Nero is the deuteragonist of the Capcom video game franchise Devil May Cry, making his debut appearance in 4 as the main protagonist, and returning to the same role in 5. He is the nephew of legendary Devil Hunter Dante, the son of Vergil and grandson of Sparda.
He is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch in English (who also voices Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach, Vash the Stampede in Trigun, and Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer) and by Kaito Ishikawa in Japanese who voices Tenya Ida.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- He seems to be more mentally and emotionally well-adjusted than his father and uncle.
- Though he shows instances of being power-hungry like his father Vergil, his desire for power is for a better reason. While Vergil mainly wants power just so that he can protect himself and defeat anyone who opposes him, Nero wants power so that he can protect those that he loves.
- He seems to be a pacifist, which is demonstrated when he says he doesn't want to fight Credo in DMC4 when the latter confronted and opted to arrest him under the Order of the Sword's demand, and when he told Dante and Vergil that there are other ways of settling their differences than fighting.
Devil May Cry 4[]
- He values the lives of other citizens and his lover Kyrie. Such as when he immediately evacuated them all out the building when Dante was seemingly a threat in the church due to him suddenly executing his holiness.
- He and Kyrie always look after and protect other little orphans together.
- He saved Kyrie and a little child from getting attacked or killed by a demon.
- He didn't want to hurt his adoptive brother Credo, trying to talk him down before anything happened and only fought him in self-defense.
- He screamed in anguish for Credo when Sanctus kills him and even tried to reach out and catch him while being immobilized by the Savior. To this day, he still carries the guilt of not being strong enough to protect Credo, despite it not even being his fault.
- He defeated Sanctus and finally saved Kyrie from him. Even after the former resorted into threatening her, he kept his composure the whole time and made sure to do the act carefully to ensure that he wouldn't fail rescuing her.
- He saved the world by stopping Sanctus and The Savior and let Dante sit out in doing so considering he had already done enough at the time.
- He loves Kyrie a lot, always protecting and being kind to her. He no longer hides his part-demon heritage from her like he did before and gave her the choice to leave him after finding out if she truly wanted to. Kyrie is the only person Nero always seems to be happy, comfortable and calm with.
Devil May Cry 5[]
- As revealed in Devil May Cry 5: Before the Nightmare:
- He and Kyrie took in orphans and agreed to make their Devil May Cry branch a mobile business thus allowing him to get more job outside Fortuna along with more money to support them all.
- He warms up to Nico as she joined his and Kyrie's Devil May Cry branch despite his initial misgivings towards her from being Agnus' daughter, which helped by the fact she puts her combined engineering skills and demonic expertise for a good cause unlike her late father.
- When he was about to have dinner with Kyrie and Nico, a stranger (which happened to be Vergil) appears, and he offers him to have dinner with him.
- He and Nico save a group of soldiers who faced a losing fight against Qliphoth Roots and Empusa horde as they begin fighting their way to reach Qliphoth.
- He saved Lady from Urizen and took her back to Nico’s van so that she can get some rest.
- He helped carry V when he was feeling weak and slowly dying, even asked him if he wanted to rest. Not to mention of saving the latter from Malphas.
- He stood up to Dante and Vergil from pointlessly fighting and stopped the two from killing each other. He even got them to make up, forgive and accept each other so that they no longer constantly fight.
- He was afraid of losing both Dante and Vergil since they left to the Underworld and he didn’t want to be left alone without them.
- He decided to continue defending the world from demons that attack after Dante and Vergil left to Underworld, doing what Dante wanted him to.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite not being anti-heroic, he still has traits of both Dante and Vergil. Such as the cockiness and brashness of Dante and the lust for power of Vergil, giving him similar flaws they have.
- He is very short tempered and gets angry easily, more so than even his uncle and dad. He’s shown to be violent, lethal and aggressive and frequently curses, and sometimes lashes out at others.
- He can be a little rude sometimes such as not paying attention to his church and just deciding to leave randomly because he gets bored.
