The Moonlight Boy, otherwise known as the Demon Child, is a supporting character in the Berserk franchise.

He is the ghost of the unborn son of Guts and Casca, but after Casca was raped by Femto/Griffith, he became corrupted by evil and was prematurely born as a cursed child after death. Later on, the child's spirit was fused with Femto's body when he was reincarnated into the physical world, and occasionally takes control of the body on the night of a full moon.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • Ever since his inception, he's constantly following Guts during his journey and staying by his side despite being rejected by his father.
  • He warns Guts about Casca being in danger. This gives Guts the chance to find and rescue Casca, saving her from being burned at the stake by Bishop Mozgus.
  • In Albion, the Demon Child protects his mother from the evil spirits threatening to possess her. Prior to the Incarnation Ceremony, he shields Casca from the corrosive blood of evil spirits and the flames of the transformed Bishop Mozgus, pushing himself to the point of exhaustion.
  • After having been fused with Femto as a vessel, the child's influence spurs Femto to save Casca from some falling rocks.
  • The Moonlight Boy takes control of Femto's body to search for his parents. Then, when a crocodile monster attempts to attack the members of Guts' party, he uses his powers to order the creature to leave.
  • When Guts is possessed by the Berserker Armor, the Moonlight Boy appears in his mind to dispel the armor's influence over Guts' mind, saving Guts from accidentally killing his companions.
  • During Guts' fight with the Sea God, as Guts' is overcome by the Berserker Armor's evil Od, the Moonlight boy appears again to disrupt the armor's control over Guts.
  • When Guts nearly dies while inside the darkness of the dying Sea God's body, the Moonlight Boy appears again and guides Guts to the heart of the monster so Guts can puncture the heart and create an opening to escape. This gives the merrow the chance to rescue Guts and save him from being drowned.
  • When the Moonlight boy appears in Elfheim, the Flower Storm Monarch notes that his Od is innocent and pure with no hint of malice, demonstrating his incorruptible nature.
  • Although one could argue that he has moral agency issues due to the fact that he serves as a vessel for Femto into the physical world, the Moonlight Boy is shown that, despite sharing his body with Griffith, is an entirely separate being with a conscience of his own, to the point that he sometimes influences Griffith to do things he doesn't want to.
  • The Moonlight Boy manages to stand out among the low admirable standard of the series and does not get corrupted by the extremely high heinous standard of the series. This is more remarkable considering that he was infected by evil, and despite the Skull Knight insisting that the boy is a cursed child which would bring woe upon Guts and Casca one day, he has never displayed any of the typical traits of evil spirits or Apostles or actively harmed either of his parents.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Due to his young age, lack of dialogue and characterization, his moral agency is questionable. Nevertheless, this is a minor prevention, since he shows intelligence much higher than regular children his age and consistently displays the desire to protect his parents.

Trivia[]

  • If he shows more characterization and gets dialogue in the future chapters of the manga, he may end up qualifying as Pure Good.
