Rex is the main protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and one of the main protagonists in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, he is Pyra and Mythra, as well as Pneuma's Driver, he is devoted to protecting them, and together with Pyra and Mythra, he goes on a quest to find her long-lost home, Elysium.
He is voiced by Hiro Shimono in Japanese, who also voiced Zenitsu Agatsuma. In English, he was voiced by Al Weaver in the second game and Fergus O'Donnell in the third.

- He had a tragic backstory, his parents died by unknown causes, leaving him as an orphan, but despite of that, Rex was optimistic and knew how to move on. This goes to show that Rex is a fantastic role model who is admired by all his friends. However, he still remembers and miss his parents, and despite his optimism, deep down he was suffering.
- After his parents' death, Rex was raised by Corinne, and he grew to care and love her, even viewing her as his family.
- When he was living in Fonsett Village, Rex began to get along very well with the villagers there, according to the stories that Azurda talked about him, Rex sometimes helped the villagers if they got into trouble.
- He never hates his enemies and even talks to them with mercy, kindness and compassion. This shows that Rex doesn't even consider his enemies to be enemies.
- When he began to work as a Salvager, he trades and make money to send to the village, showing how much he cares for his people.
- When he was about to joining Torna, despite he was attacked by Malos just to see Rex's skills, Rex didn't hold a grudge on him.
- Despite when he met Nia and other scenes later, he had a mutual mocking with her, but afterwards she and Rex will get along very well and care for each other.
- Before learning their true intentions, Rex cared for Malos and Jin, he praised the former for his skills and when Rex that Jin got injured, he asked him if he was okay.
- After Jin killed him, Rex met Pyra, and despite only having just met her, he immediately trusts her and when she told him that she wants to go to Elysium, he made the promise that he will take her there.
- Before being revived by Pyra, Rex got worried about the Salvagers who were in the place, since he already knew Jin and Malos' true colors, he feared that they would kill them.
- After reviving, he with Pyra battled against Malos and Sever, thanks to that he managed that the Salvagers who were at their escape.
- During his battle, after Nia and Dromarch sided with him, and when she was thrown out by a blast, he jumped and grab her, saving her.
- After the battle, he got worried about Azurda, Dromarch and Nia. When he found Azurda injured, he got worried and when he allegedly dies, Rex cries with grief and shredding tears. However, when Azurda appeared alive, just in a small form, while Rex was angry about how he saw him crying, he was happy and glad that he was alive.
- He wanted to find Nia, and when he did, he helped her and Dromarch on defeating a Brog.
- During the battle against Brighid, when Nia and Dromarch got captured, Rex refused to leave them behind, despite that Azurda and Nia herself told him to escape.
- After Tora saved him, Pyra and Azurda from Brighid, Rex was grateful for his help.
- When Tora told him that he wanted to make friends, also telling him that he wanted to be his sidekick, Rex didn't like that Tora being considered a simple sidekick, and instead he asked to be friends.
- When Rex hearded the rumor that Nia and Dromarch can be executed after being captured, he got worried and started to think a plan of how to save them, when they showed him a map, Rex planned to make a full-on attack, but after Pyra told him that doing so could put everyone in danger, Rex understood, apologized and decided not to.
- He praised Tora on that he created Poppi.
- He alongside Pyra, Tora and Poppi, successfully rescued Dromarch and Nia.
- He battled Mòrag and Brighid, in order to protect Pyra, also he stated that Pyra is more than just the Aegis or a weapon, that in fact she is a living being.
- He didn't want to battle Mòrag, and for that, he flees with the others from the battle, planning to take down a water tank to weaken Brighid, in order to escape.
- He manages to convince Nia not to go back to Torna, informing her about the promise he made to Pyra and adding that he recognizes that he is not strong enough and that he needs her by his side.
- He manages to make Nia trust him, and thanks to that Nia begins to change and stop hating everyone.
- He fought Vandham, since he thought that Vandham wanted to take Pyra.
- After the fight and realizing that Vandham did not have malicious intentions, Rex started to have fond on him.
- He battled Ahkos and Obrona, for protect Pyra and prevent they kill Nia for leaving Torna.
- He, despite his presentation, however he alongside his party fought him, after Zeke challenged them.
- He joined Pyra to face a Domko who forcibly took the rations of Iona, even Rex calls him out for what he did.
- When Pyra gone alone to rescue Iona from Malos and Ahkos, he alongside the party go to rescue them.
- He saved Pyra from being attacked Malos again.
- He told Vandham to take Iona from where they were fighting Malos and Ahkos.
- He fought Ahkos, also he asked him why Torna want to take Pyra.
- After Malos, Ahkos, Sever and Obrona almost knocked out Nia, Tora, Dromarch and Poppi, he got angered and tried to attack them, despite just to being hurt by Sever.
- When Vandham started to fight Malos and Akhos and he told Rex to flee, he refused to leave him behind.
- He was horrified by Vandham's death and tried to attack Malos to avenge his death.
- When Mythra awakened, Rex with her, managed to defeat Malos and Ahkos, and killing Sever and Obrona in the process.
- After the end of the battle, Rex started to cry for Vandham's death.
- During Vandham's funeral, after Mythra took control and berated Rex harshly for making her wake up, Rex accepted the blame, also telling her that she only wanted to protect her and Pyra.
