Near Pure Good Hero Wiki

Nyah Nordoff-Hall is the deuteragonist of the 2000 spy and action movie, Mission Impossible: II.

She is a highly skilled serial thief and former girlfriend of terrorist and former IMF agent, Sean Ambrose, who wished her back since they broke out. After Sean obtained a cure to a highly dangerous encapsulated virus, and wanted to get the virus itself and use it as a chemical weapon, while blackmailing world leaders with the cure, IMF agent Ethan Hunt is tasked with recruiting Nyah in order to infiltrate Ambrose's base and help them stop his plans.

She was portrayed by Thandie Newton.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • Even as a thief she didn't show any knack for more serious or dangerous crimes, and it is unknown if she knew of Sean's darker business when in relationship with him. She is only a thief because that is what she's been her whole life and she doesn't think she can do any better.
  • She grows attached to Evan when he saves her life, and eventually, though mostly for selfish reasons, agreed to help IMF against Ambrose.
  • She pretended to want to get back with Ambrose, which he largely welcomed, having her into his house, from where she tried to find whatever useful information she could give to the IMF.
  • While she tried to leave Sean's house out of fear of him, which led to him finding out her position as a spy by disgusing himself as Ethan, it was done out of fear and desperation, and once "Ethan"/Sean convinced her to stay at the mission, she did so.
  • After Ambrose forced her to get the last injector of Chimera virus, as he knew Ethan wouldn't shoot her, she injected herself with the virus (that she knew caused a slow and painful death) to prevent it from being useful to Sean.
    • This whole move, that also prevented Sean from shooting her, as he'd lose Chimera if he did, was what allowed Hunt to escape Byosin, as he was sorrounded by Sean's men, and Nyah injecting herself served as both a shiled and a distraction.
  • After she is thrown into a crowded city, basically serving as a human chemical weapon, she got out of there, with Luther and Billy's help, to prevent people from being infected.
  • After she was saved, she got back with Ethan and, although the relationship ended eventually, she is confirmed to still serve as an spy for IMF, showing she is redeemed for good.
  • Even considering the high admirable standarts of the franchise, Nyah stands out for being relatively lacking in resources compared to most characters, with no formal training, high technology gadgets or influence, being just a skilled thief and liar, but also for being important to prevent a breakout of a virus that killed people in horribly painful ways and was about to be mass used by Sean.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Even if she is past her life as a criminal, she still has a considerably jerkish and abrasive temper, an example being when it lead her to yell and lash out at Ethan, who had not being anything but calm and complacent to her up until that point, as well as the fact she is never shown to get over these aspects of her personality, with her simply having no chance to show them in the movie's third act, and her being absent from any of the sequels preventing further development from being fleshed out.

Trivia[]

  • She and Julia Meade-Hunt are the only two Mission Impossible Near Pure Goods. Coincidentally, both happen to be Ethan Hunt's love interest of different movies, who end up being important to the accomplishment of a mission despite their severely limited knowledge and skill compared to most IMF agents.
