Misty is a major character in the Pokémon anime, serving as the deuteragonist of the first five seasons.
She is the youngest of four sisters who run the Cerulean Gym and wishes to become a trainer of Water Pokémon. When her bicycle is accidentally destroyed by Pikachu, Misty uses this as an excuse to follow Ash on his adventures, when she actually has feelings for him (even though she denies it).
She was voiced by Mayumi Iizuka in Japanese, the late Rachael Lillis (Seasons 1-8), and Michele Knotz (Seasons 9-present) in the English dub.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- She helps Ash get Pikachu help even though she doesn't like him at first, scolding him for neglecting Pikachu's safety.
- She helps fight off Team Rocket when they attack the Pokémon Center, standing her ground and holding them off even though her Pokémon are rather weak.
- While she can be bad-tempered towards him, she does love Ash and will put her life at risk to protect him.
- She calls Ash out for his arrogance and poor battling strategy when he first tries to catch a Pokémon.
- She cares about Pokémon a lot and will do anything to protect them from harm and prevent environmental damage to their habitats.
- She works hard to train Water-type Pokémon to prove her worth as a trainer.
- She has helped defeat Team Rocket's plans many times, saving many Pokémon from being stolen by them.
- She often stands up to bullies and defends Ash and her friends from them.
- She often acts as Ash's coach during Pokémon battles, helping him win many of them.
- She stops Brock from harassing other girls whenever he tries to do so which happens quite a lot.
- She comes up with the plan to escape from the sunken St. Anne, saving her friends and Team Rocket.
- She saves a city being attacked by a Tentacruel, putting herself at risk to talk the Tentacruel down, showing she's extremely brave.
- She agrees to tell James about his parents' supposed deaths, and later shows sympathy for him when Jessiebelle treats him badly, despite being enemies and all the troubles James has caused them.
- She loves Togepi as though she were its mother, learning to become a nicer person as a result and saving Togepi many times.
- She stops several large-scale plots by Butch and Cassidy to steal large numbers of Pokémon, such as exposing their breeding center scam.
- She helps save the world from Mewtwo's rampage.
- She helps save a Lugia and its baby from being experimented on by Team Rocket.
- In "Forest Grumps" she shares her food with James and Meowth when they're stranded together, despite normally being enemies.
- She helps fight the Iron-Masked Marauder and frees Celebi from its corruption.
- She helps defeat Annie and Oakley and save the city of Alto Mare from destruction.
- She overcomes her fear of Gyarados by catching one, and later defends it from being hurt, even taking three Poison Stings in order to save it.
- She saves the Mirage Kingdom from Colonel Hansen, rescuing Togepi when he kidnaps it, and uses her Gyarados to take out Shedinja despite her fear of bug Pokémon, showing that she'll do anything to protect Togepi.
- She releases Togetic so that it can protect the Mirage Kingdom, emotionally hugging Togetic and saying she loves it.
- She helps defeat the plans of Dr. Yung in "The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon."
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She's frequently arrogant and immature, berating and insulting others for bad reasons and in bad ways. She can also be narcissistic, calling herself "the world's most beautiful girl" in the original Japanese (which the dub eventually picked up). While this is more prevalent early on and she becomes a nicer person, it's still consistent enough that it's corrupting. A more recent example of this is when she said that she only gave Ash a gym badge out of pity when in reality, Misty wasn't even the one who gave Ash the badge and was only saying this to cover up her ego.
- She often shows jealousy toward other girls for liking Ash, even though she herself is reluctant to admit she has feelings for him.
- She admits that she chooses some Pokémon based on their looks and doesn't like "ugly" Pokémon, though she does try to overcome this, so it's a minor prevention.
