritated because she realizes that Kylo doesn't want to fight her as he initially doesn't grab his lightsaber and just keeps dodging from her attacks.
Trivia[]
- She is the only Star Wars Near Pure Good to come from the sequels, as well as the most admirable character from them.
- Although she is currently Near Pure Good, there is a chance that her status may change since she is confirmed to return in the upcoming Star Wars trilogy.
