| “ | Hey, Abby, listen to me. I’ve been an idiot about so many things, I’ve been stuck trying to fix the past, but you are the most important thing in the world to me and I promise you I’m gonna do better. | „ |
| ~ Mike to his sister Abby, promising that he'll do his best to be a better brother to her. |
Michael "Mike" Schmidt is the main protagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's film series, based on the video game franchise of the same name.
He is the newest security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place and the older brother of Abby Schmidt. Filled with guilt over being unable to save his brother Garrett from a kidnapper, Mike seeks to find out who took his brother from him while protecting Abby from suffering the same fate.
He is portrayed by Josh Hutcherson.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
Five Nights At Freddy's[]
- When his younger brother, Garrett, was kidnapped by William Afton, he attempted to give chase in an attempt to rescue him, but fails.
- Following Garrett's kidnapping and being racked with constant guilt, he researched dream theory as a way to figure out who his kidnapper was to avenge him. When he started seeing the Missing Children in his dreams, he constantly tried getting them to help him.
- He tried his best to provide for his younger sister, despite losing multiple jobs, so she wouldn't be taken by their cruel aunt Jane.
- When he thought he saw a child abduction in progress he instantly gave chase, though it turned out to be a misunderstanding.
- While he did publicly assault an innocent man in front of his son, which resulted in him being fired from his security job, it was somewhat understandable as he only did so believing the man was a kidnapper, due to his severe PTSD of losing Garrett and not wanting history to repeat itself. Plus, when he realized it was all a misunderstanding, he showed remorse.
- He decided to take a job offer at Freddy's from Steve Raglan, knowing it was the only way to get cash to keep custody of Abby, despite previously refusing and unaware that Raglan was actually William Afton in disguise.
- When he hears Abby screaming, he immediately rushes to find her and tries to fight Freddy with a chair, though he backs off as it turns out that the animatronics are friendly to his sister and just tickling her. He even bonds with them later by building a fort. Even after this, he still keeps his guard around them, so they won't harm her.
- Upon realizing the children in his dreams are haunting the animatronics from Freddy's, he tries to help and befriend them, while also hoping they know what happened to Garrett.
- After Abby is shocked by Bonnie's guitar, he instantly runs to her aid and, after being warned by Vanessa that she will shoot him if he brought his sister to Freddy's again, he decides to let Abby stay at home instead for her own safety.
- Since there is no one else to look after Abby as his sister can no longer accompany him at work anymore, he ultimately decides to have Jane look over Abby while he works at Freddy's, despite his aunt's cruelty and both him and Abby being visibly unhappy with the situation.
- After being offered to have a dream of a perfect and complete family every night by Golden Freddy, despite initially accepting it, he decides to reject the offer for Abby and tries to fight back to the animatronics when they begin attacking him.
- After discovering William Afton has brainwashed the animatronics into trying to kill Abby so she'll join them, he immediately rushes back to Freddy's to save his sister, who was lured back to the pizzeria by Golden Freddy after he killed Jane (although she deserved it).
- He sneaks in through the vents to the pizzeria and incapacitates Freddy and Bonnie by electrifying them.
- He saves Abby from being put into an Ella springlock suit by Chica to prevent his sister from being killed and becoming another possessed animatronic.
- When he's attacked by Mr. Cupcake, he tells Abby to run and stays behind to fight the animatronic, eventually disabling him with his taser.
- Upon encountering William Afton, he tries to shock him and attempts to fight back despite being heavily outmatched.
- He and Abby carry the injured and unconscious Vanessa out of the collapsing restaurant after she is fatally stabbed by her father for trying to stop him from killing both Mike and Abby.
- After returning to his normal life, he continues to take care of Abby and constantly visits the comatose Vanessa in the hospital out of gratitude for helping them.
- Doesn’t hold any ill will towards the animatronics despite the murders that they committed, understanding they’re just unfortunate and innocent children who were murdered and used as pawns by Afton.
Five Nights At Freddy's 2[]
- It's revealed that Mike has continued to support Abby and tries to give her a normal life, such encouraging her to make friends at school and even offering to attend the science fair with her.
- Although he lies to Abby, promising to "fix" her friends (the animatronics), it is only because he doesn't want to endanger her.
- After he discovers that Abby snuck out in the middle of the night and returned to Freddy's, he doesn't get upset at her. Instead, he gives her the Faztalker and cheers her up before driving her back home.
- Upon discovering a flier stapled to the front doors of the establishment with the message "Freddy's a Murder" written on it, Mike calls the attached number and begins to investigate.
- He meets with Henry Emily, the father of Charlotte Emily (one of Afton's victims), in search for answers and learns that Afton killed more children than Vanessa initially told him.
- When Abby goes missing, Mike enlists Vanessa's help to find her. He also chooses to stay behind at the first establishment so he can shut down the animatronics remotely, before they can harm innocent people.
- After the Marionette reawakens the animatronics, Mike goes to the establishment from the first film, and pleads with the children's souls to help fend off the Toy Animatronics.
- He uses Henry's music box to free Abby from Charlotte's possession.
- Thanks to his choice to trust Abby's "friends", the Toy Animatronics are defeated with the help of the original animatronics.
- This also indirectly leads to the children's souls finally being freed and allows them to move on to the afterlife, since they were no long within the perimeter of Fazbear's, causing the animatronics to shut down.
- While he coldly dismisses Vanessa and tells her to stay away from him and Abby, it is understandable, considering the amount of danger she put both of them in by keeping secrets from Mike.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He has a few jerkish moments. In the first film, he rudely snatched pills from the pharmacy employee who was trying to give him advice. In the second film, he hung up on the school guidance counselor mid-sentence (although this was understandable since Mike was stressed looking for Abby). He also indirectly trivializes Vanessa's trauma by claiming he wants to "fix" her.
Trivia[]
- He is technically the second version of Michael to be Near Pure Good after his original game counterpart.
- Though he is currently a Near Pure Good, this could potentially change in the upcoming third film.
