“ | I've always been the queen who stays behind. Micah was the brave one. And then Glimmer... Oh, Glimmer. So much like her father. And once again I stayed behind, letting her make the hard choices, letting her be brave for me. I told myself I was being responsible, but, Adora, I was just scared. And then I met you. You inspired us. You inspired me. Not because it was your destiny, but because you never let fear stop you. And now I choose to be brave. | „ |
~ Angella before sacrificing herself |
Queen Angella is a major character in DreamWorks She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, serving as a major character in season 1, a minor character in season 2, a supporting character in season 3, and the overarching protagonist for the rest of the series. She was the wife of King Micah and the mother of Glimmer, who was co-founder/leader of the Rebellion after the (supposed) death of her husband over a decade ago. She remained the queen of Bright Moon and leader of the rebellion before both roles were taken over by her daughter Princess (later Queen) Glimmer following her sacrifice halfway through the show.
She was voiced by Reshma Shetty.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- She founded the Rebellion with her husband to fight against the Horde and after his death, she solely led the Rebellion for over a decade to liberate Etheria even when the Princess Alliance fell apart as all the other princesses abandoned the fight.
- She took Glimmer to recharge when she collapsed.
- She accepted Adora/She-Ra into the Rebellion even though Adora used to be a Horde soldier and agreed to let Adora stay in Bright Moon.
- She ordered a mission to give food and humanitarian aid to Plumeria which was under siege from the Horde and agreed to let Adora go with Glimmer and Bow to deliver the aid and defend if the Horde attacks.
- She agreed to let Glimmer go to the Kingdom of Salineas to continue her recruitment mission to reform the Princess Alliance by recruiting Princess Mermista.
- She was willing to surrender herself to the Horde so that they will return Glimmer back from captivity.
- She hugged Glimmer for a long time after she had been rescued from the Horde and ordered guards to take Glimmer to recharge.
- She repeatedly tried to get Glimmer to open up to her following her kidnapping/rescue and ordered a special dinner made for her and Glimmer so they could be alone and talk and gave the kitchen staff the day off for their efforts.
- Although her relationship with her daughter started off a little strained due to their disagreements over strategy, once Glimmer told her everything that happened to her and lost hope and felt like a failure due to Entrapta’s supposed death and the collapse of the New Princess Alliance, she told Glimmer how she was the true failure for letting the old alliance fall apart and not fighting to save it and that Glimmer was right that they had to keep fighting. She inspired Glimmer to not lose hope and keep fighting and that the Princess Alliance wasn’t done at all with Glimmer leading it, hugging her daughter and reconciling with her along with promising Glimmer they would figure out how to restore her powers.
- She let and officially sanctioned Glimmer and Bow go out to look for Adora, reminding Glimmer that she didn’t want Glimmer to have the same regrets of not fighting before like she did.
- She gave Glimmer Micah’s staff to defend Bright Moon with.
- She protected the Moonstone to keep Etheria from falling into darkness and complete chaos from the Horde and repelled several Horde attacks and strengthened the Moonstone’s power once Adora used the Sword of Protection to restore balance to all the runestones.
- She imprisoned Shadow Weaver when she infiltrated Bright Moon and doubled the perimeter guard and triple the guard around the Moonstone to find out how Shadow Weaver got into Bright Moon.
- Even when Shadow Weaver told her and Castaspella that she would only talk to Adora, Angella refused to bring Adora to her because she didn't want Adora to be manipulated and hurt by Shadow Weaver.
- She figured out Shadow Weaver was dying and felt sympathy for her.
- In the alternate/illusion world, she was playing with Glimmer and remembered the past and realized this reality wasn’t real, going to help Adora, Glimmer, and Bow to fix reality.
- She saved Adora from being erased from existence.
- She sacrificed herself to save reality by pulling out the Sword of Protection to close the unstable vortex and preventing Adora from making the sacrifice and telling Adora that her and Glimmer need to take care of each other.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- Initially, she could be rather cold and controlling particularly towards Glimmer and Adora. She treated Adora harshly when she first came to Bright Moon and got angry at Adora’s unintentional mistake of sitting in Micah’s chair and while she accepted Adora, she made it clear she did so because of her daughter’s trust in Adora. While she lost most of controlling and cold traits and warmed up to Adora as well as apologizing and reconciling with Glimmer, she still retained some of her controlling traits albeit with good intentions.
- She acted like a jerk towards her sister-in-law Castaspella, sarcastically telling her it was a “shame” she didn’t join the previous Princess Alliance and ignoring her when she tried to respond. She also apparently never wrote back or responded to Castaspella’s letters when Castaspella is away from Bright Moon and leading Mysticore. She even justified it afterwards.
Trivia[]
- She, her daughter and Perfuma, are the only three She-Ra and the Princesses of Power heroes to be Near Pure Good.
