~ Merryweather changing the color of Aurora's dress |
“ | Sweet princess, if through this wicked witch's trick, a spindle should your finger prick... a ray of hope there still may be in this, the gift I give to thee. Not in death, but just in sleep, the fateful prophecy you'll keep. And from this slumber you shall wake, when true love's kiss, the spell shall break. | „ |
~ Merryweather's famous counter-spell to Maleficent's curse. |
Mistress Merryweather (also known as Aunt Merryweather or just Merryweather for short) is one of the three main characters of Disney's 16th full-length animated feature film, Sleeping Beauty, alongside Flora and Fauna.

In the final cut of the original animated film, she was voiced by the late Barbara Luddy, with the late Colleen Collins doing her voice in the demo recording of the deleted song, “Riddle Diddle”. As of 2002, she has been voiced by Tress MacNeille.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- They are peaceful and always tries to spread goodwill, as shown when they accepting King Stefan and Queen Leah’s invitation of attending to Aurora's Christening at their castle, where they give their daughter good blessings in her christening.
- She is responsible for saving Aurora by using her interrupted gift to change the consequence of Maleficent's curse, which would make the princess fall asleep rather than killing her, which gave hope to Stefan, Leah, and the other royal subjects.
- Merryweather, alongside Flora and Fauna, took care of Aurora for 16 years as "Briar Rose", in the forest, so that she wouldn't fall asleep as the curse intended, after learning that Stefan’s decision of burning spinning wheels is not enough to stop the curse.
- She told Flora and Fauna that it’s best to use magic after they fail to make a good cake and dress, upon realizing what Rose’s reaction would be if she sees the mess.
- They tried to make a good birthday party for Aurora in her sixteenth birthday, before she gets to know who she is.
- She and her sisters begin to feel sorry for themselves about their failure to stop Maleficent and save Aurora, and this causes her and the other two fairies to place a sleeping spell on everyone in the castle.
- Thanks to King Hubert’s sleepy and brief conversation with King Stefan, she and Fauna learned from Flora that the same man Aurora had met in the woods was actually Hubert’s son, Prince Phillip.
- They saved Philip after he was locked up in a dungeon by Maleficent.
- She turned Diablo into a stone in order to prevent him from warning Maleficent and because of her, it allows herself, her two sisters, and Phillip to escape from the Forbidden Mountain. During the battle, she and her sisters enchant the Prince's sword as to deal a killing blow to Maleficent, ending her and her reign of terror, as well as allowing Philip to wake up Aurora, their respective parents, and everyone else in the castle.
- In Disney Princess Enchanted Tales Follow Your Dreams, she still helps out Aurora with anything she needs.
- She hands Aurora her wand and warns her to be careful and specific of using it.
- She went with Flora and Fauna to deliver the speech King Hubert forgot for the royal meeting.
- She attends Aurora's banquet, along with Flora, Fauna, Prince Phillip, King Stefan, King Hubert, Queen Leah and Lord Duke.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- Like Flora, Merryweather can also be prone to being somewhat impulsive and selfish that causes most of the drama during the film, as shown when her color duel with Flora over Aurora's gown for petty reasons inadvertently caused Diablo to discover their location to Maleficent, who temporarily succeeded in tricking Aurora into pricking her finger on the spinning wheel, as a result of Flora's reckless decision to leave Aurora alone.
- Even though she felt remorseful of their mistake of leaving Aurora alone, it still prevents her from being Pure Good, due to her still being selfish and impulsive at times, as stated above.
Trivia[]
- While Fauna was approved, Merryweather and Flora were originally rejected from NPG for being deemed too jerkish; upon further discussion, however, it was decided that it was not quite true, making her and Flora NPG.
- She is the only Near Pure Good character of Sleeping Beauty to have more than one counterpart as Near Pure Good, as Flittle, her version from the Maleficent films, is also considered Near Pure Good as well.
