Ralph is the main protagonist of Lord of the Flies. He is a cadet lieutenant colonel that intends on being rescued and being a good leader.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?

• He saved the unconscious Captain Benson from drowning in the sea.
• Saved himself and the other cadets from drowning by blowing up a life boat.
• Unlike his other counterparts, he has his leadership role given to him rather than asking for it, and even if he accepts it, he still prioritizes others by saying that what mattered most was that they work together.
• Wanted to get himself, and the other cadets off the deserted island safely, and he wanted everyone to stay as a group.
• Unlike his other counterparts, who slowly grew to appreciate Piggy, this version of Ralph was already shown to care a great deal for him and defends him when Jack and his gang bully him.
• Broke up the fight between Jack and Piggy before it started.
• Was the one to come up with the idea to use Piggy's glasses to light the signal fire.
• Although he did end up causing a raging blaze, Ralph clearly had no intention of doing this, with the fire simply getting out of hand.
• Unlike his other counterparts, Ralph never gives in to his animalistic instincts and does not participate in the brutal murder of Simon.
• Tried to talk sense into Jack and explained how they have got to be one group again.
• Despite letting Simon die to Jack's tribe, Ralph showed nothing but remorse for letting this happen and didn't even try to justify himself when Piggy tried to come up with excuses.
• When Jack and his gang stole Piggy's glasses, Ralph proceeded to confront him, demanding that he give them back.
• Tried to convince Sam and Eric to rebel against Jack's tribe, and though they didn't leave Jack's gang, they were clearly moved by Ralph's words as they would go on to not reveal Ralph's location in the final act of the film.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?

• He can be wrathful and jerkish at times, such as when he blew up at Jack for letting the signal fire go out, and though this is mostly justified, he still could've gone about it in a better way.
• He can be a little forceful at times, such as when he took Piggy's glasses by force despite the other not giving him explicit permission to do so.

Trivia

• He is currently the only Lord of the Flies character to be Near Pure Good.
