~ Meta Knight in Kirby Star Allies, in one of his "dramatic" lines. |
Meta Knight is the tritagonist of the Kirby video game franchise. He is a mysterious and powerful warrior who originally debuted as one of Kirby's foes and was even shown to be interested in ruling over Dream Land, but soon became a heroic figure and a recurring presence in the cast of characters, becoming Kirby's friendly rival. His role in the games is known to be unpredictable due to him often being hidden up until a certain point and is usually a surprise in each game.
He's known for his similarities with Kirby and his friendly rivalry with him, wanting to prove himself better than Kirby, his dominance over the Meta Knights, his own group of warriors, and his serious and focused personality.
He is voiced by Eric Newsome in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and by Atsushi Kisaichi in the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Even when he fights Kirby, he's always honorable by offering him a sword before the duel begins.
- The only exception of this was in Kirby and the Squeak Squad when he fought Kirby over the chest. However, it contained Dark Nebula's power, so it's understandable why he didn't give Kirby a sword in this instance, as he was trying to win in order to prevent the curse from being unleashed.
- He helped King Dedede protect Dream Land from Nightmare by destroying the Star Rod, to prevent him from corrupting the Fountain of Dreams.
- Rather than following King Dedede’s orders to stop Kirby, Meta Knight either assisted Kirby by handing him invincibility candy items or hindered his progress by sending his minions against the pink puffball, perhaps to help him prepare against Nightmare, knowing Kirby’s single-minded determination is bound to lead to such.
- While he was an anti hero early on he subverted it as the series went on.
- Helped Magolor rebuilt his ship, before knowing of his plan.
- He helped Kirby, Bandana Waddle Dee and King Dedede defeat Magolor, who was tricking them into giving him the Master Crown.
- He helps Kirby in defeating Yin-Yarn by giving him and Prince Fluff a Tankbot Metamortex.
- He protected Dream Land against Haltmann Works with his ship when they first attacked the planet, albeit unsuccessfully.
- He assists Kirby by giving him his ship in Planet Robobot so he can merge it with his armor and defeat Star Dream.
- After Kirby destroys Star Dream, Meta Knight aids Kirby back to safety in Planet Popstar.
- While he did steal a treasure chest that Kirby thought contained his slice of strawberry shortcake, it was to prevent the entity known as Dark Nebula, who was trapped within the box, from escaping.
- As soon as the mirror appeared in the sky, Meta Knight went to see what it was, and fought his evil version, Dark Meta Knight. He later helps Kirby defeat him and Dark Mind.
- He was also one of the many allies who helped Kirby defeat Hyness and his cult, as well as stopping Void Termina, the destructive entity unleashed by them.
- Protected Waddle Dee Town to prevent the Beast Pack from kidnapping the Waddle Dees again while Kirby was adventuring.
- Even though he still fights Kirby in several recent games (including Kirby Fighters 2), it’s either because he wants to train Kirby to become stronger, in the spirit of competition, or being possessed by a villain in another case. In spite of their duels, both of them are on good terms and Meta Knight grew to become Kirby’s mentor and one of his most trusted allies, if not friend.
- Despite looking and acting serious much more than other characters, he rarely if ever darkens the mood.
- He passes the admirable standards, due to having unique heroic actions of his own, such as protecting Waddle Dee Town from the Beast Pack, and going to the Mirror World to protect Dream Land before Kirby arrived.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- In the "Revenge of Meta Knight" sub-game of Kirby Super Star, he plotted to take over Dream Land simply because he didn’t want the inhabitants to be lazy. He even went as far as trying to stop Kirby from escaping the collapsing Halberd for thwarting his plans.
- Even if Meta Knight did genuinely redeem himself (which is obviously true), it still prevents him from being Pure Good as he does not show enough remorse for trying to take over Dream Land for such a small reason.
Trivia[]
- He is one of several Near Pure Good heroes who also has Villainous Benchmark page, others include Scorpion from Mortal Kombat Legends, Bucky Barnes from MCU, Starlight Glimmer, Megamind, Piccolo, Kyoko Sakura, and Ereshkigal from Fate/Grand Order.
