“ | Hi, I'm Oscar. You might think you know, but you have NO IDEA. | „ |
~ Oscar's beginning quote in the film. |
“ | Nobody loves a nobody! I want to be a somebody! | „ |
~ Oscar expressing his goal in life. |
“ | Stop! I AM NOT A REAL SHARKSLAYER!!!! | „ |
~ Oscar’s screaming breakdown as he reveals to the public that he lied about Frankie’s death, and his most famous quote. |
Oscar is the main protagonist of DreamWorks' 9th full-length animated feature film Shark Tale.
He is a deluded, prideful, cool, street-talking rainbow tropical fish, who dreams of fame and fortune, and in order to achieve his goal, he fibs, saying that he slaughtered Frankie, the son of Don Lino and older brother of Lenny, which makes him the famous Sharkslayer.
He was voiced by Will Smith who also played Agent J in the Men In Black franchise.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While he started out with several corrupting factors such as arrogance, rudeness, egotism, hedonism, and lying about killing a shark in order to gain fame and fortune, he subverted all of them in the end when he confessed his lie to everyone and apologized to Angie for not noticing her feelings for him at first and became much nicer.
- When he was a kid, he wanted to be a tongue-scrubber like his late father, Earl and brought his work to school for show-and-tell, only to be mocked by his classmates for it, which explained his insecurities.
- He saved a worker from getting burped out by the whale that he and the others were tongue-scrubbing on. He also washes the soap of the whale's eye to keep it from burning further.
- He repaid Angie by giving back her grandmother's pearl in a necklace.
- He gives Lenny a place to stay in his "house" when he ran away from home.
- He encourages Lenny to be who he is. He also tells Lenny to not blame himself for what happened to Frankie. This shows that while he is a conman he is not using Lenny for fame and fortune.
- He felt great remorse for lying to everyone about killing Frankie when Angie revealed that she had feelings for him before he became famous and called him out on his selfishness and lies.
- He broke up with Lola when he realizes she is a golddigger and buys Angie Valentine's Day gifts to tell her he loves her.
- When he realizes Angie got kidnapped by Don Lino, he goes to the sit down and saves her by having Lenny scoop Angie in his mouth.
- He defeats Don Lino, using the Whale Wash machine.
- He refuses to take credit for defeating Don Lino and confesses his lie about being a "sharkslayer" to everyone and explains that an anchor killed Frankie, not him.
- He helped Lenny and Lino reconcile.
- He apologized to everyone and Angie for lying about being a "sharkslayer" and starting the war between fishes and sharks in the first place and ended the war for good. He also revealed his true feelings to Angie.
- He saves Reef City by making peace with the sharks, creating a place where fish and sharks live together in harmony.
- In Club Oscar, he turns the Whale Wash into a dance club whenever it closes, where anyone can join in and dance, showing that he learns to become more diligent.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite shredding his corrupting factors in the end, he had a few mischievous acts he didn't subvert such as attempting to throw slime at a worker for teasing him when he got covered in slime by the whale's burp and scared an orca by slightly growling at him, making him faint.
- He can be extremely impulsive and reckless as he gambled away his $5000 clam debt money he owes to Sykes on a sea horse race (despite Angie giving him her grandma's pearl for him to get the $5000 clams), though, everyone thought Lucky Day was going to win and he thought there was nothing to worry about. He also makes up for it by repaying Angie and giving her back her grandmother's pearl, so that's a minor prevention.
Trivia[]
- He was originally Inconsistently Admirable due to him being selfish, egotistical, hedonistic, lying about killing Frankie, starting a war between fishes and sharks, and being a overall anti-hero, but later on, it was found out he subverted those corrupting traits by the end of the film since he was incredibly remorseful for his actions and admits he didn't kill Frankie and he is not a sharkslayer and became more altruistic and friendly and less hedonistic and is now approved Near Pure Good.
