Do a Barrel Roll.
~ Peppy Hare

Peppy Hare is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Slippy Toad) of the Star Fox franchise. He was a member of the original Star Fox consisting of James McCloud and Pigma Dengar, up until the latter betrayed the team and James was presumably killed and Peppy escaped Venom to let Fox know what happened to his father. Eventually, Fox would assemble a new Star Fox team, consisting of Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad and Peppy.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • When Peppy Hare was in the original Star Fox team, he went with both James and Pigma to investigate strange happenings on Venom, which was Andross doing his typical unethical experiments which leads to Pigma betraying them. Considering that Peppy returned alone, it is heavily implied that James was killed which he couldn't do anything about it, and he tells Fox what happened to him.
  • Because Fox no longer has a father in his life, he became his father figure in James's stead.
  • When the new Star Fox team was being assembled, Peppy was considered a potential candidate for the leadership role given he is already highly experienced, but he insisted that Fox be the leader instead and took on the role as the advisor of the team who gives valuable advice and keeping the team in line, like scolding Slippy when he starts getting too reckless.
  • Even when he doesn't have as much of an active role in Adventures, Peppy still helps a little bit by taking on the role of studying the maps and the history on Sauria and helping grant Fox much needed guidance when he asks for it.
  • In Assault, he acts as the navigator of the Great Fox alongside ROB during the Aparoid Invasion, considering that he is bordering on old age, it wouldn't do him any good to take on the same active role with the team like he used to.
  • When General Pepper was infected and forced to fight his best allies while ending up being defeated, Peppy takes it upon himself to use his Arwing to slow his fall even though it ended up getting himself hurt in the process.
  • When they were invading the Aparoid Homeworld, Peppy frequently told them how proud he is of them, and it has been an honor to guide and fight alongside them, this foreshadows his sacrifice in case he doesn't make it alive, because the Great Fox was becoming assimilated by the Aparoids with himself and ROB being at the very early stages of infection, along with an impenetrable shield to deal with, Peppy was willing to put his life on the line to force the entrance open to allow the team to head on to the Aparoid Homeworld's interior without him where the Aparoid Queen was waiting for them.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Peppy is shown to be somewhat short-tempered in some media, where he's often annoyed at his teammates, like when they have conflicting priorities, which can make him a bit of a nag. Even when he is reasonably strict with the rest of the team, like when Slippy leaves a room messy or gets himself into trouble, he can end up blowing up at a moment's notice, and it is especially shows in the animated short of Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins, where he yells at the team for typical minor mishaps and even lashes out at Fox and Falco for innocently being weirded out by the fact that his lucky charm is made from General Pepper's fur, which is a bit petty. In Star Fox: Farewell, Beloved, Falco, a manga set between 64 and Adventures, after Fox is unexpectedly attacked by Falco, who apparently defected to Andross's army, and is forced to knock him out in a dogfight, Peppy furiously scolds Fox for what happened, not knowing of the context of everything until he and Slippy explain the suspicious situation to him.
  • He has some minor jerk moments such as him calling his teammates fools in Assault when they were clearly in shock from the fact that he was going to sacrifice himself. While it was a good reason for them to hurry up since there wouldn't be any other way to break the shield open again considering the fact that the Great Fox would be destroyed, he didn't necessarily have to be so harsh about it.
