~ Monica screaming Jimmy's name whenever he messes with her |
Monica Sousa is the titular main protagonist of the long running comic book franchise, Monica's Gang, and its spin-off, Moncia Teen, as well as multiple of its adaptations.
She is a girl from a Brazilian block called the Lemon Tree Neighbourhood, gifted with a mysterious super strength that she received from her first plush bunny ever, Hercubunny. She'd grow up and, because of her strength, considered "leader of the street", leading to many confrontations with the block's boys, who wanted the title, especially one called Jimmy Five. However, when situation called for it, Monica was a friend and supportive of the whole gang, even with those she come to odds with at times.
As a teen, she stopped brawling with the street's boys, and looked forward to a more peaceful lifestyle, though her characteristic hot-headedness is still present sometimes. Supernatural things still happen and she, as well as the gang, have come to find it normal, though the challenges as teenagers were much more dangerous, darker and with higher stakes than those of which when they were children.
In the cartoons, she was voiced by Marli Borboletto and formerly by Maria Amélia Costa Manso.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
Monica's Gang[]
- Since childhood, she abused her super strength very rarely and usually was kind to all children.
- She only fights and beats up the boys when they bully and provoke her, being happy when they don't.
- While she is sometimes paranoid, thinking Jimmy Five is planning something, it is understandable that, since he almost never leaves her alone.
- Beat up Lorilanda for manipulating her to fight Maggy.
- She stopped Captain Fray from polluting the world (to the point light strays would no longer be able to hit Earth's soil) many times.
- Despite beating them up frequently, she protects the boys from the block from bullies such as Big Tom whenever they want to beat them up for no reason.
- She helped Angel and Smudge prevent Jimmy Five from getting God-like powers that would consume and turn him into a depraved villain.
- She, Denise and Maggy defeated the Pitanga Tree Girls and stopped their bullying more than once.
- She also saved Vanilla, Maggy's cat, from being killed by Agnes once.
- While she herself tried to forcefully give Smudge a bath, she also helped him escape his enemies that want to do the same as she knows she has to protect her friend, and once even encouraged the block's boys to team up and save Smudge from Doctor O'Clean.
- She helped Maggy whenever she prevented Viviane the Witch from taking over the world.
- She helped defeat the Smoke-Stealer and stop his world dominating plan.
- She made a goodbye party for Luca when she thought he was going to move out
- She helped compete in a childish version of the Olympic Games so the Little Green Aliens wouldn't attack Earth.
- She helped Chuck'n Billy, Rose, Nick Nope, Frankly, Denise and Zeca defeat the Tombanian Aliens and preventing their hostile takeover on Earth.
- She stood up to Angel when a little Devil breathed fire all over him.
- She, and the whole rest of the gang hugged Angel when he was having a really hard time helping the kids because his hugging method didn't work to get anybody better.
- She stopped Count Nazarius from reuniting the Twelve Luck Rings and becoming the luckiest villain in the universe, a power he'd use to do many evil things.
- Stopped Glacial Uncle from taking over Christmas and defeating Santa Claus.
Monica Teen[]
- She stopped Yuka the Witch from taking over the world.
- She accepted the burden of her mother's duty of looking after Earth.
- As when she was a child, she'd defeat Captain Fray, now known as Black Dust, multiple times.
- Prevented Jimmy from becoming a villain by using the Laugh Note to become a God of the New World.
- She always supports her friends through their problems.
- When an anonymous user started posting many intimate and embarrassing photos of the gang, she was the only one not to find it funny, and set it up to find whoever it was and get them to stop.
- She comforted Maria after she suffered an accident and would no longer be able to pursue her model career, at least not for now.
- She helped stop Viviane from sucking all of the Gang's personality and characteristics in Marina's 15th birthday.
- She forgave Jimmy Five form cheating on her with Penha once she found out Penha was blackmailing him to do so.
- Stopped Agnes from continuing to lock up and torture innocent magical creatures.
- Despite initially not liking it, she accepted Sofia's redemption and was happy to have her as a friend.
- Even after all of the confusion of her breakup with both Jimmy and Nick Nope, she wants them all to be friends.
- She helped a little to defeat the Pale Horse of Death, also known as Berenice, the Flying Donkery.
- It took a long time for her to forgive Jimmy for what he did in Umbra, but it is understandable as he was selfish and it almost cost the gang's lives.
- Attempted to fight the White Horse of Decay, although she was then deformed and stayed useless until the end of the arc.
- She helped Future Sunny to prevent an alternate future, where Jimmy Five is corrupted and takes over the world with an iron fist.
- Fought her inner ID Monsters, preventing them from causing chaos across the city, as well as helping the whole gang deal with their own Monsters, and after controlling all of them, defeat Dr. Bikkuri, the most dangerous of them all.
- Fought Doctor Spam, preventing him from creating a dystopian future known as Spamia.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- While she managed to make it lesser in Monica Teen, she can still be too angry or wrathful in many situations, though she stopped having berserker like situations.
- She can sometimes be a jerk to her friends, such as mocking Smudge or messing with Jimmy Five just to spite him.
- She has some arrogant scenes where she brags about herself.
Trivia[]
- Before the release of Monica Teen in 2008, Monica couldn't be considered Near Pure Good, as she had too many anger issues, constantly beat down her friends, and even whenever she got character development, it could be retconned by another writer. It wasn't until Monica Teen set a definite storyline and character development for her, set years after the loose continuity kid comic series that is up until today, that she could be considered NPG.
- However, considering how the comics became more and more delicate with subjects such as beating up your friends, as well as other "politically incorrect" antics of the gang, she could maybe qualify as NPG even without Moncia Teen, as even in the mainstream comics she is much lighter nowadays.
