~ Adelaide to Sofia |
Queen Adelaide is the main antagonist of the webcomic Tales of Kingdom.
A peasent girl made ruler of Amvril after a revolution in the Kingdom, Adelaide fights for equality and the protection of her kingdom. Cold and stern, but caring and a good person beneath, Adelaide is also an extremely powerful Esper: people who, through manipulation of psychic energy, have superpowers.
She is the childhood best friend and former archenemy of the comic's main protagonist, Lord Edegard.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
Background[]
- She participated in a revolution to take Amvirl back from a tyrant king who the population heavily disliked.
- When tasked with killing the King's son, Edegard, who was her friend, she spared him and told him to go away.
- She, still in a young age, defeated a hulking Heplite robot, a destructive machine that endangered the whole kingdom.
- While she clearly has some predescribed notion against born-royals, she doesn't have any prejudice against them, only the arrogant and tyrant ones, as seen in her relationship with Sofia, who she shows respect and cooperation despite her being of royal blood.
Tales of a Kingdom[]
- Despite Edegard often voicing his intent to overthrow her, and her clearly being annoyed by the attempts, she does nothing other than blasting him away considerably harmlessly.
- She investigated when someone, later revealed to be Edegard, was taking Heplite robot pieces, potentially ready to make a new one.
- Durining a duel to test Princess Sofia's character, she forfeits once it is clear she is geniune in her intents, and makes a deal to help her kingdom.
- While she tried to arrest Alice and Winston, it is because they, even if accidentally, are trespassing into her office, and she has to make sure Edegard cannot be a threat.
- She desperately warns her soldiers not to shoot at Alice, and then to grab Alice when she falls, showing she does not wish for unecessary deaths even on enemies.
- Brings Sofia for a tour and parade around the kingdom in order to atone for requesting a brutal duel earlier in order to test her.
- She immediatelly orders evacuation of the kingdom once Prince Gregory and his goons come to crash into the parade, in order to bring Adelaide, a "false queen" (peasent) down.
- Defeats Gregory and most of his allies. While she resorts to a lethal method against one of them, the situation makes it justified.
- While too far, her trying to kill Edegard once she had confirmation of his intention to use the Heplite in the final battle against her is well intentioned, as a Heplite is capable of unprecendent death and destruction, and she has PTSD from fighting one years ago.
- She tries to hold Edegard's robot back even though she is at the limits of her Esper power, preventing it from moving closer to the kingdom.
- Once the battle is over, she, motivated by Alice's words, talks to Edegard, discussing everything with him, ending the cycle of revenge and miscommunication that made them mortal enemies for years.
- She also apologizes to Alice, subverting any of her coldness towards her
- Utimately pardons Edegard, since no one got hurt. When he, over the top as always, claims he is finally back at the throne room, as "Law abiding citzen Edegard", Adelaide warmly smiles, showing their relationship to be reconciled at last.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She has a cold and jerkish personality, which makes sense since her background does make her a cynical person, but is still taken too far. While she nevers harms him too much, she still blasts Edegard away and never tries to talk to her once best friend in order to sort things out, with the narrative making it clear she is just as much to blame for their miscommunication problems as Edegard. Her condesecing nature towards Sofia at the start is also an example.
- She can be too brutal or violent, such as fighting a match against Princess Sofia in which she ragdolled and hurt the Princess many times. Even if she apologized, it still counts.
