“ | I may never have gone to war... but if them f-ckin' Peggies come after my family... I sure as hell will give 'em one. | „ |
~ Nick Rye. |
Nick Rye is a character from the video games Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn, also the protagonist of the Lost on Mars expansion.
A good pilot, and besides his plane, he loves his family very much. He was one of the Protagonist's allies in the fight against the sect Project at Eden's Gate, as well as the only hope for saving the Earth from the sinister artificial intelligence of ANNE and the hostile alien race arachnids.
He was voiced by Steve Byers.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- He loves and cherishes his family very much, in particular his wife Kim and daughter Carmina, and is ready to do everything possible to protect them. He was even going to leave Hope County with them for their own safety, but Kim persuaded him.
- He values friendship very much and is always grateful to those who help him. After all, he became a good ally for the Junior Deputy after his help. He was also willing to help Hurk when he asked for his help, and although he was sometimes rude to him, he still respected him very much as a friend.
- Most of his lethality is justified, since the sectarians are very hostile to him and his family, and open unprovoked fire on them, which is why Nick's lethality is most often self-defense. Also, these sectarians always use cruelty and aggression towards innocent people.
- And although he killed many Arachnid aliens, it was necessary in order to save humanity, not to mention that they were all incorrigible and aggressive monsters.
- Although he started out as a minor ally and a simple assistant to the hero, he was later promoted to the protagonist himself, and it became easy for him to stand out from the other main characters of the series due to the fact that his actions were aimed at saving the whole world.
Far Cry 5[]
- He and his Assistant fought off sectarians who were going to invade his territory.
- He asked the assistant to return his plane from the sectarians, which he inherited from his family.
- He asked the assistant on the plane to destroy the sectarian convoys, as well as their warehouses with a whim, in order to weaken their movements in the region.
- He allowed the assistant to use his plane anyway.
- When Kim went into labor and an assistant took them to the obstetrician, Nick tried to calm Kim down on the way so that she wouldn't be nervous.
- He was very grateful to the Assistant for bringing Kim to the doctor on time, and even wanted him to be the godfather of his born daughter.
- Although he spat in John Seed's face when John offered to cleanse him of his sins, it was justified by the fact that John kidnapped him, and the process of "cleansing from sins" is very painful.
- Even though he was severely wounded, he helped the Assistant defeat John Seed by providing air support to the hero.
- During the final battle with Joseph Seed, he was brainwashed like all the other allies, but after an Assistant brought him to his senses, he and other allies helped him defeat Joseph.
Lost on Mars[]
- Once on Mars with Hurk, he found power modules and restored power to the local terminal, which awakened the artificial intelligence of ANNE, who began to help him and Hurk against the alien race of arachnids.
- He killed the giant Cosmo Crab, taking revenge on him for having once torn apart the Hurk, after which he returned all the body parts to the latter and restored he.
- He destroyed almost all the Arachnid aliens, thereby preventing them from exterminating humanity.
- Upon learning of ANNE's true plans to invade Earth and conquer the entire universe, he immediately destroyed her robots and all portals to prevent them from doing so.
- Although he was angry at Hurk, this is understandable, since Herc forced him to work for ANNE, not knowing about her true plans for Earth. And they also quickly reconciled.
- He persuaded Hurk to sacrifice his body to destroy ANNE, and he did so, thereby destroying ANNE once and for all and preventing her plan to destroy the Earth.
- He expressed sincere sympathy for Hurk, saying that he was unable to restore his body, although Hurk was not really offended by him, and they remained friends.
Far Cry New Dawn[]
- He rebuffed the Highwaymen when they were about to rob his house.
- He began to repair the hydroplane to give it to his daughter for her birthday.
- Although he repaired vehicles for the Highwaymen, he did so strictly under duress and being kidnapped by them, and after his rescue, he was happily reunited with his family.
- He joined the Scavengers squad, which was led by Kim and which fought against the Raiders.
- He admits that he and Kim would like to have more children so that Carmina would have a brother or sister, but because of the current situation, this will not work.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can still be a bit lethal, as he is ready to kill anyone who tries to harm him or his family. He was also going to blow up John Seed on his own plane. Although most often this happens in self-defense, and his aggression towards John is even more than justified (and Nick didn't really have much choice, because Seed could fly away or attack him from the plane himself), so this is a minor prevention.
- He has some prideful traits and provided some jerkish moments here and there:
- He called himself the Lord of Heaven, and even wanted to name his child after himself if a boy was born.
- Apparently, he also happens a little greedy, since John wrote the word "Greed" on his chest as his main sin.
