Near Pure Good Hero Wiki

It's tough to get adjusted to a new place. Everything about my life is totally different now, and I'm only just starting to figure out where I fit in, or how I fit in. I mean, don't get me wrong, I want the full "other" experience, but I also want everyone to know how great my home is. I want every other to see a glowing moon that never sets, and hear the sound of fairy lights rustling through the treetops, and know the feeling of magic in the air. I never thought I'd miss the little things most of all, but... if I'm gonna be [in the human world] for a short time, then I'm gonna bring some more magic to the other world.
~ Astral's crystal speech at the beginning of "Where There's Smoke".
When I was little, I was so excited about being a princess. I thought my life was going to be all gowns, and fancy balls, and handsome princes. But with privilege comes the responsibility to defend those who can't defend themselves. You have to sacrifice on own wants for the needs of many. A true princess puts others before herself. I'm responsible for Athenia.
~ Astral's crystal speech at the end of "Cliff Anger".
When I first came [to the human world], I thought I was coming for Tristan, and that I would have to change for him to like me. But that's not true, being myself is the best gift I can give someone. With your friends, you can do anything. We saved Athenia today, and if that's not a reason to party, I don't know what is.
~ Astral's crystal speech at the end of "The Great Escape".

Princess Astral of Athenia often referred to as Princess Astral or just simply Astral is the main protagonist of the short-lived Nickelodeon fantasy sitcom, The Other Kingdom. She's the princess of Athenia who gets curious about the human life in the "other" world (and falls in love with a teenage "other" named Tristan) and decides to travel to the human world for the full experience. While having to choose between whether to stay in the human world forever, or return home and become Athenia's newest queen, after 90 days.

