Merlin is the overarching protagonist of the Tales of Arcadia franchise, serving as the overarching protagonist of Trollhunters, a minor character in 3Below, the chief protagonist of Wizards, and a posthumous protagonist in the film finale Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. He is a wizard who created the Trollhunter amulet and imprisoned Morgana centuries ago who is awakened by Team Trollhunters to help them stop Gunmar and Morgana for good.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Mentored and trained King Arthur to take his rightful place as king.
- Saved several magical creatures like Douxie from Arthur's genocide.
- Although he served under King Arthur, he never supported Arthur’s genocide against magical creatures and saved many of them. Instead, he served as a good influence of Arthur, helping him let go of his prejudice towards magical creatures.
- Trained Douxie and Morgana to become powerful sorcerers.
- Stopped the Guardians of Arcadia from (mostly) altering history.
- Stopped Morgana from killing Arthur.
- Although Morgana tried to kill him and Arthur, he was incredibly saddened by her (supposed) death.
- Supported Arthur and helped influence him to ally with good trolls to stop Gunmar and abandon his prejudice.
- Created the Trollhunter amulet to protect good trolls and unite humanity and trolls. This makes him indirectly responsible for all the Trollhunters actions.
- Imprisoned Morgana for 900 years in the Heartstone to prevent her from destroying humanity.
- Accepted and protected Nari for centuries from the Arcane Order, preventing the universe from being destroyed.

- Even though he is taken very seriously and lacks comedic moments, he is still taken lightly.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He was a jerk especially towards Blinky and Toby in Trollhunters. In Wizards however, he loses most of his jerkish traits and his more positive relationships with Douxie and King Arthur are emphasized although he still has some jerkish traits left.
- He was pretty arrogant, telling Douxie that wizards never make mistakes. However, at the end of his life, he admits he made many mistakes and apologizing for them.
- He has a lethal moment as he wanted to kill Morgana out of revenge since she stole his magic and was glad Gunmar released her so he could kill her. However, he does seem to reconcile with Morgana in Wizards although he never admits he was wrong in that instance or apologizes.
