Michael Afton, also known as Eggs Benedict and Mike Schmidt, is the main protagonist of the ScottGames era of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.
He serves as the main protagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's, Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location and Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, and the protagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's 4 (and the main antagonist of the minigames). He's also speculated to have appeared in other entries.
He is the son of the notorious serial killer William Afton and the older brother of Elizabeth Afton and the Crying Child. Starting out as a cruel bully, after accidentally killing his brother, he decided to atone for his mistakes by becoming a technician at Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental so he could save his sister's soul. After discovering the horrible truth about his father and being reduced to a living corpse by Elizabeth, he goes on a quest to "find" his father, eventually culminating in him working under Henry Emily, Afton's former business partner, while seemingly remaining unaware of his true plans.
It's also theorized that he took the identity of Fritz Smith and the unnamed Fazbear's Fright nightguard during the search for his father, and is also heavily implied to be the protagonist of every Fnaf game barring Fnaf 4.
He is voiced by PJ Heywood.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While he was a sadistic bully who got his brother killed as part of a prank gone wrong, it wasn't his intention to hurt him and he was immediately wracked with guilt for what he had done, apologizing to him as he died. Following this, Michael has a change of heart and, as the series goes on to show, he actively strived to be a better person.
- He went to Circus Baby's Entertainment & Rental to free the spirit of his dead sister Elizabeth, resulting in him being "killed", used as a skinsuit and then resurrected as a zombie.
- The tone and wording of his monologue at the end of Sister Location heavily implies he wanted to stop his father William from continuing to murder more children.
- He helped Henry Emily collect the four animatronics he needed to set Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place on fire and free the spirits of the children trapped.
- While not confirmed, it's mildly implied Mike was suspicious of Henry's plan and thus possibly aware of what he was truly hired for.
- He decided he should stay in the pizzeria and be incinerated along with his father, sister and the other animatronics, peacefully dying alongside them.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He ultimately suffers from Fridge Brilliance as it's explicitly said in the Insanity Ending that Henry didn't tell him what his true goals were, and thus he was unaware of what he was doing. While it is implied he figured it out by himself, it's not 100% confirmed. Additionally, while he would find out in the true ending when Henry outright tells it to him, we don't see his reaction. Any other admirable acts, such as trying to free the spirits or helping in Happiest Day, are likewise unconfirmed and pure speculation.

- Michael, a Near Pure Good hero, is the brother of Elizabeth and son of William, who are Near Pure Evil and Pure Evil respectively.
- What even more ironic is that both him and William was voiced by same voice actor, PJ Heywood.
- It's speculated by fans he is the Fazbear's Fright Nightguard who helped set the souls free. If this would be confirmed, he would no longer be outright due to knowingly doing an admirable act and might become Pure Good.
- His counterpart from the Fazbear Frights books doesn't qualify due to being bog-standard.