She was portrayed by Esther Zynn.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • Back in Athenia, she's one of the only inhabitants who doesn't hold a distrust against humans or "others" as they call them.
  • During a secret viewing over Theseus High as a sprite, she saves Tristan from getting hurt from a dangerous gymnastics trick (without being spotted)
  • She cares for and respects her parents (the king and queen) and the inhabitants of her kingdom, despite them not always sharing her views about "others".
  • In the human world, she tries to help Devon with finding a girl to go to the dance with him, by charming three girls with different personalities into falling in love with him
  • Growing up in the nature-themed kingdom of Athenia, she's often been shown to care about plants and animals so much, she treats them as individual beings, and can even communicate fluently with them. She even became a vegetarian.
    • She and Morgan recused a group of frogs from getting dissected in a science lab -- although they got sent to the principal's office for it.
    • She's shown to have a vast knowledge on different types of plant life and tends to put it to good use. She even got hired to be a part-time botanist due to her vast knowledge, and being a "plant whisperer"
  • She feels bad for sneaking out of a study session, accidently starting a food fight and getting Morgan, Tristan and Devon and trouble with her, and even apologizes for what she's done, and takes the blame for everything.
  • When Versitude shows up at Astral's school and rightfully calls her out for nearly exposing their ways with her cold, Versitude would joke about leaving mouse-transformed-Tristan to be exterminated, only for Astral to beg her to not bring Tristan any harm as he was innocent to which Versitude would grant him mercy.
  • Upon first realizing Devon's father had plans for a biological research center in Evermoor Woods -- the same woods her homeland Athenia secretly resided -- she tries to talk him into building the center somewhere else, without bring up her fairy heritage or her land.
  • She goes to her homeland entrance to warn her parents (the king and queen) about the upcoming destruction of their homeland, and when she's ordered to return to Athenia, rather than follow orders, she decides to stay in the human world and fight for her kind's safety saying: "A princess of Athenia doesn't run at the first sight of danger, she stays and fights." This showcases just how dedicated she is over looking after her kind, even with the odds against her.
  • She, Morgan and Brendoni would sneak into Mr. Quince's workplace, and after Astral charms two of the council workers in an attempt to hold the meeting off, Brendoni would lock Mr. Quince in a bathroom stall when he has to use the restroom, and the three of them (mainly Astral) would talk to the council with Astral in particular giving a heartfelt speech about how the relationship between nature and humanity had evolved over the years, but they still need nature. This would actually touch the council, getting them to rethink the construction plan and eventually turn it down.
  • When Devon finds about Astral intentionally getting his father's project turned down, and gets upset with her and Morgan over it, Astral insisted that she only did so because she had no other choice, and would even reveal her true fairy form to him and inform him that thousands of lives were at stake. Plus, she still understood Devon's upset feelings and sympathize with him.
  • Even though she ends up letting her newly formed competitive side get the best of her in dodgeball (more on that in "Preventions"), she later realizes just what harm she's done and steps down from the game, losing on purpose, not wanting to hurt anyone else.
  • When her father King Oberon turns up at the Quince house to face Peter Quince (his brother) and states his son Devon would grow up to follow in his footsteps (of being a polluter and harming nature), Astral defends Devon, saying it was unfair for him to be judged based on his father's actions, especially knowing he didn't want to harm anything intentionally.
  • After finding out Mr. Quince's research center was being reconsidered and her homeland was once again in danger, she decides to bring back pleasant memories of the wonders of nature as another attempt to get Mr. Quince to change his mind about destroying her homeland.
    • And when that doesn't work, Astral recognizes how Mr. Quince/Petrithon had left Athenia due to romantic feelings he gained on a human woman, and how mortals couldn't be rulers of the kingdom, and how she passed away not long after they married in the human world leaving him heartbroken. So, then she'd charm him and Principal Williams into falling in love in an attempt to console him enough to convince him to back down from the project. Although, once again the plan would backfire. Though Astral would still show sympathy for Mr. Quince's loss even after everything he's done.
  • Upon being forced to make a good impression with the snobbish and arrogant Spartanian prince Cliff and later marry him in order for Cliff's father to allow the Athenians to evacuate to Spartania before the destruction, she tolerates Cliff's smug behavior and tries to talk him down, and was perfectly willing to get married to Cliff, despite clearly not liking his callousness and arrogance. This is yet another example of Astral placing her people's needs and safety before her own, which her own mother would respect. Although Astral's parents would call the deal off and send the Spartanians away, not wanting Astral to be forced into marriage.
  • She, Morgan and Devon would start a rally to save Evermoor Woods from destruction and place a viral video online encouraging a large group of people to join them in forming a human chain to block the bulldozer, in the process saving Athenia from destruction.
  • She runs directly in front of a bulldozer in order to help Devon (stuck in a magic box) and protect him from getting harmed, even pushing him out of the way. Although she herself would get stuck in a tree branch and put herself in danger. This is what convinces Mr. Quince to back out of the project.
  • Upon finding out her boyfriend Tristan, was actually the long-lost fairy prince of her rival kingdom Spartania destined to bring harm to their land (though maybe not, considering "the lost prince" was never stated to be Tristan specifically), rather than get angry at him or break up with him, she tries to defend him and encourage him to not go through with the conquering; especially since Tristan didn't even know about his heritage prior to being told and certainly didn't want to return to Spartania or bring harm to anyone.
  • Tends to see the good in various people and never truly hates anyone (except maybe Spartanians), not even control freak/love rival Hailey Grimm, or Peter Quince -- who wanted to destroy her homeland.
  • Personality wise, she's a warm-hearted, well-intentioned, friendly and loving girl, and she's never dishonest about anything.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Even though she has a good heart and never actively tries to harm anyone, she still has her fair share of mischievous moments where she causes trouble and doesn't always think her plans through. (including her schemes to get close to Tristan). Though considering she typically feels remorse over this, it's only a minor prevention.
    • She once put a spell Devon so the latter would see Astral when he looked at Oswald and she could sneak to have fun, even though she was supposed to be studying geography.
    • One notable standout was the time she got her cousin Brendoni to create a potion that would make Tristan fall in love with her. Though she later regrets this due to the spell going overboard and has him do a antidote.

Trivia[]

  • She is the only Nickelodeon Near Pure Good to be from a live-action series.
  • It was stated in some interviews that the series was meant to run for 4 seasons, and have a graphic novel prequel series. Had the series not been cancelled and the other 3 seasons been released, Astral likely would have been a full Pure Good as she'd shed what little corrupting factors she has, and become even more dedicated to protecting her kind.