- When Pyra apologizes for Mythra's reprimand, Rex wasn't angry or hurt at her, telling her and also Mythra to not feel guilty, adding that Mythra's words were not without merit.
- After he reawakened Roc, since he didn't remember Vandham, his previous driver, he asked Rex was Vandham like, and he tell him, that he was strong, kind and that he saved his life, showing that Rex stills respects Vandham and he was so saddened by his death.
- He, alongside the others, fought Lila, after she was taking down some soldiers.
- When he and his party were reunited with Mòrag, and when they mistook Poppi for Lila, who attacked the soldiers, Rex tried to reason with Mòrag.
- He fought Mòrag, Rex at one point in the fight, told Mòrag to drop her weapon and when he holds back and Mòrag call him out for it, he told her that he doesn't want to fight her.
- When the misunderstanding about Poppi was cleared and after Mòrag apologized for attacking them, Rex tells her that she doesn't need to apologize since no one got hurt at the end.
- When Mòrag offered an alliance, watching the others agreeing, Rex happily accepted and even shake their hands.
- He managed Mòrag to change, making her to become less cold and more friendly.
- When Tora was reunited with his father and they hugged, Rex felt happy for him, and when Mythra was crying seeing this, he hands her a handkerchief.
- He alongside Tora and the party defeated the Terkin send by Muimui.
- When was revealed that Bana was the one who send Muimui to capture Tatazo and forcing him to make artificial blades and he was aware of Torna's true nature, Rex was angry on learning that.
- He fought Patroka and Mikhail, protecting Mythra from being taken and Nia from being killed.
- He trusted Mòrag and Brighid, despite the things that they do earlier, and also cheer up Nia to trust them when she was hesitant to be friends with them.
- When he and the party go to the Fonsett Village, he was happy to meet again with Corinne.
- He visited the graves of his parents, telling them that he became a driver, where he reveals that Pyra is his partner who always works together with him on his adventures. Rex also tells his parents that he is going to take his partner to Elysium.
- When he encountered Zeke again, while Rex like the others they didn't take him seriously, after he showed his power, Rex and the party fight him.
- When he was fighting Zeke, Rex praised his skills and powers.
- He got startled after Zeke fell.
- He cared for Fan la Norne and it's implied that he was in love with her.
- His optimism has led to the change of some characters:
- Pyra and Mythra were both tragic. However, unlike Rex, they were suicidal and wanted to travel back to Elysium to be killed. Rex finds out about their tragic pasts and encourages them to move on, which causes Pyra and Mythra to be happy to be alive and awaken Pneuma, their true form.
- Initially, Nia hated the world and thought that everyone was selfish. However, thanks to inspiration from Rex, Nia later has a change of heart and starts to change her view on life.
- He was respectful to Amalthus before learning his true colors and despite sensing that he was talking Malos, since he was Malos' Driver before Jin.
- When Mòrag have an argument with Roderich, since she thought that he sent the order to attack Indol, but when come the possibility that Torna could be the ones who gave the attack, while Mòrag was willing to take charge about the affair herself with Brighid and the others from the Empire, Rex convinced her that he and the party can help.
- When he and the party met Jin in Temperantia, and they fought him.
- He was horrified and saddened when Jin killed Fan, and he angrily confront Jin by asking him, why he is doing all those things.
- After Jin escaped with Ahkos, Rex lift Fan's head and was blaming himself for her death and wondering why Jin is like that.
- Attended Fan's funeral, showing respects for her and he was even sad at there.
- He and the party tried to defeat Torna again, but ended in vain since Jin manage to outmatch them and he was about to kill Rex.
- He was sad that Pyra and Mythra were now captured by Torna, and when he wakes up after the battle, Rex was crying out for despair.
- He stayed in the party after being cheer up by Poppi.
- He fought Jin and Malos again, in order to save Pyra and Mythra.
- When he was fighting Jin, Pyra and Mythra thinking that they would only bring suffering to Rex and also revealing that they wanted to go to Elysium to die, Rex refused to leave them, giving them a motivational speech to continue living, this shows how much Rex loved Pyra and Mythra, and thanks to that he would for Pneuma (the ascended form of Pyra and Mythra) to awaken.
- He alongside Pneuma manage to defeat Jin by matching his speed.
- When he and Mythra found Jin defending himself, Rex and Mythra saved him, and when he was injured, he asks Mythra to heal him, despite the fact that Jin was their enemy.
- He was willing to defend Jin when Amalthus arrived and killed Patroka and Akhos.
- He fought Malos and finally defeated him.
- After Malos got defeated, Rex is seen sad while watching Malos dying, also asking himself if something would have changed if he was his driver.
- When he discovered that the only way to stop the World Tree from collapsing is by using the last of Aion's power, and in the process Pneuma would have to sacrifice. Rex became desperate and hurt and was trying to find a way to save Pneuma, however Rex would be persuaded to let her sacrifice herself.
- After Pneuma's sacrifice, Rex was surprised to see Pyra and Mythra again, also they were now separate, and after that he goes to them to reunite.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Initially, Rex started off being cocky, a little rude, stubborn, arrogant, and smugly, however as the story progresses, Rex stops showing those traits, although there are still a few occasions in which he can be rude or smugly.
