Ooof... I sure take a lot of knocks in this line of work. I'm getting too old for this ghost-catching tomfoolery. Anyway, nice to meet you. I'm Professor E. Gadd.
~ E. Gadd's first interaction with Luigi

Professor E. Gadd is a major character in the Super Mario franchise, serving as the deuteragonist of Luigi's Mansion spin-off series.

He is an eccentric but brilliant inventor, considered the brightest of the Mushroom kingdom, with one of his specialties being ghost hunting. Many of the inventions of the series can be traced back to him, and he also serves as Luigi's mentor and greatest ally in his adventures against King Boo in the Luigi's Mansion series.

He is voiced by the Japanese composer, Kazumi Totaka, who also voices Yoshi in the same series of games.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • It is implied he already tried to stop King Boo before the first Luigi's Mansion game, as some of his troops are seen imprisoned in paintings.
  • He saves Luigi upon seeing him being attacked by a ghost.
  • After learning that Mario was captured by the Boos, he immediately agrees to help Luigi rescue his brother.
  • He supports Luigi through the entirety of his quest, tutoring him on how to use the equipment such as the Poltergust 3000.
  • Upon defeating King Boo, he uses the collected money to make a mansion for Luigi. He also restores Mario back to his corporeal form, using his machine in reverse to get Mario out of his painting.
  • He helps Luigi restore the Dark Moon by once again providing him equipment and tutoring him on its usage. Not only that, he directly aided Luigi by transporting him to where he needed to go, giving him information and informing him where the ghosts are, being pivotal to stop King Boo's omnicide.
  • He provides Luigi with a new Ghost sucking weapon as well as Gooigi, his new partner, to help him throughout the Hunted Hotel while he tries to find and release his friends.
  • He helped the heroes make a new hotel for the ghosts since theirs was destroyed in the battle with King Boo.
  • He helped Mario and Luigi during their quest in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, by sending them Stuffwell, a sentient suitcase, and Hydrogush 4000, which helped stop a volcano.
  • He helped cure all those who were shroobfied in the past.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He has mischievous moments, such as laughing at Luigi being scared after being teleported through the Pixelator.
  • He is also careless and takes some reckless decisions from time to time, such as selling King Boo's painting on a garage sale and supposedly giving Bowser Jr. his magic paintbrush, technically making him indirectly responsible for the events of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Super Mario Sunshine.
